There would be an element of schadenfreude watching people who voted for Trump get shafted, but sadly the baleful consequences would impact too many innocents.

That will be a great watch. I wonder will Harris appear as rumoured?

I think if he has one on then he will have the other… he has repeatedly turned down Trump as a guest

Trump is cancelling interviews left right and centre.

I wouldn't assume he will turn up.

Re polls, a few things to consider.

MAGA have a vested interest in gathering positive polling data. The reasons are twofold.

Firstly, they want to project a position of strength. Secondly, the more positive the data, the more it will enable them to claim fraud.

Conversely, the Dems favour weaker polling data, so it drives turnout.

I'd say he'll definitely prioritise Rogan. Somewhere he can talk as much as he wants about Arnold Palmer's d*ck and have it not be something that goes against the tone of the show or audience.

    A leader!?!?!?!

    You can completely delusional.

The only thing he will lead is his own people into WW3.

Business and politics? get up the yard. He doesn't know a thing about either of them.

how about a true poll that reflects reality- I don’t suppose there’s one of those out there? Then either side can do whatever they feel necessary -

if polls are being manipulated then they’re being manipulated on both sides - so essentially ignore all

Saw a great one earlier, not mine so I cant take credit.

your inability to spell “shenanigans” is baffling.

But that aside, are you claiming votes were printed to fix the election? “Printers go brrrr”?

Nah if America decides to ride the Trump train again they should expect no sympathy for the consequences. They know what they are signing up to this time so they can enjoy it.

Giuliani ordered to give over his $6M penthouse to the Georgia election workers he defamed in 2020, Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss.

Hopefully that's a chilling lesson to the MAGA election workers who have embedded themselves in the process this cycle, and to Trump's current lawyers.

Trump's strategy appears to be pretty consistent the last while - shun traditional media while going heavy on the podcasts that males 18-35 listen to in their droves. It shouldn't be any surprise that he's going on Rogan, then, two weeks before the election. Whether it works is another matter, but Harris needs to confirm herself a date on that show as well, and she'd better do it quick. It's particularly critical for her to appear since Rogan appears to be leaning towards Trump anyway and is unlikely to challenge him on the points he makes, so she'll want to get on there and push back on some of the asinine claims Trump is almost certain to make.

I mentioned here a couple of weeks back how I listen to and enjoy a podcast from Anthony Scaramucci and Katty Kay called The Rest is Politics US.

The produced 4 episodes relating to 2016 called 'How Trump won the White House'. Given how Scaramucci was involved on the Trump campaign at the time, he gives a lot of insight about events and personalities behind the scenes and talks about Trump himself.

I listened to episode 3 at the weekend and it struck me how much fell in his favour in the final run in to the election. There was the access Hollywood tape that was thought to have harmed him, but turned out it didn't. But Hillary at a lot of things that ebbed away at her chances. The Benghazi senate hearings the year before the election, her low favorability at the outset even, her not campaigning in key states, the furore over her emails, her basket of deplorables comment, her fainting at the 9/11 memorial and in the final days before the election James Comey announcing the FBI was reopening the investigation in to her emails.

All of these were massive momentum shifts in Trumps favour. In 2020, it was an election fought very significantly on the public mood around Covid and to a lesser degree on the BLM protests. This was evident in the increase in turnout on that election. There was the Hunter Biden laptop BS but I don't know did that actually sway many people because of the public mood around Covid.

This time, so far, Harris has had nothing like the knock backs that Hillary suffered and Trump by comparison has appeared jaded, old, and much less focused than he was in the past. If Trump wins this, it's going to say so much about how the American electorate is simultaneously disconnected from and entrenched with the political conversation.

Surprised Trump hasn't arranged a collab with Andrew Tate yet.

Maybe it’s a tipping point of some kind within American culture - “something” is annoying a lot of Americans - I’ve no idea what and certainly very few posters here have given any indication either - and I haven’t read any article online that can explain it .

In the meantime, Donald Trump serves chips and everyone gets worked up over it - it’s bizzare.

It seems like in America, once you get over a certain level of wealth or influence, these kinds of judgements against a person just take f_king forever to collect on. How much money has E Jean Carroll collected from Trump so far? When will Infowars actually be sold off to pay damages? Endless procedures, processes and appeals…

Yes, it reminds me of A Civil Action. Don't watch A Civil Action unless you like depression.

I definitely think this is the case, but as you said, it's still not straightforward.

I would go so far to say that a lot of people who are annoyed, don't know why they are annoyed. It is a fact that a lot of America is struggling and for a lot of people, they are of a generation where they cannot reasonably expect to have a better standard of living than what their parents had.

But, the crowds outside Trump rallies are talking about Woke culture, and socialists/communists, immigrants and giving Ukraine and Israel tens of billions.

In reality, the US capitalist infrastructure, very ably facilitated by those in congress for at least 30+ years. The NAFTA trade agreement signed in 1993 apparently led to 67,000 US companies relocating to Mexico, the minimum federal wage would be twenty something dollars today if it matched inflation from where it was at in the 70's and the cost of housing and education has ballooned many times above the rate of inflation also.

One of the most interesting thing looking at US political culture is that the thing that a lot of conservatives need, better access to education, jobs, healthcare etc, they vehemently push back against the idea of the Government helping provide those things. And again this brings us back to Trump and how nothing (ABSOLUTELY NOTHING) that he did in his professional career is the sort of thing that would genuinely help these communities that are looking for help.

And the rest of us can see just how left leaning most Democrats are also (not very) America is firmly in the grasp of Corporations and is actively fighting against the people most likely to help change that. It continues to be very interesting.

It will dominate the news cycle over the weekend. I wonder if Kamala will roll out Liz Cheney again as the antidote.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,031 ✭✭✭✭Tell me how

Kamala already had her moment on a very popular podcast. The 'Call her Daddy' one from like 3 weeks ago.

Trump is going on Joe Rogan to talk to the same people who go to his rallies. You'll tell us it was awesome, we'll continue to be underwhelmed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,048 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

Harris didn't roll out Cheney. Cheney came out for Harris because she has seen the evidence of the threat that Trump is to democracy.

Unlike with Trump, who has openly acknowledged that he will repay Elon for his support, Harris has offered nothing to the likes of Cheney.

Trump is only going on Rogan because he knows he can rattle off his usual nonsense without being called out on any of it.

Wouldn't a real leader be looking to talk to those that don't agree with him rather than always running away?

South Carolina crushed its previous 1st day early voting record.

The previous record was 2022, about 70,100 people voted on the 1st day.

Yesterday I and about 125,900 others voted.

Hey, it's not a very populated state.

Anyway also, early voting in Texas is way up this year.

North Carolina started early voting last week and they're over 1 million people who have voted in person.

This may sound silly but are you talking paper into the ballot box or by mail-in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,016 ✭✭✭✭briany

I often listen to Joe Rogan and I certainly wouldn't be inclined to support Trump in any way. He has a pretty diverse range of guests on. He has some rubbish political takes and seems easily influenced, though, but this is why it would be good for Harris to appear and challenge some questions or points he raises if he wanted to dig in. Like, it would be interesting to her response to this claim he made when interviewing Shane Smith about the Democrats wanting No ID voting in order to allow illegal immigrants to vote for them.

The only thing I'm taking from early voting tallies is that the turnout is going to be huge in this election.

This time round, way more Republicans are voting early than in any previous election so If they make up a significant portion of the early voters, and still lead voters on election day, then Harris will be in trouble.
