Good morning, I appear to have lost some channels over the last few weeks on FTA. Namely itv be and 5star and some others.

Has the frequency changed for these? Can I retune?

    TIA.

There is a STICKY at the top of this forum and it gives all the new frequencies. Whether you can retune is another matter as you don not say what make and model of receiver and some of the channels no longer transmit in SD.

If you are unsure post back and you will get sorted.

Thanks for that. I have a zgemma so all should be fine. I'll take a look at the sticky. Didn't see it earlier.

Good, look at post 1925 in the zgemma h7s thread and you wont get caught out again.

Just to note that 5Star and all the other channels in the Channel 5 family changed frequency in September 2023 to what is on the sticky now. Before that they were on 10964 H. If 5Star has only gone missing in the last few weeks, that would not be the issue. And all the other channels on 11305 H would be gone as well?

Could you post a link to the thread?

I could only find this which I'm not sure is the right thread/post.

its such a dose how they move.. on my elderly aunts ariva box they gone and she wondering why.. hard to explain to her.. and not a chance of retuning them over the phone.. hopefully will get to visit soon to retune for her.. why do they actually move? is it a cost play?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 220 ✭✭harryd2

Thanks. Is there any way to auto-track channels that move, or is manual update the only way?

I've the same problem as micks_address - have a few boxes with relatives and have had to manually re-tune a good bit recently.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,199 ✭✭✭Ger Roe

I have the same problem, three boxes myself and others with elderly relatives. It used to be a minor inconvenience going around and tuning them back in once in a while, but it is becoming far more frequent recently.

It is the price we pay for not paying a price (subscription) for a service provider to manage it for us. 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,503 ✭✭✭andy1249

Its a phase out of DVB-S which is now obsolete.

Everything must be be moved to DVB-S2 , so it seems like there are multiple moves every couple of weeks.

Easiest way to manage it is with ABM and Webif , just a question of moving channels to your favourites from the ABM bouquets which should catch all the moves.

Should be nearly done by now , almost every channel in my favourites has moved over the last couple of months.

Over the last couple of weeks it has been the channel 4 group of stations that moved , this week it seems its the ITV channels.

" Is there any way to auto-track channels that move, or is manual update the only way?" YES but the answer depends on the box one uses. If you use an enigma2 box like a ZGEMMAH7S or Gigablue, or Octagon or Vu+ etc you can set up a piece of software in the box called " automatic bouquets maker" ABM and that will run late at night and update all the channels.

For other boxes like ARIVA I don't know if they possess such a facility.

I would say the big moves are almost over and peace at last.

Thanks. I have a h7s w ABM running nightly. I have to move channels have the webif every few weeks for the last few months. Hopefully most channels have moved to DVBS2 now. Some of my relatives live a few hrs from me so hard to update each time.

There are just three channels left on 10714 H. When they move to 10936 V, that could be the last of the current changes? Clicking on BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 in red on the RXTV page, will bring up the current manual tuning details.

"The manual tuning pages are particularly popular by readers in the Republic of Ireland, where it’s more common to find generic free-to-air satellite receivers requiring manual tuning. You’ll also find the ITV page of interest if you want to store an alternative ITV region on your Sky or Freesat receiver."

    https://www.lyngsat.com/muxes/Astra-2E_UK_10936-V.html

    https://rxtvinfo.com/satellite-updates/

    Channel 4 switching to DVB-S2

17/10/2024 – Channel 4’s offshoot SD channels are switching to DVB-S2. Unlike the BBC and ITV, Channel 4’s HD offshoots are paywalled, so Channel 4 needs to retain a free-to-air copy of the SD channels. Channel 4’s main channel, which is available free-to-air in HD will drop the last remaining SD simulcast. As part of the change, channels including E4, Film4 and More4 are moving to 10936V in the coming weeks, with a period of dual illumination until the old copies are turned off.

Anyone know if it's possible to share a favourites bouquet? For example nightly download from a specified location.

That way we could avoid having to do these updates each time a channel moves.

Sorry to be digging up old comments but I cannot for the life of me properly tune in ITV on my Zgemma H7s.

I had a Sky Box earlier this year and I was able to use the details found in this guide https://www.balls.ie/football/how-to-get-itv-in-ireland-for-euro-2024-473093 to get them but using the same ones on my Zgemma results in unwatchable channels (unchanged from how they are automatically being tuned in).

I also tried using the KingOfSat details https://en.kingofsat.net/channelhistory.php?ch=11623 but to no avail (not sure what to do with "SID:8274 PID:1701/1702").

I'm having the same issue with some other channels like PBS America.

Any chance you could tell me which parameters to follow on the RTX page https://rxtvinfo.com/itvstvutv-satellite-manual-tuning/ because I don't see any for Ireland?

The same frequencies and parameters cover these islands.

If you're not getting all the channels during tuning you could have a dish alignment problem

Lyngsat is user friendly list of FTA channels and their parameters.

Did you have Sky Q? If so, ask on the ZGemma thread about how to get the channels. Apparently Q uses a LNB on the dish which may not get all the channels on other boxes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54 ✭✭clashoftheash1

    Thanks for the response!

I don't think I'm putting the parameters in correctly so.

What on that list is the 'symbol rate' on my zGemma? Is it it the one in the box labeled 'System SR FEC'?

Do I need to input 'Logo SID' and 'VPID' somewhere?

The other settings I have on my zGemma but don't know are: Inversion (it's set to 'Auto'), Roll-off (set to 0.25), Pilot (set to 'Auto') Transport stream type (set to 'ordinary'), Network Scan ('No'), Clear before scan ('No'), Only Free Scan ('No')

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54 ✭✭clashoftheash1

I had Sky Q and I changed the receiver on the dish so that I could use the dish for Freesat.

I was able to use the same dish and the sky box to tune in ITV following a guide on Balls.ie of all places and it was very straightforward so I don't see why it wouldn't work with this box if the BBC and channel 4 and them all work away.

The box knows the channels are there and it nearly has them tuned in. I have the EPG info and all. It's like I just need to adjust the frequency up or down a touch to refine the feed.

You don't need the PIDs and SIDs.

Frequency, polarisation H or V, Symbol Rate (SR), FEC - can be done automatically by the box or via manual entry

Scan FTA or all including pay/subscription channels.

Some FTA channels are tagged encrypted, Channel 5 group of channels iirc, they won't be stored on a FTA scan, so they and other can only be found using an encrypted channel scan

Post #1254 on Page 42 of the Zgemma thread has the procedure to scan a single transponder. In that example 11553 H. Two of the various transponders with ITV are 11386 H and 11386 V. Try that tuning procedure to see what happens.

Using each of those finds unnamed channels with the same distorted reception so maybe it is just an issue with my dish. Just a bit odd because the other tuned channels are perfect and I don't think we got any bad weather since I got rid of Sky.

That guide above is completely wrong and way out of date.

clashoftheash, you are on the wrong track, the zgemmah7s has to be built almost from scratch, ideally one should flash Openvix image, so after you have done the language, resolution, network, 2 tuners for sat and one tuner for Saorview you then set up AUTOBOUQUETS to scan for all the FTA channels and select the region you want, London. NI etc. You can hide bouquets you dont want to see and you include saorview. A lot of users have the abm set to run regularly, eg weekly or daily and so on in case a channel changes frequency.

Next you set up epg ie configure for all FTA and select regions etc run that and your good to go,

With openvix you get all the bits you needed included they just need configuring. With Openatv you have to add them via plugins and need box connected to internet.

To add one channel or frequency you use signal finder and where it says predefined you toggle to make it user defined and then enter parameters.

    This has me totally baffled

" Some FTA channels are tagged encrypted, Channel 5 group of channels iirc, they won't be stored on a FTA scan, so they and other can only be found using an encrypted channel scan"

When ABM is set up correctly you need no reference to an encrypted channel scan, it's only free scan Yes OR No and will always be No.

Box has 3 slots so can have 4 images.

If you say image I can say a bit more go menu information about and it should say.

I've honestly put hours and hours into this setup over the last few weeks because at every stage there's something new gone wrong and I just take break from it for a long time for my sanity.

Yesterday I flashed it with OpenATV 6.7 and ran the auto bouquets but the ITVs, PBS America, Legend, and others on those same transponders we were talking about have been found but the channel isn't tuned in correctly. Like I can see the EPG info and I can go onto the channel but it's just scatter essentially.

I have done a brand new scan and started the whole box setup from scratch multiple times but these channels have never been right. (I was mainly doing this because Autobouqets won't work with Saorview for some reason but I got around this by adding them through the Web interface thing)

That's why I'm trying to see if I can edit them manually or something because they will not autoscan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,897 ✭✭✭swoofer

I have to go to a call today to fix legend etc so i know its a vertical frequency and i will check the skew on the lnb first and then the focal lenghth and then the aim and the dish elevation and then change the lnb. I will use an app dish align on iphone.

To make your box work you will need it connected to the internet and you need to change image to the latest image version of Vix, 6.7.017 multi you can go back to Openatv later but its now at 7.6 and 6.7 is ancient.

Before you do anything you need to check dish, do this using signal finder. put in 11343V 27500 2/3 dvb-s2, 8psk and if you don't get a signal then dish is out or you have wrong lnb etc see first para. If you do get a signal it will show strength and agc I'll give figures on mine in a little while. With a signal green to scan and see what you get. This is it on signal finder, 2 pages so arrow down. Openatv7.5.1 testing.

Is lnb new and where did you buy it?

    here is vix

    https://www.openvix.co.uk/index.php/downloads/zgemma-images/zgemma-h7/

for saorview and ABM its how you configure abm and i always use london sd custom.

If you are new to vix i can say more. One last thing does box have HDD sticking out at rear?

NB flashing with usb should only be done once and make sure epg location is hdd not intenal flash. All other flashing is done via the internet. With your openatv6.7 its possible they have turned off online flashing but you could try, fo software manaement and look for flash online and see if yellow button shows a link like distros or it may just show openatv versions. You could select 7.3 and flash that to another slot and start from scratch. With 7.3 I know you can get Vix and put that in another slot. But that 6.7 is too old and may dead.

Apologies for this now but just to drive home the point that I don't know what I'm talking about, I actually did flash it with OpenVix 6.7 (not OpenATV 6.7) and I got it from that same page you linked and on the box Information page it says Image is 6.7.017 (realease) so I think I should be good on that front. I did it with a USB without knowing anything about EPG loaction.

Using that signal scan it said it found 25 channels. The 'SNR' gives me values between 0 (for 0dB) and 31% (mostly late 20s). 'AGC' is 72% and 'BER' is 0%.

Ya I bought the LNB new and installed it myself.

For my Freesat location I have been saying East Anglia (because a lad in a video did it) but for Saorview I have been saying my nearest antenna (Woodcock Hill). I was able to get the Saorview channels on a bouquet manually though so I kind of don't want to go near it now!

I bought an SDD for the box as well and when it's inserted it sticks out the rear if that's the same. The box doesn't seem to recognise it though (no storage menus are coming up) which I was going to deal with after trying to sort these channels!

I can assure you with Openvix its easy peasy and all I need now is the skin, so menu information about, it may say simple 1080 under skin.

Your lnb is out and needs a tweak, ie skew, from the front you need a slight twist clockwise and you may need to move it in an out a tad. Freesat is no more and I use sky uk and a lot better.

But you have to get dish signal sorted. I fixed that dish today and it was only out a fraction. That true crime is weak and good to align signal, ie if you get it at 80 or better then everything else will be fine.

You should have read the zgemmah7s guide thread.

I'll tell you how to mount ssd tomoro and be warned box is saving epg to internal flash and that is not good. For now I would put usb in rear and reboot then go epg settings location toggle to change to usb, it may say hdd but that is usb.

Those boxes are buggers for beginners but great when sorted.

    Box is latest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54 ✭✭clashoftheash1

I managed to change the skin to Slyk-q-1080 through the plug-ins page so I don't know if that was the wrong thing to do.

I changed the EPG to save to the same USB I flashed the box with so hopefully that doesn't just try to flash the box again down the road again but for now I think it's okay!

I won't be able to adjust the dish for a few days because I need to borrow a hoist from work to get at it, but how would I isolate signal finder to True Crime when I am doing it? And is the 80% value for AGC, SNR and BER or just one of them?

Thanks for this man. If I had known how much time I was going to essentially waste doing this (from not knowing what I was doing) I don't think I would have started this from scratch but I have to see it through now!

I am laid up at the moment so have spare time. I'm going to show you how to configure the box correctly from scratch but you have to follow each step and don’t assume you know the next bit and take a chance. I have the same box as you and with the same skin etc. it will be spot on. Here goes.

    1. You changed the LNB not the receiver. The receiver is the zgemma. Are you sure it’s a universal LNB and not a quattro or wideband? Did you replace it exactly in the same position as the SKY Q LNB? Those are usually crimped and hard to undo the cables. Is it a quad LNB and where did you buy it. If you can’t get a strong signal on the 2 polarities Horizontal and Vertical box is not any use. Can you do a few pics of the dish, i.e. zoom in from ground.
    2. To setup box do the following:
    3. Change skin to simple ten eighty, menu setup user interface skin selection, select simple and ok gui restarts. It will become clear later why this skin is best for now.
    4. tuners, menu setup tunes scanning tuner setup A says single 28e, same for B, Saorview is ok. red.
    5. Menu setup epg settings long list grip epg, event info, media/hd, epg, no. no. enabled, yes, yes,no,no,yes, yes,no,yes, disabled, yes, yes, auto detect, arrow down page 2 auto detect yes off, green to save.
    6. now go to opentvepg downlaoder, enable, yes, astra 28.2, auto, update interval say 3 for now, pip for download yes. green, then exit
    7. menu setup user interface, channel election, alternative numbering mode yes, arrow all way down to end show picons yes green,
    8. menu setup tuners scanning autobouquetmaker configure schedule scan NO for now, then no
    9. , yes,no,none, bottom.yes, no for the rest. green.
    10. Providers, no no no saorview yes, region, woodcock hill, no, yes no,no,no.no. sky uk yes, region you have to toggle to London sd custom , fta only, yes, yes, yes, yes, swap channels yes, no
    11. hide sections, this is where you put a tick against those you dont want to appear, shopping adult, religion and so on the more you hide the better the end result will be.
    12. keep here you tick the bouquets you want to keep like the one you did for saorview, which you may delete later, you will have 2 for now but a learning point. green. exit.
    13. for security you need a password menu setup network, new password, press OK, keyboard, type in I use 4 chars, then over to return key marked green press ok and then green.
    14. Picons look nice so menu plugins green down to picons , select snp-full 220x 132-190x102. dark on reflection, it takes a while to download as its a big file, it may ask where to save say hdd. These are the correct size. exit

Box is now setup and almost ready. To get SSD and I hope it is an SSD and not a HDD from laptop etc. Do this, power off with remote. Now go to rear of box and press white button so it pops out. Now take out ssd, wait a few secs and then carefully push SSD back in until it can go no further, it takes a firm push.

    1. Power back on and wait and then go BBC1 or saorview so you have a channel.
    2. Menu setup vix mount manager and now you should see the SSD and the USB, now VIX is good in that it may have mounted them automatically and show as mount/media/hdd typr ext4 R/W. and same for USB but if not see blue button press that and wait. I then press green and then green and box will restart.
    3. menu setup storage settings hard disk standby as its an SSD no standby green.

You are done, here are a few pics that will show the look when you fix dish signal and run abm,

    a bouquets.

    b saorview.

    c epg

Thats it, the next post is to help align lnb.

To align dish and get signal you need to make sure lnb is fitted correctly and has the correct skew and focal length ie you may have to move lnb in or out to get best results. Here are 2 pics for skew and position on collar.

Use signal finder with true crime and when you get a signal make it look like this one

Now use CH4 and it should look like this

What you really want to see is the word LOCK then you know box has a signal that ensures it will decode channel. When you get the signal on True Crime you then have to check the Horizontal so choose CH4 Tighten up and get back to box. When you are on hoist you need a second person to watch box and tell you signal ie the SNR one or with a mobile use facetime and see result on your phone. If you are alone then that is very tricky, if box/tv is near dish select true crime on channel list turn up volume and see if you hear when found. Or if you have an android smartphone you could get dreamplayer and hook up to box via wi fi. When you download its self explanatory but be warned free version is riddled with ads, paid is 3.49. It wont show signal but only picture.

Run abm, when you do you may not get the list in same order as mine but I can show how to move. To move channels in bulk I use dreambox edit.

To flash new image you use internet and its called couch flashing, this is the process for future reference.

Menu, Setup, Vix, Image Manager, Yellow and that will show the images you can use but for now leave it and get good signal.

    Any Q's get back.
