Tesla had their best ever quarter in terms of deliveries and that was achieved with people holding off ordering Model Y awaiting release of revised Mod Y in early 2025 I am not sure I agree with the "downward trend" label .

I can’t see where they can decrease prices again. They are No. 1 and No. 3 best selling EV in Ireland in 2024. They don’t need to. Model Y best selling car in the world for 2 years running again.

I don’t think they will. And I don’t think a small cheaper car will come out either.

They are on a brilliant roll, no doubt about it.

Juniper sales will push MY up to #2 by the end of this year.

Tesla doesn't need another car in the lineup - they have the best selling family saloon and the best selling SUV already - keep those two rolling forward with tweaks and feature evolution OTA and you have a winning formula for years into the future.

Bring back stalks, a HUD and I’d be sold.
I dont mind the central screen. The HUD would be useful.

Stalks can be had for less than €300 now

Agh I know. It’s trying to sell that to Joe soap. I keep relating it back to my parents. My mam loves the MY. But if I was trying to explain to her that we have to order stalks separate 😂

Maybe I’d just ordered them and don’t tell her! Stick them in on delivery day!

It is becoming increasingly obvious that the Cybertruck was a poor choice for use of the precious time the Development team had available to them. It just isn't selling in the volumes they need. S, X, Semi and Cybertruck are doing little for the company.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,650 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

The S and X generate a lot higher profit margin and are halo cars. Marketing from the Plaid and from the Cybertruck merch and social media coverage is probably generating more purchases of 3 and Y than anything. It's not black and white.

I agree, the cybertruck is looking a bad play, in hindsight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,830 ✭✭✭CMOTDibbler

The biggest problem with the Cybertruck (apart from the looks - imo 🤣) was the decision to make it from one of the most unworkable metals around. This made it extremely costly which put it outside the reach of a lot of potential buyers.

And then all the ensuing problems with production, quality/safety issues and a design that makes it very hard to sell into Europe without significant changes.

The Cybertruck will be Tesla's Ford Edsel or AMC Pacer.

    This ^^
I might add USS too just to make it a great offering.

Seems like a no brainer even if it adds 1 or 2k to the base price it would still be the market leader.

The lack of stalks alone must be excluding a huge market of potential buyers me included!

I haven’t but do plan to take one for a test drive.

    Have you?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,858 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

I have, you get used to them quickly but that's during a routine test when you are focusing on them. Natural reactions still have you reaching with your hand to swipe them. If I bought one, I'd buy the aftermarket stalk kit!

Good thing I am a real inconsiderate driver and barely used my indicators otherwise I would be worried about the change…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 848 ✭✭✭technocrat

Yeah I have seen some vids on the ‘S3XY stalks’ and they look like a feasible option albeit not as good as OEM.

I still think it’s a stupid move from Tesla and Musk been so pig headed is unlikely to re-instate stalks at some future date!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 848 ✭✭✭technocrat

    Fair enough.

Most of the online reviews I’ve watched highlight the stalks issue and lack of ACTUAL buttons for turn signals.

I’ll try out for myself in the next few weeks and report back here.

Stalkless is fine for day to day driving except for large roundabouts when you need to be keeping your eye on the road and not trying to figure out which button to press with your hands in motion, wheel in motion and wheel in varying directions.

It's also difficult in tight car parks (or the like) for the same reasons

Go ahead and do that, anything else is just second hand conjecture. In the meantime, welcome to the EV forum.

I felt the indy buttons were kinda cool and not an issue on a test drive - albeit as Gumbo notes, somewhat of an artificial experience. I like the fact that Tesla are regularly switching it up - regardless of the reasons. It wasn't long ago that traditional drivers were aghast at a new manufacturer that arrived with a wheel and a screen, but now it's becoming more mainstream. Likewise a no app/card/fob charging network, cabin pre-heating, seamless charge-based route planning, accurate live traffic updates, Netflix/browser/games/media in your car, sub-15kwh/100km efficiency, yoke steering, programmable OBD, usable frunk, all-glass roof, 32A mobile charging.

You know, the kind of stuff other manufacturers only offer for a premium, if they offer at all.

    I just can't afford one 😩

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,687 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

Tight car parks can have quick left and right turns in quick succession with the wheel in constant full swing so not straighforward to be indicating when looking at the road and high kerbs. I have this exact scenario in work and just dont indicate, full right turn, immediate full left turn, immediate full right turn onto public side road with immediate full left and then full right turn, it's impossible to figure out the indicators with the steering wheel in constant fast motion.

The forward and reverse dont bother me, I put left fingers on the top of the screen then use stable thumb to shift gear. I tried the auto shift once when I got the car and it got it wrong so I've never used it since

I wouldn’t be indicating in those scenarios anyway!

I didn't think removing indicator stalks would be a big issue in the Irish market given most drivers don't use them

    😁

Has Tesla removed ability to see consumption on preset distances (10km/25km/50km) or is there a trick to get old screen back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,050 ✭✭✭JOL1

If you are referring to the Tesla Energy App, which used to give predicted range based on the last 10k, 25km ,50km (you select) this option is no longer a feature. Was removed in updated version of Tesla software late last year (holiday update). Under Consumption tab you now get predicted range over one default (cant select between) for driving over last xkms

Interesting video showing the limitations of the Tesla ADAS system due to sole reliance on cameras. Unless the Cybercab incorporates radar/lidar, it'll never be a serious competitor to the likes of Waymo.

Keep forgetting my bloody keys with the new Tesla!!!😤

Not really missing the stalks either - liking the buttons, used to turn the lights on and off on my old Hyundai with stalks(the stalk also had the light switch on it ,to explain).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 10,517 ✭✭✭✭893bet

yeah having same issue, also never know where my keys are now

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,858 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

    1. Service can be obtained through the app. If an emergency and you break down, either call Tesla or your insurance company and get the car towed to either garage or home. Tesla Ireland - (01) 903 8770
    2. Yes. Amazon or Ali express. Handy for jacking the car up at home or if you get a puncture and are plugging it. They are not strictly require but they do make it idiot proof.
    3. I’ve personally never done it. Over 42k on current tyre's without rotation and last car had 41k without rotation before selling.
