Huge funding for Phase 2 and 3 secured. Credit to all involved in securing it. Immigrant Investment Programme and Large Scale Sports Infrastructure bringing in the big bucks. Planning to commence work on one side in early summer 2025.

that being after our Munster championship games next year yea?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,006 ✭✭✭DiscoStew

Correct. Whether it would impact 2026 Munster Championship I’m unsure. Couldn’t see work being complete by then, but maybe we would have permission to just close off one end from supporters rather than lose home advantage.

    Lads

The time is now for Queally to backbone the county team with Ballygunner players. They have to have six or seven nailed on starters who can instil the winning mentality into the group that is so patently evident in the current BG squad.

Suggesting a young lad like Paudie Fitzgerald, extremely promising as he is, is ready for an intercounty captains role is more of the same bullshit. The wealth of experience and knowledge Dessie will bring to the role is unmatchable in other counties never mind Waterford. The focus for Peter has to be tapping into the the Ballygunner machine and hope that the better players around the county can step up to support them. I have no doubt they will.

No one suggested Padraig Fitzgerald should be captain.

What Ballygunner players? as good a side as they are I don’t think there’s anyone that’s not in the county setup that hasn’t been given a fair crack. I’d take Soky in a heartbeat. I think he’s up there with Quaid and Murphy as the east keepers on the game. I’d take Pauric Mahony back to help with the free taking issue, until the likes of Patrick or Padraig Fitzgerald already to step up. But that’s it….

How Paddy Leavy doesn't start for Waterford is a mystery. Great player.

I think Tadhg Foley is definitely worth a place on the panel. We’re not blessed with natural corner backs at present. Conor Sheahan will surely get more minutes in the league this year too. Leavy got a lot of league game time last year but the change of system didn’t favour him. He’ll surely get more game time in the league at a minimum.

Best of luck to Kilrossanty in the Munster final today

Not to be for Kilrossanty after a promising first half

they done themselves and the county proud. Considering they didn’t even win the junior in Waterford, they’ll be back stronger next year

Started against limerick in the championship in the gaelic grounds, think he started all the league games

BG in trouble here - Sars playing very well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,005 ✭✭✭ForestFire

Over now with that 3rd goal. However I'm sure I counted 10 steps for the second goal, even if there was a potential foul??

sars were much better side today all over the pitch

    Ballygunner gone. Some shock

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 394 ✭✭JD. 60

    Absolutely. No excuses.

The only Ballygunner player to emerge with any credit is Patrick Fitzgerald.

arrogance and complacency finally caught up with Ballygunner. They were nearly caught by Doon and finally caught today. They were well beaten all over the field. A shame we won’t see an all Ireland returning to the county but they’re big boys they’ll get over it.

Have to kind of agree…Always support the Waterford team in Munster/AI, but maybe this year it was because not enough of us wrote them off for the Final this year and they just could motivate themselves!!

didn’t see any arrogance or complacency. Saw a team that gave their all but just werent good enough

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,791 ✭✭✭Motivator

I’m living in Cork and I was at the semi final and final against Imokilly. Sars were lucky they only got beaten by 9 in the final. Ballygunner are miles better than them. Don’t get me wrong sars played well today but Ballygunner were atrocious from start to finish. For me it was nothing other than complacency but they’ll never admit it. They had one eye on the all Ireland semi final and got caught cold. They got caught against Borrisoleigh in similar fashion a few years back.

Didn't expect a Sarsfields win in the Munster final but that's sport and they were well deserved of it

You'd feel this is a hurtful loss for Ballygunner as this was a golden chance to add another All Ireland title plus making history in Munster. 3 in a row Munster titles and An All Ireland is still an excellent record and will be fondly remembered but only 1 All Ireland Final apparence is a little underwhelming

Maybe a few of the old guard and management could walk away now. Maybe a new face and direction is what is needed. Could see them winning the Waterford Championship again next year as I don't think there's a club in the county strong enough yet to dethrone them

Suppose this means the Ballygunner contingent will be with Waterford for the whole of the league

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36 gunners200

thought a lot of the old guard were surprisingly very poor today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,496 ✭✭✭Mastermcgrath

Possibly so, Sarsfields were hungrier right from the off. Winning all the 50/50 tussles, more aggressive in the tackle. Was waiting for the Ballygunner onslaught but it never came and you’d feel if the game went on for another hour they’d still be second best.

There was a vulnerability about Ballygunner today that I hadn’t seen before. There’s no reason for the other sides in Waterford to look at Sarsfields today and think Ballygunner can’t be got at. They’ve been great representatives for Waterford but time is ticking for a lot of those players and surely someone has to come along in Waterford and beat them in the next year or two. Christ knows the county needs it

Darragh always preached of a great panel but he never seemed to use it especially when under pressure today..

Thomas showed the template last year to take on BG. I.E Go hard for absolutely everything and hope the ref is a sort to let alot go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 394 ✭✭JD. 60

The subs have been used sparingly all along ; you could say that strategy worked most of the time. Must be frustrating for those on the bench ; the likes of Billy O'Keefee deserved more game time. As mentioned earlier, some of the more 'senior' players might call it a day.

Despite the loss yesterday, it shouldn't over shadow what they have achieved inside and outside the county.

well it’ll be thrown at them that 1 fortunate all Ireland win to show for all their dominance is not a great return. They’re a super team no doubt but definitely a underwhelming at the all Ireland stage.
