One of the aspects I hate about my Model Y is the lack of parking sensors. I'm sure I'll receive opposing comments but TeslaVision is utter crap despite the many updates it received. Night time accuracy is atrocious, daytime is still crap, particularly the front area. Parking sensors gave a nice degree of comfort in my previous cars and never failed me. TV was a terrible product decision in my opinion. I would happily pay extra for parking sensors, radar, and a rain sensor.

I agree the space in the Model Y is amazing, if they just added the items I mentioned above, it would be a perfect car.

I wish Polestar improved their warranty terms to match Tesla.

Do you mean that 0% is available if you go and ask?

Their pricing is all over the place too

    232 SRSM 33,995

    241 SRSM 34,495

    242 SRSM 34,995

Same spec as far as I can see, so 500 depreciation in 6m, pretty optimistic

I think some have slightly different mileage? They all seem to be the most basic spec with the 19" wheels which is why I bought privately instead

232 yes, the 24? seem to be delivery mileage.

You bought the one in Bantry yes? How's it going for you, had half an eye on that on myself, but timing was wrong for me.

Yep it's absolute class to be honest! Immaculate condition inside and out and the plus pack had the few goodies I wanted as well as the 20" pro wheels which I think are one of the best looking wheels on any car around at the moment. Long range also great to have. A family member has the dual motor which would have been the icing on the cake but I'm delighted with mine.

I agree on the plus pack, a must have for me. Those wheels suit that colour, not sure on the darker colour cars though tbh. Have to admit I have a hankering for the DM too, just have to wait till the right one, at the right price, surfaces. A lot of the P2s around at the moment are at ambitious prices I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,508 ✭✭✭Nigzcurran

I think the plus pack being so expensive on a P2 is a bit of a joke and should all come as standard with maybe the pano roof being an optional extra. The my23 that are for sale in spirit should probably be about €5k less now that the my25 is available. The Tesla M3 coming down so much in price lately will steal a lot of potential polestar customers when they look at the price difference in my opinion

I don't think the plus pack was bad value to be fair. There's quite a lot in it. But no doubt some should really have been standard across the board

    • Heatpump
    • Full electric seats, who ever thought the manual back rest was a good idea?
    • Storage nets on the back of the front seats (seems so petty).

I'd completely agree with your €5k price difference for the Spirit cars and also that Polestar do need to do some price adjustment after Tesla's cut

They are worth so little that I think it's hard to price anything from a 231 to a 242. They are obviously suffering EV depreciation but I also think they are still suffering startup depreciation. I'm almost two year into a 4 year PCP. It's the best car I've owned but worst car financially. There's no chance I will be able to change it early. The car is worth a lot less than what I owe on it.

I hear your pain, but I think the relative rarity here is helping the prices a bit. If you apply the same type of depreciation being seen in the UK market, for example, the prices here are 20-25% inflated

I still think my 231 is worth about 25k to a dealer. That's being optimistic. 4 years is a long aul PCP and I think my GTV is around 16.5k so it will be interesting to see if there is any equity in the car in 2 more years.

If the brand lasts, I don't think a new P2 will be released in Ireland at that point but I'd consider a P4 if it drops in price which it probably will.

Hope the brand does last, the P2 is a nice car, but the P3 and P4 are stunning machines, if expensive.

They are nice cars but probably have a better chance of surviving if they were rebranded and taken into Volvo directly as an expansion to their EV lineup. Buying an expensive car online or out of a portacabin in Dublin for example isn’t for everyone.

It hasn't hindered Tesla too badly and spirit motors seem to be taking over a lot of polestar sales now so probably be a hybrid of online/forecourt sales

Absolutely but Tesla is a more established brand and has an enviable reputation as an EV manufacturer. Polestar have a long way to go to become another Tesla. I think if Spirit were nationwide like MSL, if would have a better chance. It seems to have given BYD a great foothold here from the start. Geely were probably foolish not to leverage the Volvo Dealer Network here to make Polestar an early success.

To be honest, Polestar’s way of selling cars is much better than the traditional dealership model. I say that from experience. You test drive the car in Dublin, go home, and put a small refundable deposit on an available car online without all the dealer nonsense. There’s no need to spec a Polestar from scratch. Finance Ireland/Polestar Finance is super easy to deal with and very flexible. The guy I dealt with was great. The car was ready to pick up in less than two weeks and no-one tried to sell me life shine, rubber mats, insurance on top of your car insurance or a "delivery fee." What you see online is what you pay.

Volvo isn’t likely to buy back Polestar. If the brand continues to struggle, Geely might either drop it or shift its focus to the Chinese market, similar to what MG did when they faced challenges in Europe. Interestingly, MG has since made a strong comeback.

I’m sure the experience is fine especially if you’re not trading in a car but Polestar sales are dismal for 2024 so far. By comparison there were a lot more Volvo EV’s sold in the same period.

They'd be in top 5 surely?

Sales are small all right and worse, how many of them are pre-regs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,508 ✭✭✭Nigzcurran

Yep I see now the list starts at number 6. Thought cupra would be a lot higher

Cupra only have 1 car in the fight if that's a listing of EVs sold.

Has anyone outside or Dublin had any warranty issues? I've had two and they've been an absolute nightmare to deal with. Multiple visits to their local service centre who are completely uninterested, Polestar support are utterly useless. First issue took 5 months or me chasing to sort out (a replacement alloy so not something complicated). The second issue is being finally sorted next week (again after 5 months of chasing).

I'm sure it you're living near Dublin it's just like any other visit but without proper after sales support it's hard to recommend them. My wife's car is up for replacement and we had thought logically that a 4 might fit the bill if we pushed the budget (or even another 2 given the value) but I wouldn't consider giving this company another penny if I can avoid it due to after sales.

I had no issue trading my car into Spirit. The handover for the Polestar was also done in the Land rover showroom.

Yes, it's no surprise sales have been dismal. I wonder will they pull out of Ireland first. Such a shame because the cars are good..

Family member had a problem with some paint and they came out anf dropped a loaner off and took his car away for a few days and dropped it back when finished so that was pretty decent. Was in Dublin

My handover was in Land Rover too 😁. I called into the showrooms back in July to check out the P3 and P4 when my 2 was in for a service. The facilities have improved a bit and both cars are a step up in design and quality from the 2. A new dedicated Showroom & workshop was (probably still is) under construction about 200metres from the shipping containers so, there is a plan in place. Hopefully, in about 2.5 years I can trade the 2 in for a 2nd hand P3.

What problems did you have? Did they want you to head to Dublin and that wasn't possible for you?

Was told use the local Volvo dealer.

One wheel had a bad previous repair and they said they'd eventually replace it.

Inside a poorly fitted rear light the seam sealer had paint flaking off it then. So inside the light cavity it looked like there was paint flaking basically. I was more worried about that but it's easily sorted.

Small things but I wouldn't trust a major problem to be rectified if they take 5 months on a minor one on two separate occasions.
