He has a gold plated toilet and claims to be the man of the people. He has Chinese sourced bibles that he is flogging to his base while he tells them he will bring back American jobs. He claims to support the working man but is against Unions and overtime. He thinks applying tarriffs on Chinese goods will help deal with inflation. His wife wanted CNN to pay 250K to interview her about her book. He told people in 2016 he'd have a healthcare plan ready to go on day 1, 8 yrs later, he says he has the concept of a healthcare plan. He claims to know more about nuclear, wind and solar energy than anyone else but thought he could disrupt a hurricane with a nuclear bomb. He said Covid would fade away to nothing and that he deserved an A+ for how he handled it as several hundred thousand Americans died from it. He paid to rig electronic votes in order to try win an online competition for businessman of the year but he says he demands election integrity. He claims to have won many Golf competitions and hit holes in one at his golf courses while appearing to be a below average golfer, at best.

hmmmmm….its an interesting take on things. I don’t think Obama will influence the swing voters in the swing states that’s for sure - they’re predominantly white , not particularly well educated snd low income - on that element, I think you’re right - he’s not going to turn these voters as a group.

To win, Harris needs a strong ethnic vote and also a strong female vote, and in terms of the female vote, she needs to impress both democrats, and young female republicans-

I’m not sure anyone other than Harris can influence these voters at this point - whilst Obama would have been criticised had he not come out and supported Harris and did his “bit”, I don’t think we’ll see any significant rise in polls. Maybe if he just sticks to the message “get out and vote” it will help, but his “speeches” are just too high brow for the swing voters.

And it's criminal that this is the case. Trump bankrupted several businesses (including a casino) and yet I've seen so many people suggest that because he was a business man, he'd handle that better. The tariff conversations further underline how wrong a view this is.

The fact that people objectively think he would be better for the economy is just a sign of where the US is at in terms of real world knowledge and awareness of the facts around the people and practices and their effects in government. Political messaging and communication is so short term with respect to messaging and attention. It would like asking a teacher to teach their class by walking up and down the corridor and shouting at their students who are sitting in the room as the teacher walks past the door.

He claims to know more about absolutely anything than anyone else. Except Project 2025, and anyone who claims he sexually assaulted them.

In 2016, when Trump won, I told a friend I was worried because I said he would lower the tone of what was expected from one of the worlds leaders.

And he did that, and then some.

And I lived in the US for a number of years during and After his Presidency and I saw the impact of this shift in tone. And we saw it massively influence UK politics indirectly in recent years in the manner of how the implementation of Brexit was carried out with a similar 'feelings over facts' approach to policy, and that has had serious impacts. Not to mention the impact that he had on the role of experts in handling a Pandemic, an impact in shifting mindsets that has been felt worldwide, including Ireland. Also, in Ireland, Peter Casey would never have been part of the conversation but for Trump, and he added nothing of value to the conversations he was involved in.

And during his term he actively pushed back any steps (few as they were) towards tackling the influencing factors on Climate change and it could well take a generation to make up the lost ground in this respect.

I don't know how anyone could have objectively looked at his term and come to the conclusion that more of that wouldn't be an issue.

His attacks on renewable energy.

His attacks on climate science.

The USA should be leading, not rolling back environmental protections.

and also….theyre in an incredible position to lead the world in renewable energy - it’s one way to defeat China and other massively polluting countries - build it yourself at “home” in an eco way instead of dumping your pollution on another country - feeding China economically is the worst thing the western world can do right now
