The latest for the city. Maria Byrne (FG) was eliminated, and votes are being redistributed. 4th seat still too close to call, and likely will be right upto the final count.

What's the story there. RTE said something about bad blood ?

Leddin called her unhinged in some WhatsApp group in 2021. She made an official complaint to the Green Party about it where sleepy Eamon Ryan just waved it away and said nothing to see here in terms of disciplining Leddin.

Was big enough news at the time as Leddin was a sitting TD.

That's why I could never run for government. "Unhinged" would be on the mild end in my WhatsApp groups 🤣

They were bf & gf for a time, then had a falling out of some sort and then as mentioned there was the WhatsApp stuff.

There is certainly bad blood there now.

After the last count, there's one vote separating EOD and CS

    Nail-biting finish

After the last count, Sheehan passes out EOD, WOD's surplus being distributed now

I think we'll end up with a recount if not a new election

Sheehan should benefit more from Beasley's transfers than O'Donovan. Both being Northside councillors and Sheehan being involved with St Munchins Community Centre.

    Count 12:

Maurice Quinlivan still not elected, Labour getting close to that fourth seat.

You'd imagine Beasley will mostly transfer to Quinlivan. Nationwide, SF seem to be transferring well to the Soc Dems. Dee Ryan is presumably out next, can't see her getting too many transfers from Beasley.

We're in for a few more counts!

There might be a recount, but there won't be a new election. Willie O'Dea and Kieran O'Donnell were the two candidates 'affected' by the the ballot paper cock up and they both got elected

Sheehan ahead by 81 after Beasley's votes were redistributed. Maurice has a surplus of 801 to be redistributed. Sheehan should do well out of that.

Elisa needs to hope that a lot of Dee Ryan voters were thinking vote female transfer female if she's to get elected.

Does there need to be a certain number of votes between two candidates before a recount is allowed?

Sorry, I thought all the O'D were affected so I thought Elisa might have a valid objection

Dee Ryan's transfer's will decide it. 16 votes in it now.

Anyone who drags the city out for another election over an alphabetical system the majority never noticed existed will be crucified.

Outside of the inconvenience you are telling the public they are too stupid to vote for the right people because 2 names were in a different place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,227 ✭✭✭✭phog

They are well entitled to seek a judicial review and if granted then so be it.

If you think the electorate are stupid, that's your opinion

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,399 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Ya they are entitled of course.

And the people are entitled to hold it against them if they do and I think they would.

If seen a lot of talk amongst political "nerds" that position on the paper counts but whoever calls that review will be telling people that they are so stupid that they vote based on alphabetical order.

It's not something I believe myself so don't be insinuating I think they are that stupid.

    Any links?

My main source of info for this election is X & BlueSky but I haven't seen anyone (other than posters here) say the electorate are stupid to make an error in voting because names appeared out of sequence

Live 95 had a video up of O'Donovan conceding to Sheehan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,227 ✭✭✭✭phog

I saw that and I'm the background is Nigel Dugdale who couldn't make eye contact with her 🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,922 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Happy for Sheehan I gave him my number one for the local and mayoral election but went with O'Donovan this time.

Labour will likely jump into bed with FF and FG like a dog on heat if given a sniff of power and then wonder why they're getting the Green Party treatment come next election.

So went with Social Democrats this election but if they're gonna lose out to anyone I'm happy it was Sheehan and not any of the others.

Labour & SDs should have had a pre election pact but they hate each other so was never going to happen.

The left & SF are never (well maybe never say never) going to agree an alternative alternative to FF/FG

So Conor ended being elected without reaching the quota, he had about 600 votes more than Elisa.

Imagine how tense that would have been if it was Sheehan Vs Beasley.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,399 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Sinn Fein are not really left so it's pretty hard to find common ground there. Same with the Greens, people call them left but they are actually their own category.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,227 ✭✭✭✭phog

I never said they were, but they along with PBP campaigned on getting FF/FG out of government, that means SF need to get other smaller parties to form a coalition but they couldn't even agree a voting transfer that would be a first step in getting enough seats to form a government.

I'd have put EOD ahead of CS in my preference list, of which I gave a preference to every candidate bar one - because you never know how slim the margin would be

It's likely the next govt will be the 2 civil war buddies so minimal enough difference in fairness

EOD was the most engaging candidate on the doorstep, i would imagine she was surprised she did so well on the count but best of luck to Conor Sheehan.
