Tried that numerous times using different server addresses on ASUS router, support was totally useless.

I put the UK DNS into one of the TVs and it's working perfectly. Pure Telecom seem to change my IP an awful lot which is very annoying I never had that with VM I think I had the same IP for the whole year of the contract. It's €100 for a static IP with Pure, not really worth it tbh.

Hi,would anybody know how to set up get flix on a zyxel router i got from Pure telecom, thanks in advance

Anyone having issues with BBC Sounds?

Getflix working for the most part but BBC seem to have deployed extra protection on live sports on 5 live, so I'm getting the not available on this channel message during matches now

I've always had issues with Live sports comms on the BBC tbh, its hit and miss, same as Talksport also, happens on Getflix and with VPN's connected also. Yet iplayer would still work when I get these issues

anyone using getflix dns on sky broadband?

i recently switched to sky and dns stopped working

i was told sky use transparent proxy which prevents using dns proxy server

    looking for suggestions

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,854 ✭✭✭Raoul

I don't have any suggestions for you. But I'm using it no bother.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 540 ✭✭✭Enrico Palazzo

I suppose you may have seen this already and it's not an option for you, but just in case: bypass-transparent-dns-proxy-with-a-dd-wrt-router

looks like its just me then…i suppose you use dns feature not vpn feature to watch on your tv or streaming device

now, i am getting dns test failure too on the accounts homepage

i have emailed the support stating its not sky blocking their service.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,504 ✭✭✭ongarite

dns test failure is normal unless you are running their server as the dns on device you check the website.
first thing to do is update your ip address on the dashboard. Even it is looks correct, your can fix issues with updating IP.
im using DNS on TV & VPN on Chromecast without any issues.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,947 ✭✭✭bittihuduga

yes updated the ip few times, i have dns on Firesticks and sony tv

    not working at all.

i changed the wifi to my mobile hotspot and they work again

so i am assuming something with sky broadband

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,703 ✭✭✭savemejebus

Did you check in the stky router settings if the router is trying to force Sky's DNS on you. I think vodafone boxes used do that and you had to manually switch the setting off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,947 ✭✭✭bittihuduga

    i dont use sky router.

i connected the fibre ont to my own router - unifi dream machine.

run a direct lookup on the DNS server using dig. If you have a mac or linux device just open a terminal window. Not sure about windows, you may need to download something.

dig without specifying a DNS server (will use whatever DNS the PC is configured with whether manual or DHCP):

    dig www.bbc.co.uk

    ; <<>> DiG 9.10.6 <<>> www.bbc.co.uk
    ;; global options: +cmd
    ;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 51605
;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 3, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 1

    ;; WHEN: Mon Nov 04 16:01:22 GMT 2024
    ;; MSG SIZE rcvd: 122

dig specifying DNS server (using SmartDNSProxy's Irish DNS, probably the same IP for Getflix):

    dig @54.229.171.243 www.bbc.co.uk

    ; <<>> DiG 9.10.6 <<>> @54.229.171.243 www.bbc.co.uk

I don't know if you'll be able to see if Sky are proxying your DNS traffic in the "SERVER:" line - it should match the IP you've specified, but they have have some way of masking it.

Either way if you're specifically querying the Getflix DNS server and it's giving back the same answer as Sky's DNS then it's possible that Sky are monkeying around with your DNS requests.

thanks for the details..looks like server is same as ip specified. so not sure if sky are doing anything

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,604 ✭✭✭✭loyatemu

It's not the same answer I got running the same query off the Smart DNS server though, so something is happening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,947 ✭✭✭bittihuduga

sorry that was through getflix dns. yes i see your output is simple where as mine has a lot of hops i think.

i got the same output as my getflix when i ran it on smartdnsproxy.

I got the same responses as loyatemu, 109.176.28.23 was the connecting server for BBC - that's through smartdnsproxy, on a network different from sky. Even when running the dig through the getflix/smartdns DNS from an IP not registered in smartdnsproxy's dashboard, the response still differed from that where no DNS was specified, as an AWS server came up in the answer, I suppose that's where smartdnsproxy route not authorised queries.

Wha???? What's happened to this thread?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,604 ✭✭✭✭loyatemu

Getflix/Smart have a VPN service as well and some of the nodes have SmartDNS built in (i.e. you can VPN to say the UK, but it will still use the SmartDNS to allow you access US services). This might get around Sky's proxying assuming whatever device you use can run the VPN.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,947 ✭✭✭bittihuduga

if i dont get sorted with dns then i have to try vpn. although its not clean as vpn apps for smartdns / getflix are for android mobile not tv or for firetv (mouse toggle issue) thanks again for the help and sorry for making it a tech support ticket than getflix deals thread

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,504 ✭✭✭ongarite

There is a Getflix Android TV VPN app. Works fine on the Chromecast Google TV with remote only.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,604 ✭✭✭✭loyatemu

there's also a SmartDNSProxy app for the Firestick so I'd imagine there's one for Getflix as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,947 ✭✭✭bittihuduga

i think they dont have their own but they refer to openvpn. thanks

also thanks will look into getflix android tv app

update: installed openvpn on my UDM router. some apps work now (although v slow) and some dont work (shows vpn detected message)
