Few nice scores with Ballygunner getting back to there best

Business as usual for Ballygunner, feel they didn't need to come out of 2nd gear. Maybe the dual champion status for Loughmore-Castleiney caught up on them

2 wins away from Croke Park return

Very impressive performance from Ballygunner. Some of their forward play was a joy to watch. You have to say that Loughmore looked tired at times. Difficult to raise it week on week.

Loughmore haven’t had a match in 4 weeks in either code. Ballygunner just better.

That referee was dreadful. Just not up to it

they were out 15 weeks out of 17 before that between hurling and football. Either way, gunners weren’t going to be beaten. With the KK champions gone today it really is there’s to lose now. Slaughtneil look to be the best of the rest.

The Munster final will be a closer game. Sarsfield impressive winners but quality of the opposition was questionable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,890 ✭✭✭Asdfgh2020

you would have to fancy Sarsfields in the final after their excellent final ten mins. They put over point after point from all over the pitch……it’s been 16 years since a cork club won a Munster title……Sarsfields to win their first title ( I think) with 7/8 pts to spare like they did today.

I guess you are trying to wind people up with that. Ballygunner will look forward to the final with confidence

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41,719 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

No doubt about it that Ballygunner have the strongest 'panel' out of all the teams left in the All Ireland Championship. Ballygunner would of learnt from previous Munster finals to not write off any team ie Borris–Ileigh GAA in 2019. Im guessing the final will be in Thurles

They really should look at making the Galway champions go into Munster or Leinster, sitting back now for a month til the All Ireland Semi Finals. Long time since The Kilkenny senior champions went out of Leinster that early

Maybe it's just a reflection on the Tipp championship, last team to win a game in Munster was Borrisoleigh in 2019.

i dont agree , i think club is all on the day , i watched a good shot of the waterford championship this year , it was no better or worse then clare or tipperary just that ballygunner are an excellent side , de la salle and lismore had great chances to really upset the apple cart but in fairness the apple cart is a Juggernaut at the moment

Hard to see beyond Ballygunner now,Na Fianna and Kilcormac are 2 good teams but not at the same level.Anyone know here when was the last time a Waterford team won won a Munster football championship game?

If you look through the recent winners in Tipp, it's spread over a lot of clubs, the standard is very even, all the games this year were close. No team has a large quota of county men.

The two most dominant recent teams were Shamrocks and Ballygunner, both with a huge roll call of past and present county players. For the moment Ballygunner can shape their year for the Munster campaign, they come through Waterford at a canter.

No reflection on the Tipp championship at all. as john Mullane said on the radio yesterday, clubs from across the other Munster counties are starting to realise what we’re dealing with in Waterford.

    HARTY CUP NEWS

Following the Round 3 games in the TUS Dr. Harty Cup Under 19 A Hurling competition this week, the winners of the three groups with 4 teams qualified for the Quarter-Finals in the New Year – namely Group 1 winner CBC Cork, Group 2 winner Ardscoil Rís Limerick and the winner of Group 3 (Blackwater Community School Lismore or Cashel Community School who play next Tuesday).

As per the competition regulations, the fourth confirmed Quarter-Final place was determined by a draw between the winners of the groups with 3 teams (Group 4 winner – CBS Midleton, Group 5 winner - De La Salle College or Group 6 winner - St. Flannans College Ennis). That draw took place this afternoon with CBS Midleton being selected as the fourth Quarter-Finalists. De La Salle College and St. Flannans College will play in the Preliminary Quarter-Finals as a result.

The Preliminary Quarter-Final draw will take place next Tuesday evening after the remaining Group 3 game between Blackwater Community School Lismore or Cashel Community School with repeat pairings being avoided.

The teams involved in the Preliminary Quarter-Final draw are as follows –

Group 5 winner - De La Salle College

Group 6 winner - St. Flannans College Ennis

Group 1 runner-up – John the Baptist Community School

    Group 2 runner-up – Our Ladys Templemore

Group 3 runner-up – loser of next Tuesday’s Blackwater Community School Lismore v Cashel Community School game.

    Group 4 runner-up – Nenagh CBS

Group 5 runner-up - Gaelcholáiste Mhuire an Mhainistir Thuaigh

    Group 6 runner-up – Thurles CBS

    Preliminary Quarter-Finals – December 4th

    Quarter-Finals – January 8th

    Semi-Finals – January 18th

    Final – February 1st

Rathgormack will rue not taking advantage of a poor Dr Crokes performance today, had chances & referee done them no favours, looked to do Rathgormack out of a penalty when the keeper slid in and gave most 50:50 decisions to the Kerry side.

Dessie announced captain for the coming year.
    dunno about that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,290 ✭✭✭seananigans

Few records on the line Sunday

currently ballygunner joint 1st on Munster wins (and number one on final appearances ) so will be clear 1st if a win

    image.png

secondly would bring Waterford from 5th to joint 3rd on the county roll of honour

    image.png

Thirdly would be the first team to go 4 in a row.+

Any others I have missed ?

Dessie picked as captain for 2025

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,608 ✭✭✭Mastermcgrath

thoughts on this? He didn’t have a great year for the county team by his own standards, don’t know if he needs this added pressure. I’d rather see him focus on getting his game right, plenty other leaders there that could take up the mantle

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,919 ✭✭✭Cake Man

You're probably right there are likely more natural leaders in the panel but wouldn’t bother me too much. Main thing for me on Dessie is that he’s not on the frees again this year. Either go back to Stephen Bennett (who to be fair can have an off day here or there) or give it to Paudie Fitzgerald if he’s going to be a regular starter. He seems to go well on them for Kilrossanty?

Dessie carried an injury through the year, didn't play for Ballygunner in the opening stages of the championship. Personally Tadgh would have been my first choice as captain but Dessie is a leader in the squad so he's not a bad choice.

I think the free taking conundrum is one of the first things Queally needs to address
