I'd be unsure of those reports - given they also say they want to sell him 'latest' in the summer - if you are setting a 'must sell' on any player you are making it impossible to get good value.

I would be shocked those if Rashford isn't been looked at as a sellable asset - i think anyone the club aren't confident will be a key player or important player in 3 years time is up for sale.

Sure we heard last summer that the only players we weren't actively looking to see were Mainoo, Hojlund and Garnacho.

And I dare say our apparently terrible money situation and the fact that rashford is one of very few players that could generate a substantial book profit is very important in that regard.

I think where I was coming from was that I have seen a few people post that the performances were much improved under Amorim, and really, are they actually much improved? Because I don't think there is much difference outside of positional changes.

And I wouldn't expect there to be, its only been a few games. But why are people saying it?

Its not important, just something noticed.

Rashford should absolutely be sold if any halfway decent offer comes in, sticking with him falls squarely into the old definition of madness.

But if maximising what the club can do under PSR is currently the goal then Garnacho is the one who should be up for sale. He hasn't tainted his value yet and other clubs will still see him as a huge potential star in a way that Rashford isn't. We could still get a premium for a player that could easily be the next Januzaj, if this is looked at with a cold, clear business hat on then that's who they should be inviting interest for.

Would I sell him? I don't know, he could be a huge superstar. But there are also quite a few signs that he won't be. If I were Berrada/Wilcox I would consider it a decision that could go either way.

There are a few off the wage books come the end of the season; Lindelof, Maguire, Eriksen plus low enough earners like Evans and Heaton should save us a few quid but selling of one of Rashford, Anthony, Dalot or Casemiro would really help.

Any idea who we might send out or bring in loan in January?

I agree with this. There were some very good periods of play in early games with EtH this season, only to be undone by a counter attack or a cut back or a daydreaming Dalot. The biggest difference Amorim has made so far has been to shore up that weakness by playing 3 Cbs and 2 sitting midfielders. But it seems to have been replaced with terrible set-piece/box defending.

Amad has looked great, but he also did in the first few games of the season, whatever went on with EtH to get him frozen out.

What we have seen is certainly not markedly different, let's hope for the best though. Amorim certainly has some charisma and some bright ideas, but he has alot of hurdles to jump, not least a fair few players who just won't do I'd say, not because of talent but more attitude and application.

Fair enough if they were just saying " yeah I'm playing today, or I'm on the bench today" which is what I presume most players would be saying.. but the entire line up, plus subs is being leaked out. So there is obvious intentions there to get it from the player and to get it out.

I would see the passing between the CB's more as a tactical thing myself, are they doing it a bit too much, possibly, but I thought it looked more to invite the press on to open more space ahead of them to then progress the ball.

The mad thing is that it looks like the players passing has improved somewhat in recent games. Maybe it's due to them being coached a certain way or whatnot, or to minimise the risky passes until more space is open, but it has definitely become more stable than what it was.

Lots of amateur detective stuff also going on linking this to garnacho, united team sheets have been getting leaked for years and years, he is only in the first team squad full time just over a year, the story is an easy one for people to eat up because he's been an eejit with his online account.

We are a long way from being anyway certain it's him but people are already looking to hang him over it. I guess that's just the internet for you.

Garnacho gains next to nothing from doing this, few extra hundred bucks a weeks or clout for some random fake internet accounts he has plenty of money and plenty of real clout.

Maybe the brother is making an eejit out of him but it could also be maybe a lot of other things too and that's the problem with a witch hunt. Especially one that makes little sense when you actually think about it for 10 seconds.

I agree it's a witch hunt, which is why I had left his name out of the reply.

The leaks had dried up previously around the start of Ten Hags time in charge and have only come back with full accuracy more recently

Maybe it was Ashworth with the leaks :)

I don't follow the leaks that closely so I'll take your word for it, just really could be a lot of people, not just players.

Garnacho is just the easiest a+b answer. That's all my point is and people seem to be just accepting it as fact, when it's all rumours and here say

Word is that United have cut the usual staff Christmas bonus from £100, to a £40 M&S voucher.

If true, it's a bit feckin miserable. Google tells me that United employ about 1100 people (that was in June, not sure if it's accurate after Ratcliffe's cuts). Saving £60 each at Christmas gains the club less than £70k a year.

That might seem like a big number but to put it into perspective, it's about £1,350 a week saved. The club spends more than £3,500,000 a week on players wages.

Jim taking the piss at this point. Basically making all the wrong decisions aside from the manager.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,942 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

But I don't think anyone is saying it's only him?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,519 ✭✭✭BenK

I wouldn't actually disagree too much with this. Although I do think there has been isolated parts of games where a semblance of a plan/structure is becoming apparent. But ultimately some players being as limited as they are will continue to let the team down. Definitely nothing to get too excited about yet though and possibly not for a good while yet.

You can see why he has such a hard on for Chelsea. The guy is a thatcherite. A miserable, brexit loving boomer.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,764 Mod ✭✭✭✭DM_7

Yes it is tactical and part of the focus on not giving the ball away. What I was getting at is that they are having to work so hard at it that they are thinking and it lacks the fluidity and incisiveness. The manager needs players that are strong at playing out but has arrived with a squad not used to playing that way so the out of sync/mismatch is a big obstacle to him doing well.

I'd wonder would the players not take 1% off their weekly which would sort out about double the original bonus?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,233 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

I seem to remember something last year about Bruno giving presents to all the staff. Mind you I'd say that was the folk around Carrington who they see regularly. I don't imagine he was visiting 1100 people with a Christmas box.

It would be nice for the players to do something, although it would also be a bit of a slap in the face (and a deserved one) to Jim and the ownership. Basically publicly calling them out for being stingy bastards.

Why would anyone care about a team line up being available a few minutes earlier than the rest of the world gets it? It's not like the opposite team is on twitter waiting for the line up so they can compose a more comporable team at the last minute. It's a bizarre thing to go on about.

Staff at underperforming business don't receive the bonus they once did shocker. Honestly, who cares about this stuff. You don't see hit pieces about any other PL teams goings on outside of the games themselves.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,351 ✭✭✭IncognitoMan

Correct teams have been leaked hours before games.

Any time I've been to OT over the last few years we have known the team in the pub long before any official team.

I'm not sure exactly how far in advance the players know but the leaks are correct at a stage where only them or staff would know.

I follow FPL accounts on twitter and in WhatsApp groups to get other team news that could help and it's rare teams leak to the extent Utds do. You'd hear a player is out or something similar but at Utd you'd know who was replacing him

I don't think it's within the dressing roomz

Manager has an 11 he wants to start the next game, which could be in 2 days and focuses the training on that 11 vs that specific team within his own playing style.

Having a leaked team an hour or so before the game doesn't imply to me that it's in the dressing room but on the outskirts of it.

Could be kit man, physio etc, doesn't have to be always be from the team itself.

Out of interest, anyone buying the kids a UTD jersey this year or have they asked for 1.

Got my oldest lad 1 last year, with Fernandes print on the back. Think it cost about 70/80 which was massive I thought. Don't quote me on it but I remember being it that expensive.

Any Santas delivering UTD jerseys this Christmas, and if any names on the back?

Going to buy the older brother a jersey with Anythont printed, fidget spinner and all.

Does anyone buy legit jerseys anymore?

Crazy money for jerseys from any sport nowadays.

I got my 7 year old the new home and away jerseys from soccer00.store. Paid I think €36 total for the two jerseys with names printed on the back and matching shorts. He got last seasons 2 jerseys from there too and they are still in perfect nick despite multiple wears.

100% this. Christmas bonuses are discretionary. The company i work for will have in the region of $2b in income by the end of the year and i got 3 bottles of wine for christmas. The reality is that the club were bloated in terms of head count and we are in a somewhat precarious financial position. Its also a business, not a charity. I have no doubt that the days of overpaying, particularly on playing staff are behind us. Big salaries or bonuses should be earned and not given "just because".

Where are you getting the bloated head count from?

The overpaid underperforming staff are all on the pitch or in the boardroom. The club still outperforms off the pitch thanks to the club staff.
