    I really don’t think so.

I do think a lot of people are adding two and two together and making five just because the Greens are no longer in government.

The delay with the E Spine could now be a combination of factors - possibly recasting the 19 as a cross-city service as a result of the political pressure before the election, staffing issues for either company, not wanting to be creating issues for any incoming government etc.

Delaying or even cancelling is always an option for any government.

Have you forgotten how the original plan to have the two LUAS lines intersect in the city centre was abandoned in the wake of continually whinging? And that it took over a decade for that decision to be reversed?

As soon as major work on the new CBCs is actually started, whining will explode as car drivers see the reality of what additional delay will mean to their commutes.

Remember, there are sizeable chunks of the population who will not take a bus under any circumstances and as we saw in the election, it doesn’t take much complaining for politicians to postpone/scrap changes lest they upset voters.

So wheres the successful tenderer for BC infra then ? The only article I can find is

https://www.irishtimes.com/business/2024/01/22/national-transport-authority-to-pay-bus-conects-partner-350m/ plus related stuff. I can't find - although I havent looked in great depth - how much of this is actually in the 2025 capital budget.

I’ve not forgotten that at all, but there isn’t going to be another election for five years and we have long passed the point of abandoning plans. 9 out of 12 bus infrastructure projects have planning approval now. That’s a completely different scenario to LUAS.

The fact remains that all the parties support BusConnects, plus we have legally binding climate targets. We are also being crippled by congestion and every party recognises that.

You can try and dress the election result up as much as you want, but there is a shift towards public transport investment that all of the parties are signed up to now. I really don’t see that changing.

I think that those people you refer to are going to be somewhat disappointed. There are plenty of commuters out there who do want to see the investment and they aren’t necessarily Green Party voters. Plenty of FF and FG voters use public transport and want to see it improved.

The difference will be that national road projects will in all likelihood receive more investment than they did recently.

I’m not in the least bothered by the delay to the E-Spine - trying to implement that in the midst of an election campaign was naive at best.

As pointed out above, this plan is one that pre-dates the last government.

naive is a bit cruel, no? it's not as if the election date was known till about a month beforehand.

I think it probably is fair comment given the level of political disquiet that had raised its head over the 19 during October, prior to the implementation date being announced.

The dogs in the street knew an election was likely before Christmas since September - it was all down to the Finance Bill being enacted.

I’m not bothered by it though, as I’ve mentioned above, as I do believe it is a reasonably easy problem to fix with a solution that will keep most people happy (a short extension to the 19 south of the river).

OK - but as I mentioned I dont see any tenderer for the work ?

Appreciate revised estimates 2025 are not yet out but you'd think NTA would have published the plan at the very least e.g plan, timelines lead company tendered and appointed subcontractors ?

per the linked article above "

The contract would last 10 years and the NTA said that initial construction contracts for BusConnects will be entered into in 2024 and the potential completion of the final schemes is

    "

I dont think a contract for the master has been let yet ( unless someone tells me otherwise ) and without that they can't let the individual spines out to tender. unless they really do pull something mad, it'll be 9 months before a shovel touches anything at the very least.

Maybe I'm wrong - has anyone seen individual spine works tendered for on etenders ?

    N2 Review So Far……………

I was really looking forward to this new Service. However I have been very disappointed by my experiences so far. Last Friday I was going to Heuston Station. The N2 arrived as scheduled in Glasnevin, dumped all passengers off the bus, would not let the 3 people waiting to board on. He said he had not had a break and relief driver did not turn up. Told us another bus would arrive in 10 minutes, but did not show for another 25 minutes. Appalling custome service. The same think happened last week outside Heuston Station, driver arrives, lets passengers off and then departs without taking on any passengers. I know its a new service but the passenger numbers are very low. I think it is a massive waste of money. They are obviously short of drivers.

I put several options in the TFI journey planner, and am disappointed that if going from Lucan, Blanchardstown to the Airport there doesn't appear to be any route using even part of the M50. Into town and use Dublin Express, or connect with 41 if Blanchardstown - is all I can see. Same probably applies to North Kildare.

Any Orbitals planned does anyone know? Maybe there are other options but it should be easy to find if there are and I didn't.

There are connections at Red Cow on Dublin Coach for Tallaght and Clondalkin, which is fine, but not for the others, which don't have LUAS either.

The airport hopper runs from Lucan to the Airport . That runs hourly .

The N8 route will run from Blanchardstown to Clongriffin via the Airport and the M50. It will run every 30 minutes all day but will not be launching until the B spine launch.

    Thanks @thomasj

The airport Hopper is not mentioned on TFI app though.

I think it used to be on the journey planner but I can't find it now. Odd. It is NTA licenced.

Dublin bus Christmas arrangements announced, no extra night-time services to make up for the E-spine delay it seems:

The NTA are aiming to launch Phase 6A on Sunday 26th January according to Dublin Commuters on Twitter.

It wouldn't make any sense for the new government to delay or cancel BusConnects.

Bus journey times have been cut by one third along the liffey quays since they were implemented by DCC in the autumn. These improvements to the journey times to bus routes travelling along the city centre are very welcome even though these measures were rolled out in a piecemeal fashion by the council.

However the important point remains is that these new measures are making a very positive difference in how the bus routes travel along the quays in Dublin City Centre. If the council were more aggressive in how they announced these measures. We would be having an even quicker bus service around the city by now if they were implemented in full.

This slide from Anne Graham at DCC yesterday indicates that they are planning to start work next year.

Tenders to be awarded in Q1 apparently.

Based on previous targets missed, I’d imagine construction work would be starting in the second half of 2025 rather than the first.

Yeah I think people took that PR too literally.

They will just add capacity on some departures on existing services (in other words a second bus!).

Interesting to hear another new depot is on the cards. Will this be a permanent one or another temporary arrangement?

Great news on Ballycoolin . Will be of great benefit to the Dublin 15 and Finglas areas.

Good to see the payment upgrades is in progress. I hope that they have a contactless leap card option so that people can continue to Avail of prepay and also where they could store any tickets.

Additional to existing depots or to allow CIÉ Property to flog off one of the goldmines they're currently sitting on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,627 ✭✭✭mikeybhoy

Wonder if that'll be for DB, GAI or maybe even a new company to win a tender for the NTA.

If it's an NTA owned facility it may be possible for multiple operators to use.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,049 ✭✭✭thomasj

Could well be if it's owned by NTA.

From what I've read from previous NTA meetings minutes the location in question is at Rosemount , 9.74 acres (not sure what that would be compared to other Dublin bus garages) and they were talking about agreeing a 250 year lease with Fingal Coco.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,935 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

The figures showing the patronage of the Southern Orbital routes in the NTA slides are very impressive.

Also is the newly purchased depot site in Ballycoolin located near Amazon's Fulfilment Centre in Dublin 15?

Did the NTA presentation say anything about the maximum number of buses it can have in the depot?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,805 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

They need more capacity to deal with BusConnects expansion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,805 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

Far more likely for most existing depots to be built over (were redevelopment to happen) rather than be sold off I would suspect - you need depots close to the city too.

Whatever happened to the Grange Castle depot that DB proposed years ago?

It dragged on for a few years until the recession eventually killed it.
