The guy arrested outside the Trump rally has been charged with " two misdemeanour weapons charges"

Also ,according to the BBC report

    https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c4gqyezwj7lo

"Multiple passports with multiple names and multiple driving licences were found in the car, the sheriff said, adding that the licence plate was "home-made" and not registered"

    https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c4gqyezwj7lo

This is pretty crazy but just seems normal now.

    What is going on here?

Again the sheriff is saying he had no plans to harm Trump. That seems to ring a bell as Trump had the same line on Jan 6 as he tried to give his gun carrying supporters a free pass to the White House.

Was this guy there to protect Trump or maybe to look for anyone who looked out of place? He is a "certified" Trump supporter.

Doing a vigilante act and a sign of things to come on and around election day ?

From my reading of reports, that is my read of the situation. Someone who has a deep distrust of Federal agencies, is a supporter of Trump, and took it upon himself to be a protector of Trump should something happen. Possibly thinks the last "assassination" attempt was organised by the Secret Service.

That's the thing about the whole rhetroric of "The best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun". How are you meant to tell who the good guys with the guns are, and what happens when a bad guy with a gun thinks he's the good guy with a gun?"

Yea. The tact now will be to not respond or comment on who he believes might be "controlling" her.

This question will not be acknowledged or addressed because the answer is the same for who he believes the "Deep State" are.

Either he doesn't actually know, or what he believes would look very very bad for his credibility.

His connections to the whole "Sovereign citizen" nonsense makes it a little less clear.

They seems to dislike if not hate ALL Government so hard to be certain of his full motives.

If nothing else he is another indicator of how far trust and facts have fallen in value in the US of late.

You have people in peril refusing help because they've been convinced that the Government will take all their property if they accept

You have others that are actively seeking to attack Rescue workers because they've been told they are a threat.

And now you likely have people turning up with Guns to political events because they've been convinced that the Government cannot be trusted.

It's hard to see how that trust in the "system" ever gets restored , regardless of the outcome of the Election.

Speaking of gun nutjobs: Seeing reports FEMA had to withdraw from several disaster areas prematurely due to credible threats on their lives, fomented by MAGA hoaxes like “FEMA is taking your land” etc.

You would think at minimum the author of Hillbilly Elegy would not be trying to feed into the paranoid delusions of the Appalachian people but rather be encouraging them to get every ounce of help they’re entitled to receive?

The Youtube algorithim has videos about these "Sovereign citizens" all over my feed. I sense that the whole "Sov-Cit" portion of the US population sits well within MAGA circle of the Venn Diagram.

These are people who, just like MAGA, buy into any online lie and will treat it as fact…or at least treat it as a useful lie that they can repeat. So instead of people who pretend that the rules of things like elections don't apply to them, you'll get a gaggle of wonderful folk who believe that everyday laws (usually traffic laws) do not apply to them because they are somehow special. Be it because they've been introduced to a BS interpretation of US law or in some more interesting cases they'll claim not be normal citizens of the US. That's where the whole "sovereign" thing comes from, some of them claim to either belong to another fictional state and are exampt, are citizens of the "United States Republic" which means nothing, or are just a "Man of the Land" and not subject to state laws. Essentially above the law…because reasons…

The core theme that these people share with MAGA (and many tend to also be MAGA) is this sense that they don't have to consider their impact on others, and that laws are just for other people to abide by. Just like Flat Earthers and Anti-Vaxxers, Donnie's Wonderful World of MAGA encourages all kinds of stupid in grown adults that might have gotten you a Section-8 some decades ago.

It's some of the silliest stuff. I think it really took off because early on into the sovcit movement's popularity there are some videos of them bamboozling cops and judges who just don't even know how to react to the sheer stupidity of it. But that time has long come and gone. No you can't just get out of traffic violations by rephrasing your driving as "traveling" kiddos.

it’s bizarre that you attack her for this while completely ignoring the fact that Trump was the worst president in history.

She is clearly the best candidate left in this race. Given the way it went with Biden she was probably the best choice to step in.

It’s a 2 horse race and it isn’t even close who is most suitable to be POTUS. You can’t abstractly measure her suitability. It’s her v Trump.

Apparently some states, for example Florida, has gotten so sick of SovCits that if one of them produces of binder of papers (Psudo-legal BS) to a Trooper instead of a Driving Licence that the Trooper will, in very short order, smash their window in and drag them from the traveller’s driver’s seat.

Similarly in court, increasingly judges have been swift at shooting down and holding these people in contempt when they start messing about and pretending that they have a magic psudo-legal Get Out of Jail card that they somehow think will work.

Much like MAGA, evidence that this way of life is generally useless and destructive is still being ignored, and much like MAGA might take some years to get this level of stupidity out of America’s systems.

Decided by using DEI (not merit) as their guide ;-) , its getting good now, her polling is starting to collapse i.e. reverting to reality but it kept the donors paying up…..

Where is her polling "collapsing" exactly?

It's a close race as it has been since she initially rapidly closed and surpassed the gap to Trump that was there under Biden.

But there is no evidence of a "collapse" anywhere.

The latest NYT/Siena (the highest rated pollster out there) polling shows her in the lead Nationally and in multiple swing States , especially PA.

Harris interview with Fox on Wednesday

So now Harris is even appearing for an interview with Fox. Where she will undoubtedly be challenged on many of her answers and probably have the interview cut and chopped to bits in an unflattering way.

So what do our centrists think now? Do Trumps excuses for avoiding everything except softball interviews now still hold?

Or can we finally admit that Trump is terrified of having his insane waffle actually be challenged in some meaningful way? That his team are keeping him away from any situation where he might metaphorically sh*t the bed again like he did in the debate.

Say what you like about Harris. But she now objectively has more cojones than Trump does.

Kamala is forced to do an interview like this on Fox because she has no other choice. Desperate times require desperate measures. She's losing ground in the race

There is no strategic value for Trump to do any interviews now.

I actually don’t believe she was a DEI pick. Mainly because she was the sitting Veep. But again you love to dodge the point I’m making. There was nothing “undemocratic” about here being chosen as a candidate. No one ran against her.

Her polling isn’t “starting to collapse”. It’s always been a coin flip.

It’s pretty funny how you seagull this thread and refuse to engage in honest debate.

Most of the polls have Harris and Trump neck and neck in the swing states within the margin of error. And honestly I don't really put much faith in the polls.

But even if I did that's still not an excuse for Trump being afraid of another debate or not giving an interview with a less pandering network.

In addition what use is an interview that will almost certainly put her in an unfriendly light if she's struggling so desperately?

There is no strategic value for Trump to do any interviews now.

Then why is he still doing them on Fox? As recently as yesterday. Doesn't seem like your reasons hold up to any basic scrutiny.

No, I think he's just scared. Much simpler explanation.

In an apparently resurfaced video that is doing the rounds again, JD Vance can be seen trying to figure out the wonders of information technology:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/TrumpIsWeird/comments/1g25dkj/jd_vance_lacks_basic_problemsolving_skills/

In the video he is seen setting up for a webcam stream but notices his broadcast image is mirrored, so the text on his 'JD Vance' sign, is unreadable.

To try and address this problem he…

… he rotates the camera 180 degrees so he is upside down, and the text is still mirrored.

This is the man that wants to be one heartbeat away from the Presidency.

I think incidents like this go to show that all things considered, Sarah Palin spoofing about not reading the newspapers might be far less disqualifying than anyone originally thought. I'd be very concerned with his ability to critically think if he were left in charge of anything in government more important than setting up a Zoom meeting.

What about when Harris was avoiding interviews like the plague and Trump was doing loads of them who was the coward then ?

    The double standards are unreal.

Speaking of interviews why wont she do one with Time magazine ?

Maybe they wont edit it like 60 minutes when she coughs up a word salad.

The reason she is doing more interviews now is because she has to.

    https://www.axios.com/2024/09/19/harris-media-strategy-hide-election

Her strategy was to avoid as many tough interviews as possible as she was leading in the polls, run the clock down so to speak.

Her campaign team have admitted this, its not a secret.

Harris' team believes limiting interactions with the press is the right strategy — even if it frustrates reporters, some close to the campaign told Axios.

As of Sept 19th Harris had been a candidate for 59 days and Walz for 44 days

During those 59 days, Republicans Donald Trump and JD Vance participated in more than 70 interviews and press conferences with TV and print reporters while Harris and Walz have took part in seven, according to an Axios analysis.

Vance alone has participated in more than seven times more interviews and press conferences than Harris and Walz combined during that time.

Trump and Vance's 25-plus interviews during the time period with conservative commentators on Fox News, Newsmax, The New York Post, and other outlets weren't included.

You mean when 60 minutes released the full interview online but have an edited version for airing due to air time constraints like they do for all of their interviews? Are you really clinging to that?

Or how most people on here said that Harris would start doing interviews as she wound down the whirlwind sellout events around the country? And how trump was dictating his own questions from Mar-a-lago or cutting interviews short and slinking away when he was exposed?

You can't have it both ways and expect to be credible, Harris is talking to the press and being a lot more forthcoming than her opponent and not running away from a head to head debate. Of the 2 candidates, Harris is way ahead on every level, but do say where you think trump is coming out on top.

(I'd imagine Benioff's statement is mostly self-serving to get publicity for Time)

Actually a double standard is when you constantly refuse to acknowledge that Trump’s “word salads” are much worse than those from Harris.

I don’t think she’s a great public speaker, but she is 5 leagues above Trump. Can you not acknowledge that at least?

Trump can still play golf most of the day, do some Fox interview as it does not cost him, he probably tries to screw a fee out of them, someone has to pay for his lawyers and he sure ain't going to pay costs for a rally, which most of the donor money was intented for.

What’s interesting about those figures is that Trump hasn’t actually done that many more interviews then Harris because Vance is out there doing lots of them - but it’s nice spin for Trump to make it sound like he’s doing more than he actually is.

And it seems petty to complain about Harris not doing interviews when she is doing them now? I don’t have an issue with her not doing them for a while when she got the nomination - she’s had a comparatively short campaign so taking some time to get her message and policy clear before being interviewed makes sense.

Trump, by comparison, has been the de facto nominee for over a year and is a former president. He should have his policy down and ready to be challenged and should be out there defending it and letting the American public know why he’s better for them.

But he’s not, because he can’t. He has no policy to speak of, when challenged on anything he gets offended, calls the journalists mean or nasty and says they should have their licenses taken away. I mean, surely anyone can see that that behaviour is completely pathetic. He has all the conviction of a toddler.

Kamala is going to do an interview on Fox. However that turns out or however biased they are against her, it will at least show she’s far more prepared for the job than he is by talking to people across the political spectrum about why she’s the best candidate, and she’s ready for challenging interviews. It is craven and weak by Trump that he cannot match that.

It's not that exciting tbh, she entered the race late so she intentionally timed when she started doing interviews.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,725 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

Actually, he's not allowed back on the golf until the election is over.

He wanted heightened security from the USSS - and well, they're giving it to him, including forbidding golf.

"Trump was told that federal agents could not ensure his safety to a degree that they were comfortable with if he were to play. The concerns were conveyed in two conversations with Trump since the September incident: one with Ronald Rowe, the acting director of the Secret Service, and the other with officials from the national intelligence director’s office." How has he normalised it? If that isn't sarcasm, then I probably can't help. And, talking about fake tan, and you conflate that with whatever you are attempting to relate it with. It is entirely bizarre that he walks around covered in fake tan in a circle around his face.
