The advice to "not put a value on it" is high risk, it means (a) its not insured and (b) you are doing fraud.

As another poster said above, its a simple process for the UK person to say exactly what's happening i.e. a left-behind item is being returned to owner.

It's a PITA, but that shows how simple the EU made things for us.

What is going on with DPD…? Parcel was supposed to arrive on Thursday but there was no updates the entire day until after 8pm. I suddenly received an email that the parcel was to be delivered "today" morning 9.40 which obviously would have passed already if it meant Thursday. I thought maybe they meant Friday but when I checked the tracking, it says that on Thursday around 8pm it was "on a van and due for delivery", no time slot given in the tracking. That was a few minutes before I received the email. The next update an hour later says it was held at the depot awaiting collection and the last one shortly before 11pm that it had returned to depot.

Is DPD suddenly doing deliveries late in the evening? I don't know what is going on but this sort of trouble with undelivered parcels and delays always happens when our usual delivery guy is on vacation.

    Update:

The parcel arrived this morning but I never received any message about it until it had already been dropped at my door. Either their tracking is all over the place at the moment or something else is going on with creative delivery times.

The weird part is that the delivery time 9.12 did not even match the email they sent last night. If the email was referring to Friday (despite being sent Thursday night and stating "today"), the parcel arrived before the delivery time slot. Strangely enough, the tracking shows "delivered in safe place" before "on a van and due for delivery" stating a time slot between 9 and 10.

I am guessing they are being creative with the updates although I'm not sure how you can pencil in scans. Or their system is completely broken right now. What's also weird is that I contacted the customer service, which was a pain to do, around 9.30 and the tracking showed no updates for the day at that time. After the agent told me it had been delivered already, the updates suddenly appeared.

I was OP here… my solution has been that I am going to UK for business in 3 weeks and collecting it myself there. Actually less of a headache to do that than ever deal with postage between again.

Even less hassle to simply fill out the customs declaration properly before posting. Lots of people do it every day of the week.
