It doesn't seem like though that immigration was the issue that swung it for Trump (despite all his noisy rhetoric on the subject). Exit polls showed that people were far more energised about the economy and inflation and that immigration was a key issue for only a relatively small number of voters.

During the Trump rallies, all the talk was about Donald Trump. During the Harris rallies, all the talk was about Donald Trump.

There are some who believe that all publicity is good publicity.

There should be a public investigation into the events surrounding Bidens obvious mental decline, and the lies they told the public about it.

It never fails to amaze me that Hubris will always kill the Democrats in the race to the WH.

Clinton was more or less coronated before a vote was cast, and now we had Biden with his obvious issues wanting to do the job for another 4 more years when the dogs on the street could see it themselves that he was not the same man!

As an aside, I remember clearly on this board that anyone who even dared ask a question about Biden and his cognitive decline was set upon by an army of posters"

"Are you his Doctor, you Nazi scum!!?"

That was the train of thought in that debate, so people stopped asking the question and the results are now self-evident. Trump is back in the WH!!

    Well done folks!

Apart from Twitter under Musk, the other platforms would be leaning Democrat, just look at who they contributed to in terms of Donor money.

Musk funnelled the campaign contributions through SpaceX.

    Twitter is politically neutral, remember?

The 130 million he donated dwarfs by some margin anything any other media company did. That's an investment though, he will get all that back in government contracts.

As for MSM, that is very much social media now.

When people rant and rave about MSM what I think they mean is the traditional news networks.

The biggest of these at national and local level is Fox, which is basically an unapologetic mouth piece for the Republican party.

I flicked between both Fox and CNN on election night, I had to stop watching Fox, it was beyond cringe. CNN were on point with contributors from both parties with actual journalists. Fox had 5 imbeciles, one of them calling themselves Judge fawning over Trump whilst just been juvenile towards Harris and everything Democratic.

I remember watching Fox 15-20 years and whilst they always leant into the Republican, they did actually have credible journalists who reported the news. It's beyond a clown show now.

Twitter has basically turned into a Trump Echo chamber.

So when some díckhead with a webcam who thinks they are the news complains about MSM, what they are actually complaining about is the lies they are peddling to fleece the terminally stupid are usually debunked by actual journalists.

There should be a public investigation into the events surrounding Bidens obvious mental decline, and the lies they told the public about it.

Trumps obvious mental decline is more obvious and impactful than Biden's, do you think the focus should on the guy leaving office, the guy about to enter it, or both?

"Are you his Doctor, you Nazi scum!!?"

I would say with close to absolute certainty, that this was never posted. Are you saying it was, or are you suggesting that that is what was implied?

Why don't you post a quote or a screenshot of what offended you instead of making stuff up to fight and win an argument about a make belief scenario?

But given your implication that the term Nazi scum is derogatory and insulting (it is, and rightly so), what do you think of a renowned piece of Nazi scum celebrating Trumps win? Is it more important to you to see 'The Lib's' disappointed than to seeing Nazi scum not having anything to celebrate?

On your point. The republicans are equally if not more so beholden to external donors and elites. They were just able to convince some people they weren't. I think its due to them just being more practiced at lying with confidence

Maybe you should read up on it.

If he didn't keep his promises, the first time around why would he now?

If he was actually concerned about immigration, why shoot down the bill, just because it would take away one of his few talking points before an election....?

    More border patrol agents

400+ % increase in asylum officers

    Increase ICE detention facilities

    More immigration judges

Only limited illegal migration to a still unacceptable level 🙄 just for the record, what is the acceptable level?

Any money to Ukraine is irrelevant to the border.

I'm sure you will be providing a legitimate source for an amnesty to the illegals already in America.

Same PAC was running to conflicting adds in Michigan. One saying look what Kamala Harris is letting Israel do to the Palestinians, and the second saying look at the lack of support she is giving to Israel in dealing with the Palestinians. They are absolutely shameless and have no principles whatsoever.

When discussing Nazi scum, did the Richard Spencer endorsement of Harris feature?

Don't look too closely at his businesses! He hasn't been "winning" there "all his life".

Correction: They couldn't get the lid closed until he was 98!

I don’t disagree with any of your points or Marks above. And your right, Harris was a weakness as a candidate in being relatively unknown to the electorate was further exacerbated by her not doing along of interviews, podcasts or shows.

But my main point is more Republican’s are doing a better job at communicating their message in a modern and online world. I just think the old days of having a good ground game and platform on MSM are slowly dying. They are not dead obviously, but most people get their information online now, and there is a much larger presence of right wing influencers online than there is left wing. Just look at the huge gains Trump is making with young people, they are not sitting down at night to watch Jake Tapper, Rachel Maddow, they are watching the Adin Ross’, Benny Johnson’s, etc. It’s a big problem now for the Democrats and it’s definitely partially their own making in not getting out and supporting online left wing shows like Republicans do.

Reading a lot of comments now from people whose family/friends/colleagues voted for Trump. So many anecdotes about people who believe that gas prices will shoot down as soon as Trump enters office, that the price of e.g. strawberries will suddenly drop.

As myself and many have pointed out, sorry but there is a thick vein of intense stupidity in the US. Trump knows how to not only reach these people, but convince them of all sorts of things.

Democrats are going to have to step back and stop believing all sorts of notions about Americans if they want to combat this new level of populism and manipulation.

    Ah ok.

Grand, don't change and stay the same, sure George Clooney knows what the average Joe in the swing states wants…

    No one suggested he does.

What that has got to do with over emotive hyperbole I have no idea.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,313 ✭✭✭✭markodaly

This is true, but the 2016 election was meant to be a Clinton vs Jebb Bush showdown.

That was until Donald Trump showed up. Remember people thought he was a joke candidate?

He is now one of the most successful politicians in US history..

Trump remade the Republican party. It was the party of Free Trade, Neo-Con foreign policy, and Business and Country Club types. Dare I say it the party of the elite.

Now it's firmly the party of the working class, not just whites, but also Latinos with increasing support from blacks, especially black men.

well said. The anti fascists behaving like fascists when anyone questioned Bidens capacities these past 4 years are a massive reason we have Trump back.
It needed leadership from msm or within the DNC a long time ago.
After the debate in June the way they now suddenly noticed this cognitive decline was the coup de gras. If you are gonna beat and take on a liar do it from a place of honesty

Personally, I think one illegal immigrant is too many.

He has the house, senate and the presidency so there is no hiding if he does a bad job now. He can't blame that he has been hamstrung.

I said I was open to correction… perhaps there was no amnesty included in the bill. I maybe misremembered something I was told. I wouldn't say that money to Ukraine would be irrelevant if it was part of a bill. Anyway, I'm not qualified to, nor do I want to, enter a in-depth discussion about the bill.

All I said is that I hope (note the word hope) that he does a decent job. I guess that is a contentious thing to say.

    Wanst an issue?

Young people voting in greater numbers for Trump?

Arab Americans deserted the Democrats in record numbers as well.

It was certainly a headwind for Harris.

Just seen a stat for Texas where the biggest winner was abstaining. 33% for Trump, 21% for Harris but 41% abstained. I assumed the other 5% was for other candidates and spoiled votes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 42,509 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

Foreign Policy came in at roughly 3% in the exit polls.

The reality is the vast majority of Americans couldn't give a flying fúck what happens outside their county let alone a country they are never going to leave anyway.

What absolute turgid nonsense are you posting?

Trump is vehemently anti-union and had little union support for this election. He is famous for underpaying workers.

You can't just day the Republican Party is the party of the working class and not be called out on it.

Now, a lot of working class people support Trump, but that doesn't mean he supports them. There is little to no evidence that he does.

    2016  Clinton    65,853,514

    2020  Biden     81,283,501

    2024  Harris      67,927,989

Looks like we have seen the 2016 outcome for the Democrats again.

I actually pity the USA if these two are the best two candidates in a population of over 300 million.

Also wondering where the GOP will go next, assuming Donald doesn't try repeal the 22nd amendment. JD?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,313 ✭✭✭✭markodaly

    Yeap.

Harris made the campaign a referendum on Trump.

Even in her interviews, any question asked was, "But Donald Trump!"

    A terrible candidate.

Will Walz be returning to his teaching job now?

Better to tell lies to them about what's causing their problems and sell them easy nonsensical solutions instead👍️

No one is doubting there are real issues affecting large numbers of people who voted for Trump. These issues are generally attributable to the republican doner and Super-PAC class though and not the 2 trans who compete in high school swimming because a local administrator decided to allow it, or immigrants eating cats, or tariffs making China pay!

Could see a scenario where a jealous Trump denies a Vance endorsement. Might still end up having a GOP primary for 2028.
