It always seems to be GAI issues whenever these bus connects changes roll out. DB seem to have sorted out a lot of the issues with driver shortages have GAI?

I honestly don’t know the answer - it may be the rumour mill proving to be wrong hopefully!

Do you not think from reading the article from the Indo there is a mismatch in communication going on between the operators & the NTA in how they are progressing on getting the E Spine routes out in January or possibly March. One side discussing this phase of the project online (Dublin Bus drivers & management) are saying that everything is ready to go when OTOH Go Ahead's drivers are saying "No. wait a minute there lads; something is up with our side of things with how these new routes are going out to their passengers?

The frequency issues with this spine on the N11 is still going to be reduced if it goes out unchanged in late January or March. I don't want to give favourable arguments in favour of Dublin Bus here. They do appear to be committed to roll out these new routes anyway regardless of the expected reduction in frequency along that corridor. We can say with certainty that all of the issues about the N11 frequency and the changing the 11 to the 19 route is all on Dublin Bus's plate to sort out with the NTA at this time.

I cannot really understand what is keeping Go Ahead from rolling out these new routes to their passengers who live in North Wicklow and in Blackrock, Kilternan, Ballyogan & Dun Laoghaire. Are they having more issues with the planned population increases due to all to of the planned house building projects going on in North Wicklow from now and in the future?

I just seen this petition to save the 46a on Reddit.

I don't see what is the point of this petition is going to achieve for people who live along this route tbh.

People who live along the N11 corridor are going to be getting a 24 hour bus service when the E-Spine replaces the route in either January or March 2025. People living in houses around Stillorgan Shopping Centre can get the 11 bus to Phoenix Park from Kilmacud if they want to get on a bus to get to their workplace in the northside of Dublin or to go to Dublin Zoo in the near future.

Also the 46a the author of the petition doesn't realise that the 46a does not offer a 24 hour timetable to it's passengers. The E2 going from Dun Laoghaire Dart Station to IKEA in Ballymun is the route that replaces the 46a. The E2 route between Dun Laoghaire & Ballymun will provide a 24 hour timetable for it's passengers when it's rolled out in either January or March 2025.

She did make a good point about the 46a actually reducing carbon emissions from Public Transport. The E2 will offer a bigger reduction in carbon emissions once it provides the 24 hour timetable under the E-Spine. A lot of people going on nights outs or coming home from doing overnight work in Dublin City Centre will also save a huge amount of money by using the E2 bus between Dun Laoghaire & Ballymun with their leap card as opposed to paying for Taxis during the working week & on weekends.

What are the housing developments for North Wicklow?

the way it's phrased, they're making it sound like its being removed completely with no replacement 🤦‍♂️

I don't see the point in rolling out the E spine as it currently stands, there are too many issues with it. It should be delayed until they can be properly addressed. It should take much effort to extend the 19 a little further south. They could wait until the O is ready to resolve the 46a issue and then add an "E3" to boost frequency on the N11 even if it ends at parnell sq

This is usually standard fare from churnos chasing clicks - "10 bus services to be AXED in run up to traditional event day", followed by paragraphs of "I've been getting this bus since the nineteen dickedies!", with a few throwaway lines near the end about the replacement services.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,178 ✭✭✭trellheim

The E2 does NOT replace the 46a in toto -

Northbound it does nothing whatsoever for people going to the Phoenix Park/Zoo/Mater, Mountjoy prison and west of Phibsboro and in fact forces them into a change either to :

    a bus with a lesser frequency than the 46a - the 11

OR - to Hanlons corner end - the busiest route in Dublin, the 39a

Southbound forces people onto the 39a west of Phibsboro for the Donnybrook corridor to that side of UCD - and that 39a is rammed every service

That petition has been doing the rounds enthusiastically where I live.

I bet it wont launch (the E) until a government is formed and its all quietened down

Yeah, people might have to connect to a different service.

But there's a few options now in the city centre to get to those areas. Why wouldn't people switch to the red line to get to the Phoenix Park or there's multiple options to get to Phisboro or Mountjoy

But if people don't want to change services then nothing will be a good alternative

Interesting news about Dublin bus planned celebration of the 46A being pushed back from January to March.

could well mean the E spine being pushed back to March

This is getting ridiculous now. Just get on with it and implement the bloody thing!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,049 ✭✭✭thomasj

I wonder might they go ahead and launch the F spine first ? Wasn't that originally planned ahead of the E spine ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,755 ✭✭✭john boye

I heard the other day that the proposed amendments to the 19 are the delay now, as in the possible need for a greater number of drivers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,049 ✭✭✭thomasj

That's the extra drivers needed to send it Southside ?

Surely extending it the bare minimum to college green or Shaw street with a connection to the 11 wouldnt require much extra resources ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,259 ✭✭✭Daith

Depends how it impacts bus drivers times though.

Even if it is extended, you'll probably end up with a change of bus driver on Parnell St too (which might cause some of the passengers to fear for their lives apparently)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,755 ✭✭✭john boye

Yeah that's what I thought but I suppose even an extension to and from Merrion Square on every lap could impact roster requirements.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,259 ✭✭✭Daith

I mean if the 19 does get changed, then sure for the people wanting to keep the 46a, I'd say it's a good sign.

I wonder does it depend on what politicians are involved though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,049 ✭✭✭thomasj

yeah I was thinking Merrion Square might be a bit much. but if you could get a connection to the 11 on o'connell street, and d'olier street it would be across the road from the green line Luas and beside the 46A/E1/E2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,627 ✭✭✭mikeybhoy

What a load of nonsense it's the number on the front of the bus

The main complaints I've seen from the Save the 19 crowd is that the replacement should at least go as far as Stephens Green.

They could get a connection on Parnell St but they don't want to so it would have to be at least O'Connell Bridge or further.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,049 ✭✭✭thomasj

yeah I would say have it stop at the same stop as the 11, and across the road from the green line Luas luas stop on o'connell street.

same again at dolier street and terminate it at either Shaw street or college street. First stop back then Westmoreland street across from the Luas stop and same stop as the 11 again. Same again again O'Connell street down at the green line Luas stop and then onwards towards the airport etc.

One thing about this is how we do consultations. Very clear that it doesn't matter how many you do, it's only when you get to start implementing things you'll find out if there's support or at least not big pushback

The last BusConnects phase was in November 2023. It's a complete joke. If they can't even launch a few bus routes, what will the metro be like?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 325 ✭✭Kiteview

A vast money pit into which taxpayers’ money will be funnelled for years before the project is eventually recognised as being too expensive and cancelled when three quarters completed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,049 ✭✭✭thomasj

My own opinion at this stage would be that it's beyond a joke that for the most part it's one route that's holding up the show if the reports of the 19 being the issue are true.

Best off taking the 11 out at this stage and leaving it as it is for now. and bring it in alongside the 23 and 24 as part of the F spine

It would mean though another route would be needed to cover the northern leg of the 46A. Best off with the 13 using the 12 minute frequency until the O comes in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,259 ✭✭✭Daith

Or of course they could just proceed with the 19 as is and deal with it. If not they open themselves up to every change getting pushed back and that will be on them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,810 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

The N2 and W6 have both happened in 2024.

You can’t magic the staff out of thin air. We have to be realistic about this, given that each phase is all about expanding the bus service.

Somebody in the decision-making positions clearly doesn't have the spine to get things done.

    …I'll see myself out.

problem is , if what is said here is true , they haven't got the resources to proceed with the 19 as it is. They need more drivers.
