    Good gig. Pot-pot are totally in my wheelhouse. Elaine Malone on Harmonium, not sure if she always plays with them. Her album Pyrrhic is worth checking out. Melts were grand, as usual with them some songs held my attention more than others. Really thought they would have made more use of the video screen behind them. A missed opportunity on the visuals front.

    Biggest revelation of the night for me was discovering that A Place To Bury Strangers had played the Grand Social on Friday night and i knew nothing about it. Didn't see it mentioned anywhere. Dave Gahan's daughter Stella Rose was supporting them. I'm f#cking furious about it tbh!!! 🤬😥

    What an incredible gig again tonight. Another deep dive from a very relaxed Costello. Tonight it ran to 2 and a half hours + Well worth the trip from Donegal 🛣️

    She was out the back having a smoke with Eoin from Melts when I was heading off. I complimented them on their magnificence. Pôt Pot were also in the crowd for Melts, had a quick word with the guitarist, lovely fella. You don't get that stuff with the big gigs. People who don't go near the small venues really are missing out.

    We were surrounded by the bands family it seems. Decent gig. Loads of potential there. Bit samey though if Im being uber critical. Im also not a huge fan of this new Irish vocal style. Fontaines, Melts etc.

    Band sounded great though. Enjoyed it.

    And yeah, baffling how people dont bother with smaller venues.

    17 quid. You'd swear nights like that are from a bygone era when listening to some of the dynamic pricing commentary. They're happening practically every night in Dublin.

    Yeah he's definitely upped the 'Oirishness' in his vocals. To their detriment i would say.

    Dandys / Angels for me later. Really hoping each act gets at least 75 minutes.

    The Nick Lowe gig in the NCH really was incredible, but was it not a bit short? Started at 9pm and finished at 10.15. I appreciate that he was clearly under the weather (and I'd much rather 75 minutes of quality to 3 hours of dross, obviously), but I felt there could have been another 2 or 3 songs. Great night in general though, loved the encore especially

    Anyone at Melts last night - did you catch the smell of the lad with the biblical BO? **** me. Baffling how his mates wouldn't have had a word.

    If he showered in the last week which I doubt, then he has an immediate medical issue that needs looking at.

    The Dandy Warhols / The Black Angels in the Academy was a solid nights entertainment. Had the added bonus of a short Miranda Lee Richards support slot. Would've preferred her with a band as some of her solo material is decent, although i wouldn't be into all of it. Pleasant enough set anyway. The Black Angels played 70 minutes and took the honours for tonight imo. Seen them better and worse but they hit the sweet spot a few times. Dandys next up and, i dunno, it felt kind of flat. Mentioned something about not having their own equipment with them. I don't know if they meant everything or bits of it. It wasn't bad but they never really caught fire. Only 65 minutes from them and definitely one of their less impressive shows but like i say, it wasn't bad. They certainly had the crowd behind them. Zia still a fox and Courtney still has a punchable face!. Spotted a couple of Thumper boys in attendance up on the balcony taking notes.

    Very enjoyable evening but yeah, Black Angels far better.

    Dandys had to restart 3 tunes I think. A good few very obvious omissions aswell.

    The Go Team rocked the button factory last night. Really infectious energy from them all. The crowd was well up for it. A great balm to the terrible weather.

    Was in the Ally Pally Theatre on Friday. 1500 capacity in one of the best spaces I've ever been for a show. Dark Star Orchestra utter bliss - realise they're a niche buzz but don't snooze on this room. Incred.

    Melts not as good as Picnic.

    Black Angels sublime. Dandy's reliably shambolic. Did anyone catch Zia's dj set?

    In the minority here, but I really enjoyed The Dandy Warhols. Maybe it is the familiarity with their material, but I always have a good time at their concerts. Only 2 songs from their latest album Rockmaker - I would have liked more as I think it's their best album in 15-20 years, but between the songs from the first two, newly reissued, first albums and the "hits" from Urban Bohemia, there is only so many songs you can fit in in 70 minutes.

    Not as familiar with The Black Angels - I only started listening to them in preparation for this gig. I thought they were very good. Their drummer is like the perfect metronome, keeping everyone in perfect rhythm. Their sound was much "fuller" (for lack of a better word) compared to The Dandys after them.

    Overall really enjoyable evening and at 50 euro I thought it was good value for money.

    I'm standing well back here but I went to the last night of Elvis Costello last night and I can only say it was truly awful. 2 of my party left their seats very early; I stayed until 20 mins from the end and could take no more.

    It was billed as Elvis and Steve but at no point did I see mention that The Brodsky Quartet would be on stage and in a totally overwhelming fashion dominate about 75% of the material…

    I've seen him a few times before with his full band and really enjoyed, he's one of my musical heroes and I'm well familiar with most of his material but why was a collaborator who featured on precisely 1 of his 20 odd past albums allowed so much prominence…ok bring them on for a couple of numbers maybe…in my view they ruined most of his great songs…

    That actually sounds interesting to me. I can see from the setlist that they played quite a few songs from The Juliet Letters, which I consider a great album.

    Have to admit think I've only listened to it once but my complaint is they featured heavily on classics such as New Lace Sleeves, Long Honeymoon and can you believe Shipbuilding…IMO their showboating style is totally unsuited to such material; Elvis and Steve on the piano alone could have been sublime…
