Things either aren't rosy or O Neill can't see them making another all ireland because very few walk away from a team that made it to an all ireland.

Either way, the setup is too negative, not sure if that's on O Neill or Joyce but it's pure muck to watch. I can't see anyone playing within that system actually enjoying it and the only way they justify it to themselves is the belief it'll bring them an all ireland. So by that logic every year will be a failure bar the ones you win all irelands. Hopefully they bring in a coach that actually wants to play football.

A few years ago a promising hurler from East Clare, Darragh or Dara Whelan, transferred to Castlegar. I thought that he had the making of a very good club player but lost touch with his progress in Galway. Could any Galway club supporter throw any light on whether he's still playing and if so is he playing well.

Was Jason Sherlock in with Westmeath?

I think he was involved with Dublin at some stage of their big years? If so, if it's an outsider, it needs to be someone with very good pedigree.

I doubt there was a falling out that caused O'Neill to leave. Wasn't he driving up from Cork? I was afraid he'd go in 2022, but the commute was surely an issue, and he probably thought he can't do better than 2 finals in 3 years.

Be great to see a serious coaching ticket for next year. But I'd be pessimistic if Concannon stays as forwards coach, the word coach there not meaning a whole lot really.

I think all bar Finnerty are nailed on. He was very good against Mayo and Donegal. I can't recall another standout match. Maybe he will get one. To be honest I'd have Gleeson in ahead of him. Galway won't get 6 All Stars so they'd be my 5.

I guess there's bias in me saying Conroy has to get footballer of the year but both him and Maher were better in general in more matches than McCambridge. Can't say he kept Walsh quiet in the final when you see how crocked Walsh was on the frees. Conroy has to get it. Scored an amount of points from big distances in a good few matches.

Football and hurling finals going to Tuam and Athenry respectively as lights going in to Pearse.

Not sure why the CB is ignoring the general public and continuing to invest in a stadium that is almost universally hated within the county and also outside it. For everyone in the country bar a few clubs in the west board it's a nightmare to access, not to mention the weather nightmare. Half a million being sunk in to lights that can only be used a handful of times a year. I can't see any sense in it, but common sense wouldn't be a string trait of our CB.

quick q. In regard to the senior B hurling championship in Galway. Is it only the winner of the final that gets promoted to Senior A?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 301 ✭✭KAMG

Yes. Mullagh beat Ahascragh/Fohenagh in last years final.

It was great to see Galway football back in its ancestral home of Tuam today. The New stand looks great aswell. Congratulations to corofin.

The stand is a joke, there’s no cover in it. Not sure how that design got signed off.

Ya have played down there since, half uncovered, money wasted

Sice must be the greatest club player we've produced in my lifetime. Couldn't happen to a sounder fella either, especially after his hardships.

good god. Is it really that bad?
so essentially, if you are not in a decent seat, you will get wet.

Havent been there yet but from talking to others that there at semis they refused for yesterday as said May as well be on far terrace as the stand for what cover you get. Said it must have been designed by a group of TY students.

Disappointing that when they go to such costs to refurb a " stadium" that they could get it so wrong. Questions have been asked on who designed it or what they had done previously.

Bad n all that pearse stadium is to get into and how cold it is there you at least know that you'll get cover if you going for league game there in pissing rain.

I was there a few weeks ago at cortoon v st micheals match . We were about 12 rows up in the stand and got soaked . I was putting it down to maybe an unusual breeze or something but looking and talking to others who been there since it’s just a botch job. Can we do anything right !

if you are not in the last couple of rows in the centre of the stand you’re getting wet. I’ve no idea what they were thinking when they were designing it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,123 ✭✭✭manofwisdom

Same with a lot of stands even Croke Park on a wet day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 902 ✭✭✭MattressRick

Obviously caused by the height and elevation of the roof. You'd imagine at this stage in a western county there'd be design info on the proper elevation of a roof to provide shelter.

Croker alright doesn't necessarily provide cover in the double letter rows. When you're in the corner and it's wet, the roof is a mile away in the sky to prevent rain.

One big gripe I have with the stand in Tuam from watching on TV is why is Gaillimh not on the seats?

I understand the money the O'Tooles put in, but Joe O'Tooles name is written across the top of the stand. It was self indulgent of the family to let it be put on the seats. They developed Tuam to try and get county matches back there, but why in the name of God did they do that to the stand? No other county ground has that. It's just stupid.

There's very few stands in the country without poles that protect from the elements. There'd be significantly more people complaining about poles blocking views (myself included) than getting drenched, believe me.

The seating is more for folk that can't stand for long durations than keeping folk dry. It was a generous donation from the O'Tooles but people can't expect a top class redeveloped stand for their donation. Connacht are building a two tier stand for the guts of €9m and most in that stand will still be open to the elements.
