……. Yep that response sums it up …I’ll wait.

Your move …do you want this?

    I agree with you.

As I just said in the election thread most of the fanatical posters who were constantly trying to shout down others and shut discussion down are in hiding today. Its actually civil in there.

These posters constantly abused, baited, trolled and shouted down any opposing views to the detriment of debate.

Its refreshing to see how civil and constructive the discussion can be when a few bad actors are removed from the mix.

The cynic in me thinks whilst this is great, I get the suspicion these posters will be back again engaging in their usual antics, after they have licked their wounds.

However I hope and believe the new mods will be wise to their ways and see their agenda for what it really is.

calling it out is the only way to shut it down

I thought today of all days they'd give the perma victimhood a rest and be happy.

It's not about 'winning', it's about being right. They're two very different things...

It's about giving feedback, pointing out where things may be going wrong or improvements could be made.

An example I posted before about where the percieved bias may be coming from: a poster calls Biden 'the big fella', gets warned and banned. Another poster calls Musk 'Eloon', no warning, no ban...

I think the reason for this, and I may be wrong, is that one side is more inclined to report every little thing, the other side not so much, so while each 'side' does get hit with warnings, the breadth of posts being reported, and hence actioned, is more diverse on one side of the debate than the other

“It's not about 'winning', it's about being right. They're two very different things...”

Just to be perfectly clear - this has nothing to do with who lost/won / “right” is perceptive - I’m not interested in that either-but it’s everything to do with fair sense of play - I’m watching the Harris speech now- I’d still criticise even this speech - but fair play she’s committed to a peaceful transfer of power - she’s made good points - unlike Trump 4 years ago

Eloon I get as a dig at his antics.

Biden as the big fella - Ive no idea what that means. Sounds like some sort of conspiracy theory dog whistle.

There can be multiple reasons why certain phrasings are banned and not others.

While the thread, and forum in general, may have been moderated; at one stage warnings were being handed out 3 days after the fact.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,605 ✭✭✭Quantum Erasure

Ok, but calling Kamala 'Camel' was another one, I mean it could be a far right dog whistle, but im not sure how

If thats on the Harris v Biden thread there is a detailed mod warning in the OP about derogatory nicknames for the candidates. Musk isnt technically a candidate.

If you chucked out similar at Trump or Vance you would definitely run risk of sanction on that thread.

Also if its buried in a long post it may not be picked up on. A one liner containing it more likely to be spotted.

In soccer theres specific rules about managers nicknames and loaded labels etc. Not sure if that protection would extend to eg someone adjacent. Doesnt de-rail thread to same extent if at all.

@Big Bag of Chips I know there have been several warnings about discussing reported posts….but I going to risk it for a biscuit😃

I don't think this angle or question was discussed, and a simple yes, no or not possible, would be good.

One of the requests I have seen from the MOD team, is don't respond on thread, or react to certain posts, but to report and let the MODs deal with it, which I fully agree with, and have always taken this advice after my only warning I received…😇

The weakness I have seen, on some posts I have reported, is you never know when the MOD has viewed your report and decided no action is needed. (If action is taken it's normally visable on the thread). And sometimes this may take time so you have no idea if it will be a few hours, a day or more.

This is also fine, but at some point if the Mod decides no action is needed, then the reporter of the post should maybe get feedback and can then reply/challenge the post in the thread at that point, in a respectful manner of course.

I have also followed up on reports, when a thread completely derailed, and asked the MOD (via PM) did they see my previous reports, that could have helped, and they have said no (A few days later). It was missed or lost or something not sure.

So can a reporter of a post know, if it has been seen, and any actions or not closed? Even if just an auto-reply with closed?

I’m not talking about “Nick-names” for candidates btw- I’m talking about abuse of posters providing their views- I’ve no interest in the above argument just so we’re clear

Mods like referees in sports will not always agree with the posters who have reported posts. I'm not sure the point is of posters writing essays about how they are right will change anything.

thats what all these threads are people complaining they didnt get the echo chamber they want and can't cope with any alternatives.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,605 ✭✭✭Quantum Erasure

who's looking for an echo chamber? who got the wokism threads shut down? I never really looked at the Trump thread or posted in it, but it seemed to be exclusively populated by anti-Trump posters, the X / Twitter thread the same (anti Musk in this case)…

“Abuse” which is what I said- is certainly a mod actionable post.

“I’m talking about abuse of posters

And as you've been told repeatedly it is actioned and always has been. Like the "pile on" nonsense. You claiming abuse doesnt actuallymake it abuse.

Calling people rapist sympathisers in the election thread wasn’t actioned until I called it out - that is abuse - so clearly you are incorrect

I don't believe that this happened though. There was a previous feedback/helpdesk thread and it was a pretty obvious demand for censorship of the other side.

This thread is reminding me of the Father Ted Christmas special where, instead of enjoying his award, he just goes through a list of grudges.

Enjoying Award? What are you on about?

And your mention of censorship is in the realm of conspiracy theories.

The only conspiracy theory I see here is the censorship one the Trump supporters or moderate centrists who don't support Trump or whatever their moniker of choice is keep desperately trotting out.

If you have never really looked at the trump thread, how would you know who "seemed" it was exclusively populated by?

sorry but I’ve had months of this conspiracy nonsense -,I’m not listening to it anymore- you’re obviously deflecting the abuse of posters and your justification for doing so, with this absolute rubbish - I’m done listening to it.

You say the Trump-Harris thread is dominated by anti-Trump posters but also that you never go into it. You've contradicted your own point and undermined your own credibility in the process.

Eh I’ve never said I don’t go into the Harris Trump thread- I’ve been posting there for months - I’ve also never said the thread was “dominated by anti-Trump posters”- I said it was toxic - again you seem to be ascribing me as some sort of “Trump supporter” - not the first time posters have done that to anyone who criticised Harris and you’re just coming across as ridiculous the more you try - posters issue with the thread up to polling day was that no criticism of the Harris campaign was tolerated and the levels of abuse were off the charts -thankfully as we can see now it’s overrun with people giving their views on Harris and her campaign - I suppose they’re all “Trump supporters” too

shouting “abuse” doesn’t make it abuse.

I reckon if someone had spoken to you like you just spoke to ancap you’d report it as abuse. I hope that demonstrates the issue for you: it’s not one of abuse it’s one of personal bias.
