We are heading to where people in higher socio-economic groups are living into there 90's. Down sizing is not an option. Ot was commented on earlier on this thread that living upstairs has its challenges as you get older. A stairs lift I'd suitable when bed rooms are upstairs when the living area is upstairs you are looking at a lift.

Pretty sure a high up velux would mean it cannot count as a bedroom. Needs to be a second point of exit from the room with regs on heights etc.

PPut it.Into the plans as a home office, leave the office downstairs as a bed room switch afterwsrds

I know this week's house very well. My wife's grandparents were the previous owners. Looks like the owners kept the living room and kitchen furniture. Bit emotional watching it

it seems strange to me they could sell the house and just buy a 4 bedroom house with 2bathrooms in another part of dublin house value 400k, and they have 300k =700k

i understand they like the area and they have young kids at school

they said the room is too cold no point fixing the shower

they,d buy a nice big house for 500k and build an extension if they need more room

Thought that strange as well. 5 years going downstairs to shower with all the disruption to the office.

isn't it kind of mad when you think about it, a full refurb/extension costing €325K and that's hoping it comes in on budget. My God that would have bought an entire house a few years ago. I bought my house in Kerry 2 years ago for €250K and spent about €35K putting my stamp on it, insulation, redecoration and new ensuite.

Crazy money for this couple, hope its worth it , they're a lovely couple.

Did th e builder just say that they were thinking about underfloor heating?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 987 ✭✭✭mykrodot

OMG an old Tayto packet costing 4p!!! How long is that there, decades I'd say, that's an heirloom!

I wouldn’t spend any money on a house I knew I was planning on completely renovating.

how the hell was this priced. if underfloor heating wasnt decided opon. now it a cavity block, that would be obvious from day one.

I'd say there's some mad collections of stuff they find under floor boards that wouldn't be material that could be shown on TV 😉.

I see your point but it's a shower. Its not like changing tiles or carpets. A lot of inconvenience over that time.

The word that come to mind is " overstretched"

Seems that they don't know how Dermot works with a budget.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 987 ✭✭✭mykrodot

seems like they haven't really thought the "open plan" concept through , or the sink, or the cooking smells in the kitchen. There are solutions to everything but they cost and these two are very stretched already !!

i think its going to be strange for them to have open plan rooms going from a house thats so cluttered

I wonder what the square hole in the sitting room floor is for. Would it be an access for sewers or something?

    A dartboard 👍

Wow. What a kitchen. Dermot eventually gets his beams.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,864 ✭✭✭CH3OH

He eventually got his exposed ceiling joists

    In the next house!

Yep that's where the manhole cover used to be in the back garden if I recall correctly.

House looks nice inside now, particularly the living area at the back but I really don't like the exterior at the front or the exterior of the extension.

What gets me is how the dad was moaning about the clutter and no room for the gymnastics gear or small goal and he then sticks a pool table into the room 🤷

How you can get eco grants and then have a wood burning stove in an urban area is beyond me.

as always. went from first fix stage to finished house in the blink of an eye. all the talk about toilets, did we see what they went with at all

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,527 ✭✭✭Westernview

Very nice result both inside and out. This series is already shaping up nicely. Likeable clients and successful designs without anything being too extravagant.

beautiful home for them, well deserved, a lovely couple. I really like the interior colours, especially the greens. I've used green a lot in my downstairs rooms, its calming and relaxing and brings the outside in. For me the cost would be very stressful on top of their mortgage but that's the Ireland we're living in.
