I'd imagine it'll go via College Street and Nassau Street, similar to the 11. The denizens of Wadelai would likely explode at the mere idea of a slightly different routing.

Sorry, I just find it funny that we had some discussion around how hard it is to get bus drivers and that's impacting the very slow rollout of BusConnects, and now the NTA are changing one route and promising extra bus drivers to support it.

The F spine routes will be pushed out to 2026 at this rate. (this isn't a serious post (mostly))

No, it'll keep the existing route from Sandyford as far as O'Connell Street, then will take over the 46a routing to Phoenix Park (Infirmary Road).

Oh, I'm getting info from multiple sources (including ChatGPT) that is being removed completely

What about the 11B? What buses are gonna be allocated on it? I'd say GT's at this stage. The 142 had AX's and all before half of them got withdrawn in 2024 leaving only like 18 in service.

It is . But not yet . Will remain until the sandyford changes come in .

Those changes are apparently in the final phase which, at the current roll-out rate, means they probably won’t happen until at least 2030 - even though they won’t involve any increase in service frequency so the “We don’t have the drivers to do this sooner” excuse lacks credibility.

As is usual the first place you hear it is here. NTA cannot communicate to save its life. 16 days notice

The BC page has at LAST been updated to mention the date

    https://www.transportforireland.ie/getting-around/by-bus/phase-6a-e-spine/

The schedules of some of them are there but they do not include the 4,11,or 13 schedules so good luck if you want to find out when your bus is instead of the 46a

Two weeks notice of the detailed timetables is probably as much as anyone needs I would think, let’s be honest. Any more than that and people probably dwell on it too much.

As to getting the date out, knowing the history of how things happen in transport in this country, these things can be decided right up to the wire. I’d imagine that this is no different and was dependent on staffing being confirmed.

One would hope that the two bus companies will get their own pages for the phase up and running with links to timetables later today.

As an aside, I do sometimes wonder how people nowadays would have coped back in the day prior to the internet, when the only notifications of bus timetable changes (even major ones involving route changes!) were small advertisements placed by CIÉ/Dublin Bus in the Evening Press and Evening Herald on the Friday and Saturday before the Sunday that the timetable changed, and which then required a trip into 59 Upper O’Connell Street to get the new timetable.

Looking at the new booklet for phase 6a,

    https://www.transportforireland.ie/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Phase-6-E-Spine.pdf

I see that there is a second routing change, with the E2 now going to operate to/from Harristown, instead of terminating at IKEA.

I assume that this as a result of people working in Horizon Business Park who used the 4 or 13 making their views known.

That extension would have required a decent of amount of detailed work to sort out from a scheduling perspective, but it will mean that drivers will not have to use staff cars or empty buses to transfer to/from the depot.

Wasn’t there talk of extra buses for the 19 starting at Wadelai in the morning? This seems to be not the case anymore.

I mentioned before that it wouldn't be great for people working in the Horizon Logistics Park or Harristown to go from the 4, 13, 27B and 83 to no buses at all after Bus Connects is implemented fully.

You could walk from the new 19 (and presumably 24 and N8) stop by Ballymun Kickhams but it's not exactly short.

The 24 was originally supposed to go through Horizon Logistics Park via the currently blocked off entrance at the start of runway 10R. However they must not have reached an agreement to open that entrance.

Any guesses for the F start date? presumably it'll be many months considering they don't have the drivers to complete the 19 route to Merrion Square. More importantly the works needed to support the O haven't been tendered yet, quite concerning for 46a users on the northside, considering we have no commitment to a similar frequency route.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,035 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

No that should remain the case - that was a key local concern.

The core frequency is every 20 mins, but during the morning and evening peaks there were to be additional buses operating to/from Wadelai every 20 mins to deliver a 10 minute frequency between there and the city.

I suspect that they're likely to be the departures extended to Merrion Square.

Interesting that it is phased. That also allows Dublin Bus to guage demand for the extension to Merrion Square. That will justify the changes if usage is significant. However, sometimes you get huge outrage for the withdrawal of a service that nobody ever uses.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,277 ✭✭✭Daith

They're not withdrawing this service. Not a chance.

Wadelai starting to feel like the Vatican or something. There are huge swathes of nearby areas in Ballymun and Finglas that people would have to walk a bit to get the bus, yet they're getting buses starting in their area with a great frequency.

I'll definitely be using the 19 from Pearse station if it matches up well with the Dart schedules, and I would imagine a lot of people would find the extension handy too.

If you go back to the original consultations on Bus Connects, they were clear that there would be tweaks here and there as it rolled out, as demand for particular routes became clear, and that decisions could be changed.

All I am saying is that this change is an ideal way to look at it. Once the demand at peak time is assessed for a particular option, a final decision is easier.

I see the webpage itself has yet to be updated to reflect this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,035 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

It does say Harristown for the E2 in the route table on the webpage?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,592 ✭✭✭p_haugh

Nevermind it does show for me now. I think an old version of the webpage was cached for me, as it wasn't there as of 10 minutes ago. I see they also removed the new route maps from the webpage itself, so they are only in the booklet pdf now

I suspect it’ll be updated as the day goes on…..

I think there needs to be an acknowledgement that there are circumstances that connections aren't the answer.

In the D spine, the 68 Newcastle to the city centre is being replaced by the L56 which only goes to the red cow. May well actually be a better service inbound but because the L56 is only hourly, it will be an almost unusable service outbound.

A simple Luas delay and all of a sudden you have a full hour of standing at the red cow waiting for the next L56. The concept of connections depends on high frequency. If a service can't be run on at least 20 mins frequency, it should be left as a direct service.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,059 ✭✭✭thomasj

Had me wondering would it be better to send it to Saggart Luas. Shorter distance for trip would mean more use of resources and greater frequency. Or just increase the W6 to every 15-20 minutes at peak.

RE E Spine. I know some local residents will be happy to see the E2 extended to Harristown and serving Horizon Business Park . It may be a bit of a walk for those in Northwood who were using the 4 or 13 to get there, but it will be an improvement.

From what I've been told the NTA plan to use the Ballymun entrance to Northwood for the E1 in both directions. I hope it won't mean delays at peak hours as it departs from the Northwood Terminus. It will have to do a U-Turn at a roundabout and then head back towards the entrance. NTA should monitor this and if there are issues it should look again at exiting Northwood using the Santry Avenue entrance. Northwood Management may not agree to this as the Santry Avenue gate is closed from 1am-6am, possibly to assert their ownership of the road network.

Saggart Luas frequency is shocking though, it’s not a service I’d be relying on.

Can anyone advise how following the changes, one can go directly from Ballymun Road (DCU) to Northumberland Road (Aviva) ? Currently via 4 route.
