And you think we should dictate our countries position based on the ramblings of simpletons?

Fcuk everything about them. Odious cretins we should be pitying, not following.

Actually, when you're doing the exact opposite of what they want you can be pretty sure you're on the right track.

    This.

Where are the protests when Chinese politicians visit, but you can bet the country will be awash with protests if Trump visits. Why is nobody shouting about the medieval treatment of women in Saudi etc al? Why are we not protesting against Afghanistan and the Taliban?

Because we need business with China, oil from Saudi and after all, they're just women suffering in the tens of countries where they are second class citizens or worse. Yet we'll happily align ourselves against the only ever functional democracy in the middle east.

And I can't wait for the protests against "unvetted males" when Palestinian refugees start arriving - which they will.

Do I think Israel have been wise? No. They're just breeding the newest generation of recruits for Hamas. But I think consequences for our stance may ensue. And I wonder, if it's a toss up between jobs and our cushy lives, how interested in Palestinians we'll be....

Plenty of support for Hamas at the pro-Palestine marches in Dublin. I've seen it with my own eyes. Plenty of support for Iran in Ireland also, the country that is behind all of this. I'll point you in the direction of the President and his love letter to Iran as proof of that. Is Hamas classed a terrorist organisation in Ireland?

I must have missed where Ukraine attacked Russian civilians in January 2022. 🙄

No, the US is supporting Israel because it is the right thing to do. Ireland's treatment of Israel and the Israeli people has been appalling. The lack of empathy has been nothing short of disgusting.

I'm sure you did. Here are some from even more recent - a week before Russia was forced to intervene to save it's people who happened to be living there.

Supporting a colonial state is a good thing now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,411 ✭✭✭j62

The protestors are tied to a fence in Shannon still protesting a war that ended a long time ago

aww look it here, a far leftie who is parroting Russian propaganda and is supporting Russian genocide while crying crocodile tears about Gaza

    Hypocrisy is incredible

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,327 ✭✭✭✭Donald Trump

Lol. The truth hurts. There is almost a prefect mirror between the zionist tactics of propaganda for genocide and the Russian excuses for what they are doing in Ukraine. The hypocrites don't like it being pointed out. Most reasonable decent people see the parallels and condemn both. Some like to perform contortions to explain why it's different (when the reason is just that "the muslims" are being given a kicking in their eyes…….and they aren't smart enough to realise that the chaos sown by the zionists just drives more towards Europe!!!!)

But your strawman was anticipated and has been promptly laughed off 😀

And why should we take any notice of the likes of whatever limp wristed simpleton wrote that woeful shite? This is one time we don't need or want pats on the back from the US or anyone else, if anyone has a problem with our stance on the continued murder of women and children by the heroes of the IDF we have 2 middle fingers for them. They can all get fucked.

You cheer for one but cry about the other

I consistently call out shitheads for what they are

You sir are a hypocrite who doesn’t give two **** about Ukraine or Gaza and just use the misery spread by neo fascist/theocratic regimes to further your own insane far left angle

Ireland has been critical of the Israeli attacks on the civilian population of Palestine.
In what way exactly has Ireland treated the Israeli people in an apalling way?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,937 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

Did I miss the news where they also pulled their embassies out of Turkey, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Jordan and Egypt for their recognition of Palestine? I wonder is it because of our reliance on US multinationals providing jobs and tax money that they choose us as the mudguard?

This is about so much more than recognition of Palestine and was bound to happen eventually, the timing is also relatively insignificant. Had this happened before the US presidential elections, or indeed our own GE, there may have been some political impact

Lol. Show where I cheered for Russia. Or any "far left" post. Your particular slur is most perfectly placed back at you so please call yourself out.

Truth hurts. And you don't like it being pointed out. Your anger at being shown up is showing and your attempted gaslighting is laughable. 😀

    Israel=Russia and Russia=Israel

they didn't bow down and cheer israel's desire to defend itself by bombing kids.

Ive no real love for the irish establishment and feel very disenfranchised with it all but they've done well here.

Hats off to Harris and all.

So you would support closing of Russian embassy here?

Stop with the nonsense. Opposing genocide in Palestine is not the same as supporting Palestinian terrorists and you know it

More guards available for the beat, freed up from the embassy

Ireland, Russia, and Israel are three sovereign nations. Ireland has not closed any of it's embassies and cannot control what other countries do with theirs. No nation should sever diplomatic relations as a general principle. Of the above three, only one nation has taken that step in relation to their bilateral relations. Throwing their toys out of the pram. Neither of the other two can force them to reverse their decision. As I said, all three are sovereign nations.

Ireland should not close their diplomatic relations from their side as it stands. There has not been a direct attack by one on the sovereignty of the other two since the zionists cloned Irish passports for one of the extraterritorial murder missions

Some diplomatic staff could be declared persona non-grata in order to make a protest, if you want, but that does not extend to a full severing at present. I wouldn't support a full severance of ties by the Irish state at present with either, but they didn't sever ties with either and haven't indicated an intention to do so

The Russians directly cyber attacked our healthcare sector, threatened to freeze us and Europe, created and directed waves of refugees here leading to rise of far right and far left and even threatened to nuke this country oh and their ambassador repeated lied to people of this country on prime time tv

But thanks once again for exposing the hypocrisy of your positions

Hard to take your crocodile tears seriously anymore

It's the usual thing. Being against Israel's actions in Gaza by default means you are pro hamas and an antisemite. It's the usual escalation of criticism just in attempts to make people's arguments seem less valid.

Israel does this with with countries from time to time. They open and close their embassy in Turkey like shop shutters. They still trade with them even without embassy. No need to panic.

Can you please try to explain what your understanding of the word "hypocrisy" is? I think your understanding is not the normal understanding. Has it changed definition recently like the other buzzword "antisemitism"?

Russia=Israel and Israel=Russia. Almost perfect mirror images of each others propaganda tactics and operations. I am fully consistent with my treatment towards both. It is not me that supports one killing hundreds of thousands, but not the other. It is not me that clutches at pearls at the claimed "preemptory" seizure of Ukrainian land by Russia, but cheers on the seizure of Palestinian land, and more recently the claimed preemptory seizure of Syrian land. I call both out equally for what they are.

You may also not understand the nature and purpose and importance of diplomatic relations. I will leave you the quote below from an article citing former ambassador Dan Mulhall

Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Dan Mulhall said in his experience diplomacy is not about agreeing with people but it is about getting around your disagreements.

It is not about throwing your toys out of the pram in hissy fits. Source is below

You mean like how Ireland stood tall during ww2 and called out the Nazis and their persecution of the Jewish people from say, the time of Kristallnacht through to the death camps?

    Oh, wait......
