I don't agree with all her "takes" on things but I'd love to see someone like Elisa O'Donovan take a seat in Limerick, more so at the cost to Leddin.

Saw a few mins of it , he was a bit mixed I felt ,probably more nervous than anything but I do like him and feel he is passionate about improving limerick on key points

Interesting that TDs who have objected to countless planning permissions say housing is their key focus..

To be honest I don't have a clue what the "ability" of any councillor is.

Can see Daly doing well from Willie O'Dea transfers and wouldn't be surprised if O'Dea reps for Frankie over Dee. See some of Frankie's family out helping O'Dea this campaign.

Interesting podcast series by Ivan Yates called "calling it"

City, he thinks Willie O'Dea, Maurice Quinlivan, Kieran O'Donnell and the last seat will be a dogfight between Dee Ryan, Conor Sheehan and Frankie Daly and he's tipping Conor Sheehan to win it.

County is the most predictable in the country, the 3 sitting TDs. Collins, O'Donovan and O'Donoghue.

Makes a good point that every non-govt candidate will be jumping on the UHL issue so doesn't think the Mid-West Hospital Campaign candidates have a chance

That's not really interesting. It's basically what everybody is saying except he is overestimating how bad the greens are gonna do. Leddin has just as much a chance as the rest at the 4th seat.

All his picks across the country are just stating the obvious and then taking stabs at the final seats.

It ended up being just 7, no Brian Leddin, Maurice Quinlivan, Willie O'Dea, Maria Byrne, Esther Aherne, Sarah Beasley or Frankie Daly. I think the main parties each only put 1 candidate forward.

Leddin & Aherne had last minute issues, no mention of the other independents not attending.

I was referring to the RTE debate being a snoozefest

I get why FF would send Ryan to this and not O'Dea but in general has O'Dea surfaced at all in this election. I haven't seen or heard him so far this campaign.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 26,507 ✭✭✭✭phog

Where have you been, wasn't it O'Dea who had the swipe at the minister for justice only a few days ago.

But most of O'Dea's work is from door to door canvassing and his constituency office work. FF seem to have dropped him from their media panels for a while now

In fairness Dillie is the safest bet in the country, barring an absolute disaster he will get in. Where is the motivation to bother campaigning?

Willie was canvassing two weeks ago in Caherdavin.

Yeah, Willie's been out and about since before the election was called. He's doing the old fashioned knocking on doors. Debates that few people will actually watch aren't going to make any difference to him.

Ryan was very well prepped TBF and FF are going all in all building her profile. Issues that jump out tho, are her defending the abject failure around housing and doing so with extremely selected statistics. Similarly with her defence of FF performance in health.

Paul Gavan also stood as perhaps the best prepped & prepared of the candidates but in fairness? Debating FFG at this point is an open goal.

Conor Sheehan was also very well prepped and IMO delivered a better performance than during the DEM debate.

Ruari Fahy also put in a good performance and really comes across as both across the issues he cares about and well able to engage. It is a pity that he is PBP, I cannot abide RBB so shall be voting Fahy lower than he deserves.

The rest of the candidates were really much of the same with O'Donnell's defence of FG & his own performance being quite staid to be honest.

The less said about Michelle Hayes the better, just very poor and went all in on tying herself to Aoife Johnston and did so in poor taste.

The FFG position seems very much stay the course and hope for incremental change. Whereas that really does just become a formula for rewarding failure.

Is it time for a new leftist coalition? Certainly if they can command the votes but, can they put aside their own golden calves to put country above all?

The debate did shift my own voting order and it is worth a watch IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,056 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Ya was very impressed by how well prepped some were especially Sheehan who I was going to vote for anyway and Ryan who was never gonna convince me.

If I went in knowing nothing about Fahy and Gavan's parties I would definitely have given them a preference too.

My votes were pretty much set going in but it decided my preferences.

The thing about the housing crisis is that, despite it being top of the headlines, it won't actually be that large a vote getter/loser. People are basically selfish and the majority of people (especially in older cohorts) aren't affected by it.

With regards to health, it's no coincidence that the extension to St. Camillus' was officially opened by Stephen Donnelly this week and that he announced 300 new beds for UHL, with 128 of them coming online by June, at the event.

Come the end of the month FG will be the biggest party in the Dail and FF and SF will be very close behind them. Neither will go in with SF so it will be FF/FG again with one or more of Labour/SD/Independents.

That's how I read it too and I really think SF are happy with that too. It's must easier for them to be in opposition than try lead a government with all left parties and FF & FG won't engage with them unless results go horribly wrong for them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,621 ✭✭✭✭banie01

Sheehan will get my No1 too but my follow preferences will be rejigged a little on foot of the debate.

On Cookiemunster's point of the result and a likely FFG coalition being returned? I agree it's the most likely outcome but I certainly wouldn't discount the possibility of SF & FF at least exploring coalition.

Willie has just been in Caherdavin.I asked about Dee Ryan and got a cold reaction.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 13,220 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cookiemunster

With just over a week to go the bookies think that Brian Leddin will be the only sitting TD in the City or County to lose their seat. They have Dee Ryan and Frankie Daly neck and neck to take the 4th seat with Conor Sheehan just in behind them.

Frankie Daly 4/7. Dee Ryan 4/6. Conor Sheehan. 9/4 Brian Leddin 10/1.

I have it in my head that he has always been like that with FF running mates for some reason.
