And if they are human, then drawing attention to their mistakes should be a big deal?

They'd surely like to learn from them & be better, correct?

I'm sure we'll get dragged for this the rest of the season so we'll end up paying a penalty beyond losing Hansen, but this omerta nonsense on officials needs to go. If they're dogshite they should be told so and know it.

Agree. Nearly every professional game on TV I have questions about a decision. Which must be incredibly frustrating for players and coaches.

I can only reconcile it with they usually catch way more and are more accurate than what most of us watching would.

In your own working life, when you are working in front of thousands of people and you're 'dogshite' would you welcome commentary on your mistakes ?.

Would you learn from it ?.

Im often frustrated by refs but I understand it's a tough gig. They will make mistakes in every game but usually they do a decent job.

I'm definitely not in favour of players calling them out publicly in the heat of the moment. This is the role of the management if they have a genuine issue, complied the evidence and put a mid level member of the management out to a press conference toaje the point. Take the ban and move on. But never fight a battle that doesn't improve your teams chances.

The TMO got this one wrong. Barret hit bundi with his shoulder on the head. I know you can argue the point about camera angles etc and arrive at any conclusion you want but if you arrive at the conclusion that Barret didn't then you really started from a position of not wanting to find it.

Its happened, it was missed, Mack made his point, there will be a cost.

Have Connacht benefited from any aspect of this episode? It remains to be seen.

On a side note, do posters think South Africa benefited from Rassies Video?

Hansen didn’t just point out that Barrett should have been penalised though. If he had, there’d be no issue.

Once he started accusing the ref of only reffing one team, 16 against 15 and all that, he went way over the line and that has to be punished. That’s grossly unfair on the ref and not a great reflection on Hansen.

And this idea that Connacht somehow get a raw deal every week no matter who the ref is, that’s absolute bollocks and it’s nothing more than making lame excuses for poor performances.

I’d give him some leeway based on the post match emotion and all that but there’s no way to spin this as being something that needed to be said or that Hansen is fighting the good fight.

Sorry FFF but is this a reply to my post? If it is it doesn't make any sense because I didn't say any of the things you are posting about.

Perhaps I've missed some post someone made about these things

They defintiely did - it influenced the ref in the next test!

Just taking an opportunity to point out to all that there is a massive difference between Rassie assembling a backroom team and spending days going over the match video with a fine tooth comb and Hansen blowing off steam after (a) very frustratingly officiated match(es).

You do know that the term "yobbo" in Aussie culture isn't necessarily derogatory? It's just a term used to describe a certain type of guys in Australia. And Hansen comes across as one.

So, Is foul play by Barrett praised in Leinster area. He got POM and rugby and all children in Leinster respect him as a roll-model. Wnderful!! People in Leinster seem that they don't care bad play but comment.

This Saturday, Connacht rugby will fight must-win match. I want to say 'Do best'.

Think Wilkins needs to start one of Bundee or Forde at 12 and keep The other on the bench. Bring O’Connor into 13 and Jennings to 15 with Cordero or Mullins onto the wing.

Don’t think this is a game where you need to go 6-2 either. I’d like to see Devine involved.

Good team. Would have thought no need for a 6/2 bench, would have thought it better to have had Mullins on the bench, assuming he is fit and available.

    Forde the backup out-half?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 554 ✭✭✭ShineyShiney

All interpro's are big games but this one feels pretty season defining to me. A big ask in an interpro but 5 points would be very nice thank you.

A little concerned about the 12/13 channel but happy to see us go again and build the understanding there.

Jennings exceptionally unfortunate to drop to the bench after another good outing however Santi has started to show some of his skill set in the last few games.

Hopefully the conversation afterwards is about rugby and not about the refs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,554 ✭✭✭✭cson

That's the job pal, nobody forcing your mate 'Buzzer' to be a pro ref.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,957 ✭✭✭Paul Smeenus

We have a seriously callow team. Jack Murphy getting his first start, ditto Rory Telfer. Willem de Klerk on the bench. Starts for Ben Carson (7 caps) and James McNabney (9 caps).

Missing too many players - think it'll be about maintaining pride more than anything else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,321 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

Seeing the respective strengths of the two sides earlier, made me think there's a decent chance we have had the highest % of players available across the provinces over the past couple of years. Certainly seems like we are a long way from the seemingly constant injury crises of years ago, like the one that led to Pat Lam trying to call his son up.

Its hard to conduct any real analysis given the opacity and infrequency of reporting on injuries, but I don't think we've seen the increase that I would have expected after moving to 4G, based on my own biases.

Interesting to see how the ref reacts to us tomorrow; when rassie went nuclear on the refs it paid off in spades but SA are a much bigger ticket and he made some veiled suggestions of racism which would have put the frighteners up ref.

Mack's comments weren't nearly at that level but id worry the officials would circle the wagons and look to settle the score for their mate "buzzer".

Just checked who it's is and it's Andrew Brace......when I saw the Ulster team I thought we should win handy, but a little worried with Bracie with whistle in hand.

URC will want this issue to dissappear. I reckon anything that might possibly be a TMO referral tomorrow will stop the game and be publicly reviewed, we might get alot of TMO reviews just to make the point to connacht. No issue with the ref as they are trying to navigate 30 lads pushing the boundaries during the game to get any advantage. It's the other officials that need to have more involved. End of the day smaller teams will always suffer from unconcise bias and that's in every sport in the world, just human nature and it will never change . Maybe have TMO public report after each game to be transparent and keep the TMO official accountable.

Chris 'Buzzer' Busby is not my mate. And I am not your pal.

Being able to dish out criticism and being able to take are clearly, in your case, quite different things.

Do you also object to Mackenzie Hansen being referred to as Mack ?.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,554 ✭✭✭✭cson

    Ah sorry buddy.

Wait, I've lost track, are we critiquing my posting, 'Buzzer' and his mates, or Mack?

Anyways, deal me out - I've less time for ref fanbois, closet Leinster fans or Ulster rugby being discussed in here, stick to your own thread(s).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 278 ✭✭kita99

Can Cordero stop (tackle) Kok or catch the high kicking bal well? And why is the penalty king at 23th? And why is there no Devine even on the bench who is one of the native players? Maybe Wilkins has good answer.

Unconscious bias is bias. Unconscious corruption is corruption. Rugby language like painting a picture actually means cheating the ref. Anyway I will be watching to see what they do to Connacht. When pat lam complained Connacht did not get one penalty in the following game which was also against Ulster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,342 ✭✭✭Ben Bailey

Connacht STH, member of Galwegians RFC but you'd like if I stuck to my 'own thread' ??.

You're absolutely right, you have lost track.

Out of interest is Frank Murphy still doing the ref job or has he packed it in. Haven't seen him for some time, not that that is such a bad thing

Conancht have been absurdly dreadful the first 20 minutes. Just haven’t turned up yet. Ulster wanting it much more so far.
