He's a current Senator. I'm trying to understand how you think a persons lesser contribution to a political party gives him a free pass from a serious crime.

I'm not in any way trying to defend that by the way. Does politics attract more "characters" than would be typical in other walks of life or is it just the extra scrutiny they are under which unearths stuff like this? 🤔

    Interesting editing there Francie...

Here's the next bit of the transcript..

MMcD: Well they’re not officials. They’re members of the party.

I find it interesting that they invite 2 party members and no one, as far as we know, from SF HR department.

I've just looked him up and wasn't aware he was nominated to the Seanad. He shouldn't have been.

The point is it doesn't matter because all of this is a coordinated campaign (long since in the making) to target SF (as they should be targeted where required) whilst FF/FG get off scot free with a general election approaching.

SF will lose the GE based on their policies/weak leadership and not because Fionnan Sheehan has wrote another boring article in the Indo or because RTE have recevied another €750m of taxpayers money from FF/FG.

MLMcD thought there was room on the political spectrum for another party like FF/FG/Lab/SD/PBP on the serious issues of the day (immigration and woke politics). It turns out she's discovering that an opposition cannot succeed in a general election by agreeing with every policy of the government.

All the other stuff is just gossip and an irrelevance.

On a sidenote, the government need to be calling an election straight away, they have an open goal to be re-elected with this mess that SF find themselves in.

That would be unwise. They are just waiting for this to play out. There's another few days of media frenzy over this.

If an election was called the media would drop this.

Again, I can only go on what was said,
Carthy said he assumed he would be standing again. He was only appointed to DoE last week.

There really is some cadre of weirdos online who are obsessed with the twix story - to the point of having to invent exaggerations to what happened.

McGahan getting into a brawl outside a pub is a much more serious matter, and he should be long gone from FG and from national politics.

That said - there’s folk still in the Dail in other parties who have significantly more serious convictions than McGahan

Why would anyone have a legal responsibility to report a criminal compliant when the person it effects has no interest? That makes no sense at all. Still, no doubt the Garda will commence and investigation in that issue ASAP though.

Also, the legislation you pointed to makes no reference about an individual against who the crime was committed or their legal team being exempt from it either. BS clearly has a case to answer if what you said is true.

Up at the crease early today Mr B.

I wonder when we find out what the allegations were? Morning Ireland now saying it was referred to the Gardai due "an abundance of caution" which doesn't sound as serious.

It's SF, The media wouldn't drop this for love nor money. It's fairly obvious a lot of the print media despise SF. This scandal couldn't have come at a worse time.

as the saying goes “ If you have a reputation for getting up early you can stay in bed all day”.
SO , just because SF says that it has all the processes/committees in place to handle all relevant issues to them that may arise DOES NOT MEAN that they are operated in an OPEN, BALANCED, TRANSPARENT and FAIR way - especially when it is SF that is saying it.
MLMD made it very, very, very clear on radio yesterday that the party has the above processes/committees in place

So let's say SF put their hands up and say 'we need to change how we do these things and be like everyone else'.
How do they do disciplinary hearings. Let's take for example the the party of our current Taoiseach.

I look up McGahon's disciplinary hearing…oh wait, there wasn't one.

I looked up Leo Varadkar's disiplinary hearing for committing serious wrongdoing….can't find one.

I look up Maria Bailey's one (One was held) and find:

We don’t have the full facts on her disciplinary hearing.

We don’t know who conducted it. Or who was there

We don’t know what was said.

We don’t know what the process was

And the final report was never made public.

    Can anyone help here?
    What do other parties do?
Surely this is a comparison to 'the right way to do it'?

So what is the right way, can you or anyone else point me to another political parties transparent process?

Same question for you as I asked blackwhite above ^^^^

I am perplexed by the following. In the normal course of discussion between two people - and ESPECIALLY between two very SENIOR TDs’ of the same party - if one of them made a very brief comment of a serious nature I would expect that person to proffer sufficient information so that the person he/she is talking to has a basic understanding as to what the issue is. Why would he/she just say that there is a complaint made against me AND LEAVE IT AT THAT. So , I assume that when BS informed MLMD of the complaint on July 27 last that he told her all he knew about it.

Likewise, if MLMD was not clear or felt that she needed to know more/ seek some clarification re the July 27 th meeting that she would have BS there and then. And IMO - because of the seniority of the two - following on from the meeting that one or both would have further discussions later ‘after having carried out ‘discrete enquiries’ as to what is going on.

One would expect the above to be the case in normal circumstances. All of the above - according to MLMD- , apparently did not happen as MLMD was saying up to yesterday that she still does not know what the complaint is about
There is a term that is used - especially in the war / political spheres called Communication through back channels. It normally happens completely off radar. I am sure that SF is aware of the concept !!!!!!!

Nobody knows as the Sinn Fein disciplinary procedures are secret and hidden.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 9,887 ✭✭✭blackwhite

You mean the incidents that were investigated by the proper authorities in each case for the first two?
No sign of any party - except SF - trying to circumvent the law enforcement authorities of this state and instead running a kangaroo court process to keep matters away from the Gardai (until of course it becomes public, and then they finally do the right thing and report it).

Bailey’s hearing was conducted without anyone coming away afterwards claiming they’d been subjected to a kangaroo court with a predetermined outcome.

We’ve had Mary Lou tell barefaced lies on RTE yesterday about when she was made aware of the latest scandal - and the best Francie can do is deflect deflect deflect. You’ve done an amazing job of shredding any tiny hint of credibility that you ever had.

I can feel the pain, it is always someone else's fault that Sinn Fein are in trouble, the dreadful FF/FG made us fill our ranks with paedophiles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,857 ✭✭✭Field east

through ‘back channels’ via MLMD. These channels are normally carried out completely off the radar so it’s very safe to ‘talk away’ - and as long as there is nothing in writing or audio / video recorded.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,195 ✭✭✭✭blanch152

Oh, you really have twisted my words. I never said anyone was unfairly sacrificed. What I said was that a cult will sacrifice anyone for the cult, and that includes those who are both fairly and unfairly sacrificed.

The cult must be suffering if I am getting targetted with misleading comments like that.

As David Ervine said many years ago "They don't like it when the serve is returned".

If the shoe was on the other foot Louise would be roaring into any available microphone calling for resignations, votes of no confidence, recall of the Dail etc etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78,779 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

Can you point to a transparent disciplinary process used by another political party?

It's a very simple basic request.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,970 ✭✭✭StrawbsM

I’m talking in general terms really. If I’m called up in front of a disciplinary panel in the morning would I be advised who the panel members are in advance of that meeting?
We already know that BS was allowed bring representation with him so did he bring a barrister as that is what he would be facing?
I’m aware that bringing someone with you (if you want) is normal procedure for any working environment. What is new to me is having barristers there. Maureen from the legal department or your solicitor I get but the ones that wear the wigs ????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,629 ✭✭✭Augme

The only one suffering seems to be you, you're all over the place. "The cult will sacrifice anyone for the cult even if they deserve to be sacrificed but I'll still criticise them for sacrificing someone that deserved to be sacrificed."

It's great that you can take a sensible, rational and logical approach to all of this Blanch. 😂 you're cult like dedication to all of this is impressive Blanch, credit to you on that one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,596 ✭✭✭spillit67

@FrancieBrady and @Augme will have some more waffle about that which contradicts an earlier statement.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,195 ✭✭✭✭blanch152

The one thing I cannot be accused of is confused thinking.

I wasn't criticising them for sacrificing someone that deserved to be sacrificed, just pointing out their nature.

Sinn Fein is a cult, when you see them through that lens, all of their behaviour becomes understandable. Doesn't affect whether individual actions are wrong or right, just that you understand how the SF cult mind works.

That was pretty clear from my post before you got muddled up.

I'm not sure I can spend too much more time trying to simplify things for you tbh.
