More chance of Snipes at this stage. Mahershala's Blade is the new Tatum's Gambit.

I honestly thought that Blade was cancelled. Who knew…

The editing of that CA trailer is awful. Film might still be okay, but the trailer is basically just "stuff".

"Hey, this film has stuff in it"

That Captain America trailer is just so badly put together and is that the IDF agent I thought they would edit her out after the bit of backlash.

I think I read her role has been cut down a bit and pretty much all references to her being Israeli have been removed.

Still going to be a car crash of a press tour for the film if she's there...

Apparently there are more reshoots for Captain America 4, ahead of its February 25 release. I'm only half joking when I say that this entire production and the final budget needs to be audited.

Was watching some of these movies again recently. The CA trilogy is the strongest entry in the marvel stable, TWS probably the best standalone individual super hero movie in the franchise.

Asides from their silly experiments going all over the place , they’ve really missed Downey and Evans in particular who were just perfect leads for the character and the superhero’s.

I wonder will Downey now simply dominate the next avengers movies with the super hero’s really missing a lead. In fact, thinking that, they have to bring back Evans, unless they find a stronger new hero , they’d be mad not to offer Evans whatever he wants to rejoin. I mean him picking up Thors hammer was one of the most satisfying moments of the entire infinity saga. I absolutely loved CA ending, but I equally enjoyed Wolverines ending and wolvi came back!!

It sounds like RDJ and Tom Holland will be the leads of Doomsday from what I've read. Not much is known in terms of the full cast for that film yet.

Evans career hasn't exactly flourished since the MCU, offer him a truck full of money and everyone wins.

Evans' career was wonky AF before the MCU as well, though. Tbh bringing RDJ back already feels regressive in a risky way, doubling down on it y bringing Evans back too could easily fall flat and just end with people feeling like it undercuts or devalues the ending that both their characters got. Part of the problem the comics struggle with is a constant desire to go back to What People Knew Before, but people don't necessarily want the same story/characters again - they want new stories told well enough to have the same impact on them.

The recent deadpool would disagree with that sentiment. Rogue one (Vader) shows how to do it right and with class.

Audiences mostly want something familiar, maybe the people who say they want something new represent the minority or maybe some are simply saying it for the sake of saying it. Lightening in a bottle and new ideas are rare because it’s so hard to invent something new , original that will do well.

I love CA ending (with Peggy) and Wolverines “so this is how it feels”. They were absolutely perfect ways to leave the characters. But now we see eventually marvel will bring them back cause Disney don’t know how to handle the franchise.

The issue with your sentiments is that you can’t really expect a lot of new and original content in a franchise. There are few and far between examples of trilogies or franchises that can be pointed to that achieve this.

The issue is people’s expectations. Reality tells us that an alien or superhero or Star Wars movie will more than likely have a lot of nostalgic callbacks to older movies and will usually follow a formula that feels very familiar. Everybody should know this going to see one of these movies. And yet some people complain when the movies do what everybody expects them to do.

You can have high expectations all you want and you can complain about it every-time. But the truth is that this formula generally works and people mostly want familiar because the sequels and the franchises are made for this very purpose.

In my opinion they had two pretty decent prospects in phase 4 and they mismanaged them both. Simu Liu as Shang Chi and Iman Vellani as Miss Marvel. They'd never get to Evans and RDJ level but they'd keep things ticking along.

    This too shall pass.

DC have been upping their game. Penguin was superb.

Marvel doesn’t feel like it has a good baddy or a proper leader hero. Not sure if RDJ doomsday will work aswell as him as Ironman. Wolverine looks like the strongest hero character with the strongest actor behind it, professor X would be a natural one to bring back.

Thor has kind of been made into a bit of a funny hero but he’s been written as not a leader, he literally left his people so he didn’t have responsibility.

I really like TWS. It's a proper thriller wrapped up in a Marvel movie. As intended. Redford was picked for a reason.

Civil War was great too. Interesting baddie motive, ramifications for future movies and perfect introduction of new characters (compare with the awkward introduction of that Riri character in Black Panther 2). I DO find the bit where they all line up and run at each other a bit silly and designed for the cool trailer shot. The fight is cool but just them running at each other looks silly (IMHO of course)

I really like Iron Man 3 also but that's because that's basically a Shane Black movie again wrapped up in a Marvel movie.

No matter how much RDJ they throw into the next phase, I don't think they will reach the same heights as the previous peaks. I think FF4 and X-Men, if don't right, will give a major boost and so will RDJ and Holland and, of course, ALL of them together. They will do well but not eye watering money like the previous highs. And with costs getting so crazy high (250,000,000 for that Red One thing???!!!), there will be a lot of pressure on them so, when they DO come out, the promotion is going to be obscene.

I didn't know the comics and will defer to more knowledgeable people but RDJ back does smack of desperation. Even the reaction at comic Con was a little underwhelming. Yes, they cheered and roared but they SHOULD have brought down the Internet with reaction views and memes etc.

Like I said, I didn't know the comics but I know there a potential interesting arc and certainly a better arc than Krang.... I mean, Kang.

I think the next two movies will need to be huge

Chris Evans Returning To Marvel For ‘Avengers: Doomsday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,279 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

Just need Johansson to return now, maybe Clark Gregg and Hiddleston aswell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,039 ✭✭✭Dogsdodogsstuff

Probably the most predictable thing to be fair, they need strong characters/actors and strong roles. Surely won’t be human torch, that would be an absolute waste.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 37,048 ✭✭✭✭Penn

I'm more mixed on Evans coming back than RDJ.

At least with RDJ, he's playing a different character (or at least a different version of the same base character, likely some sort of alternate universe where Tony grew up as Victor Von Doom). That to me is interesting.

Whereas if they're just bringing Evans back to be Steve Rogers again, I think Sam will never truly have a chance to be seen as Captain America as he'll still be in Steve's shadow and it kind of damages Steve's ending of giving up the fight to have the kind of live worth living. Plus we know he survives it because he then returns to the original timeline as an old man.

Maybe they are going to do something new and different with him that'll make it worth it, but on the face of it this just seems lazy compared to what they're doing with RDJ.

If the rumors are to be believed he's coming back to play Captain Hydra a multiverse alternative nothing more.

Yeah I was thinking that. They did it in the comics a few years ago. Just not sure how good that would be if you have RDJ as Doctor Doom at the same time. Feels sort of redundant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,696 ✭✭✭The White Wolf

I'm not against it. If RDJ and Evans are really playing villains then it's the type of casting that will elevate everyone else in the cast. It gives Mackie something of depth to go up against in Evans.

Marvel have fluffed creating a compelling villain one too many times, so I don't blame them for taking another calculated risk here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,039 ✭✭✭Dogsdodogsstuff

Making RDJ bad isn’t really creative at all. The point of going back to these actors is that they are desperate and don’t seem to have a decent strategy.

They really are threatening to undermine the potential goodies. You just know Mackie will have to fight Evans, in what world does he beat an actual super serum CA? Are they gonna kryptonite the bad CA?

And who honestly cares about the current marvel superhero’s? None of them really have the charisma and leadership feels of Cap/IM. Part of the reason CW worked was because it felt right that the two leads of each group were indeed leaders.

When Thor, CA and Ironman fight Thanos, it had serious gravitas. When CA uses mlolnir, I mean that was just superb. There’s not one superhero (thors a bit of a joke) who has that sort of symmetry that stark and cap had so they better start figuring out who is gonna be the lead hero’s if it’s not Evans.

Potentially who can be the Lead hero ? Reed Richard’s ? Some x men ? Not really much time to build up from current stable and something tells me the new CA movie won’t make Mackie that guy. He’s not got the same charm and leader like feeling that Evans had. I actually like Mackie but don’t see the role he plays as strong as Original CA.

Ah. That makes "sense". I was with @Penn and thought it would have been a terribly unfair thing to do to Anthony Mackie.

I suppose this will open the floodgates for alternate versions of the rest of the initial actors: Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hiddleston etc.

But the most important thing: Will they all have Goatees (Or NOT one in RDJ case)? Otherwise, how are we supposed to know they are eeeeeeeeevillllll?
