It’s seriously questionable if it did - at very best it went sideways. Busby also said he was on his feet when he very clearly wasn’t. He’s pretty lucky because that was a definite yellow if called.

The two Murphys have been outstanding. Munster very rusty. Long way to go though, good game for the neutrals.

Probably the best half of rugby from a Connacht halfback pairing in a long time. Similarly impressed with Josh Murphy and also Darragh Murray.

Funny enough I thought there was lots of phases where we looked a bit lost and not sure which direction to play, particularly during that spell on the Munster 5m line towards the end of the half. However we've also been extremely incisive at times.

Defence a bit of a mixed bag, some good linespeed and hits closer to the ruck but looking a bit ragged from 13 out, with some poor reads and defenders even turning their back to the ball carrier. Tom Farrell is having a bit of a field day when he gets any bit of space.

Encouraging performance overall, set piece looking decent too despite the relative lack of scrums.

Alright Connacht, you have my attention 😆 Ready to be hurt again

Silly by heff but was late clear out on him then too so turning the peno over was maybe a bit harsh. Lead to the try then as well to make it worse

Pleasantly surprised by the both of them.

Ioane is going to be a game changer this season.

Wish they would spread it a bit wider at times near the try line. If you just pick and go near the ruck there's a high chance you'll just end up held up.

Two obvious forward passes there in that Munster attack - Hodnett in field to Daly and then Daly to Haley.

Jaysus we've gotten away with a couple there.

    Uh Oh Cordero down injured.

Bad mistake, Blade. Didn't need to do that after Murphy played so well.

Killer. Ioane fails to find touch in the corner. Connacht denied great field position.

ah jesus, missed touch there is the worst mistake you can make

Has Carty been coaching Ioane? Unforgivable missed touch.

Very frustrating that. Game was there for them to win. Come away with a losing BP and Try BP but still annoying.

Ioane looks very sharp but seems to have some of the same issues as Jack. Line kicks and goal kicking looked a bit ropey. Last one was a killer but I suppose Burns missed 2 in 1st half for them

    Ioane giveth, Ioane taketh away.

If Connacht can bring that energy to every game (a big "if" knowing this Wilkins coached team) they'll be tough to knock down

Despite the fact that I would have been happy with two points beforehand that one is tough to take. To be fair to the coaches we looked well prepared, but some really poor individual moments were the difference in the end. Ioane was very good but that was so poor at the end. We only needed 3 to win it, he didn't need to go for broke.

Plenty of green shoots but a familiar feeling at full time nonetheless.

Have to back thay performance up. We've seen lots of big performances in inter pros and then shocking performances all season.

On paper two points away against last year's league top of the table is nothing to sniff at, but I thought we deserved to edge that today.

Thought the ref was pretty good overall but anyone know if they looked at the burns challenge on Ioane as he made the pass to Murphy for the try at the end of the first half? Looked a clear yellow to me.

The two Murphys both had huge impacts today, gives some real hope for the season ahead.…but still feels like 3 points dropped :(

Disingenuous or idiotic. Strong words. Silly actually. We have a squad of 40 fit players, the 7 chosen will be delighted to get the opportunity to impress national team management, so a little more measured talk from you please.

It will be great if they can back up this performance. We have seen inklings of this before, but next week will be key.

Also surprised the tackle on Ioane when passing for the try didn't warrant a review

We brought a decent game plan, we executed pretty well, played most of the rugby but ultimately came up a little short.

A lot of attacking positives matched by defensive frailties. Some excellent line speed but our scramble was poor when they managed to get outside us.

I thought Murphy had a great game, good passer, quick to the base and good support lines, looked a big step up on Reilly. Between Devine and Murphy Blade will need to be on form. Bar the knock on he looked sharp tonight as well.

Ioane looked like a baller, not a fan of the big high punts for touch but a pretty good debut.

Mack was class, Forde played like a seasoned international and I liked piers.

A little more composure on the line and when chasing the result in the last 10.

I think this was a missed opportunity for a rare win down there but lots of positives to take from it.

Even though he is not playing for us anymore I still have a soft spot for Tom Farrell, like a few others I'm sure i was disappointed to hear he was being let go last season.

Thought he looked very sharp in attack yesterday and had some nice offloads as always. Showed he has plenty left to offer anyway

On a similar note, good to see Tadgh McElroy has been picked up by Ulster on a short term deal, was a good player for us who is well able to play at URC level.

Gavin Thornbury has been given a deal by Northampton according to his social page. Hopefully he can stay fit and get back to near his best

Saw this on the Northampton website:

Locks Will Spencer and Gavin Thornbury have both joined Northampton Saints on short-term contracts.

Spencer, 32, and Thornbury, 30, have linked-up with the men in Black, Green and Gold to provide injury cover for the first few months of the 2024/25 season.

With Thornbury making the short-term switch to Northampton, Saints Director of Rugby [Phil] Dowson is looking forward to having the former Ireland Under-20s and Irish Wolfhounds lock in the mix.

He said: “Gavin comes to us on a short-term deal, and has already thrown himself into things here at Saints.

“Gavin’s got a great knowledge of the game, he’s an experienced player and very highly thought of – you have to be to get close to that Ireland set-up as a lock.

“He has been unlucky with injuries over his career, but we felt we could give Gavin the space to contribute something while he’s here in Northampton, and we’re looking forward to seeing how he goes.”
