Yeah, but Trump's got Kid Rock & Michael Flynn. So, you know, 50/50…

I'm going to guess that regardless of result, being a Trump sycophant is going to be her main meal-ticket. This seems to be the case for many who delve too deeply into the MAGA Sinkhole of Logic. Your entire political identiy is forever linked to Donnie and any gainful attention left to you are amoung the Truth Social / Rumble using, Trump-NFT purchasing, MAGA-hat donning, knuckle-dragging simpletons who now fill the ranks of Donnie's "political" "movement".

There's no really good way out after that. In the hopeful senario of Trump losing & after whatever abhorrent thing he'll try to do to steal power, you're going to find a slew of human debris clinging onto the sinking remains of the GOP's Titanic, screaming out of their love of the Dear Leader while the icy waters of irrelivancy inch closer as the days and months pass.

If we are living in the "good" reality, I hope to witness that decay in the future. My popcorn subscription will need renewal.

    @odyssey06

Did this happen in 2016 or 2020? Surely this sort of thing must start hitting into Trump's support?

Doubt it. Trump supporters support Trump because of Trump. Former or current Republicans who choose instead to endorse Harris really only solidify their theory of "The Uniparty"

It seems to me that the Harris campaign must focus principally on convincing potential Democratic voters to actually go and do so.

PA is well populated. It took a couple of days last time, especially since the mail-ins didn't get counted until after the polls closed. PA result will not be early alas.

One early result on the night which might prove interesting is North Carolina. It's now a toss up and might actually go to Harris. Without North Carolina, a lot of Donnie's paths to 270 are cut down severly. By then he'd have to win nearly all of the swing states, and although that's not impossible, it's not very likely either.

This analogy wont be liked by some but the behaviour of some of Trumps supporters in what might be the dying days of his campaign reads like the scenario actually played out in the dying days of another leaders years 80-odd years ago, of the faithful calling out their loyalty to him while facing the ultimate insult; of being thrown under the wheels of the bus on his orders [because they betrayed him].

Some of the "loyalists" are merely there to enable themselves to gifts from his table.

It's not just Trump loyalists/MAGA heads though, virtually the entire right-conservative 45% of the American population seems to have stayed rock-solid behind Trump since his first presidential run. These 'establishment figures' coming out for Harris seem to be barely registering at a grassroots level AFAICS.

It seems to me that the Harris campaign must focus principally on convincing potential Democratic voters to actually go and do so.

I've been thinking that for a while. After all both HRC & Biden seemed to be machine -tooled to appeal to the centre ground, including moderate Republicans notionally repelled by Trump's antics. It didn't succeed with Hillary and only barely did with Biden, and that with a massive helping hand from covid. And given who she is, I'm afraid Harris will ultimately struggle to even match her prededecessors' centrist appeal…

Different level of security for presidents and former residents.

Trump already got more agents assigned to him before the assassination attempts, probably because he is such a polarizing figure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,758 ✭✭✭weisses

That would be logical if/when going by the republican/maga narrative driven for a good while.

You can not state he is to old, has dementia, forgets things etc and then act surprised when he allegedly takes more time off.

Also , as President, Biden simply wouldn't be allowed to just decide to go to a Public Golf-course to play with only a few hours notice.

Every single moment of the Presidents schedule is planned weeks in advance.

Back in 1995 , Clinton came to Ireland and visited where I worked as part of the trip.

There were US security people onsite for several weeks in advance , welding shut man-holes and putting up temporary fencing that removed line of sight views from a Housing estate that sort of overlooked the Main entrance to the building.

As I was someone who had an access card that allowed me to go anywhere 24/7 because I was on-call IT support, I had to be interviewed and my access was restricted to minimum levels during the visit.

Not only that, but "vacation" generally means "not at the White House or on official trips". So Biden's "vacations" were generally back in either his home or beach property in Delaware.

Average number of vacation days per year by Biden: 68

Average number of vacation days per year by Trump during his Presidency: 95

Both Bush's were also circa 130 days per year on average.

As a result of vacation time of presidents being public knowledge, there is no actual way to spin the numbers of various presidents. Aside from using Trumps own tactic of just lying and hoping no-one will fact check it.

    According to:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_vacations

Biden averages 68 days a year

Trump averaged 95 days a year

    Obama, 41

    George W Bush averaged 128.

I had a chuckle at Bill Clinton averaging 22-43. I thought, If I was getting oral sex in the Oval, I might not go on holiday very often either. 😋

A trump supporter pointing out Bidens number of vacation days is, once again, not a good tactic.

    She didnt answer the question.

She rambled for around 3 minutes then Winfrey stepped in and said, “So to answer Justin’s question, now that that bill has gone and hasn’t passed, will you reintroduce that?”

    Absolutely,” Harris answered.

“And when I am elected president of the United States, I will make sure that bill gets to my desk, and I will sign it into law.”

So this is her answer to immigration, somehow sign a bill that died in the Senate in May. It was never introduced, and would never have passed, in the House of Representatives.

Yet she is mysteriously going to sign this bill when it gets to her desk.

When will that be, I will tell you, the 12th of never.

Biden and Harris took office almost 4 years ago, and they opened the border en masse.

Only in an election year did they do anything about addressing the border, and instead of relying on Presidential executive orders they waited around for a doomed bill.

Harris's "answer" was complete deflection, try to blame Trump.

The whole Oprah thing was a lovefest, Oprahs first question was “Can you feel the joy rising here?”

It only died because Trump spiked it for tactical reasons. There is absolutely no reason it would not and could not pass if brought back to the house.

None of that , which is mostly nonsense and hyperbole , makes her response "Word Salad" or anything remotely like it.

Her answer was a fully formed response in actual sentences that you didn't like , but categorically not "word Salad" which generally means "incoherent, disjointed speech" which covers 90%+ of what Trump says these days.

His response to the question of Childcare has already been shown , we also have his response to the question of "how will you help the Car Industry" where he talked about Nuclear bombs and the size of his rallies before saying "drill baby drill" and "Tariffs" .

    Now those are word salad.

Regrettably it probably won't, because to the Trump voting republican it's a battle of Us Vs Them, Them being comprised of anyone who disagrees with Us

Senate wrote a bill. House refused to take it up. GQP senators then reneged.

    https://www.brookings.edu/articles/the-collapse-of-bipartisan-immigration-reform-a-guide-for-the-perplexed/

If the Democratic party controls both houses of Congress after this election, take a guess as to what might happens with that bill. If the GQP run one or both chambers, the "immigrant invasion" that the GQP is so worried about will continue due to its inaction.

As I tell my GQP friends - there was a bill. The Senate GOP supported it. Trump killed it, because your safety isn't his concern.

In fact , I'd be willing to bet that if Trump were to win in November that bill would get re-presented and passed by Congress and Trump would sign it and claim that it was the greatest thing ever blah blah blah.

It failed ONLY because Trump didn't want to risk the situation at the border improving before the election because him winning is infinitely more important to him than actually doing something to benefit the country he claims he wants to lead.

If the President of the United States can work remotely then it really calls the whole return to office thing into question

On a side note, if Trump gets elected and Elon basically ends up owning the US government, will he be demanding Trump spend more time at the office. I'd love to see that argument going down 😂

I doubt he will of course because Elon's rules don't apply to any of the "higher people". Particularly since he seems to spend his time now trying to figure out what cocktail of drugs is enough to keep him awake and tweeting for 22 hours per day

If they want more choice and better access to education for everyone they could set up standardised private schools and fund them all equally. They could pay for them with taxes. They could call it a public school system.

Pretending the privatisation of the public school system is about increasing access for those with less money is absolute bullshit. They could at least be honest about it.

I won't believe Harris has won until the vote count is in giving her the majority numbers required and Chief Justice Roberts has sworn Harris in to the Office of President BECAUSE we all know Trump and Co will lie about the numbers, even in court on oath on that most religious of document that they will tell the truth and nothing but the truth. For 2025 read the history from 2020 to the present.

Exile has a nice ring to it, except the US would first have to find a country which think's it big enough to take him in.

This is still a bill Republicans wanted and the Border Patrol endorsed.

It’s funny this is getting poo poo’d while 9 years after coming down the escalator in 2015, and promising to repeal and replace Obamacare, Trump is still on the “concepts of a plan” phase. I’d love to hear if anyone could remind me what Trumps policies are that don’t involve signing any laws from Congress? Dictator on day one, is that it? But Kamala oh how **** dare she endorse a piece of key legislation. It’s droll, Ted.

Good to see Fonda encouraging the young vote- but it does beg the question just what are Harris’ policies on climate change, drilling, alternative energies etc

I imagine many young Americans are very much about saving the planet so are turned off by Harris statement on fracking - I mean you’d be turned off more by Trumps drill baby drill so it’s lesser of two evils - but just shows how constrained Harris is - of course she can’t “condemn” oil and gas etc she needs those votes - but is that at the expense of younger voters?

5% gap, Trump had a lead whole time until recently with this lot

    it’s right in her website:

”As Attorney General, Kamala Harris won tens of millions in settlements against Big Oil and held polluters accountable. As Vice President, she cast the tie-breaking vote to pass the Inflation Reduction Act, the largest investment in climate action in history. This historic work is lowering household energy costs, creating hundreds of thousands of high-quality clean energy jobs, and building a thriving clean energy economy, all while ensuring America’s energy security and independence with record energy production. As President, she will unite Americans to tackle the climate crisis as she builds on this historic work, advances environmental justice, protects public lands and public health, increases resilience to climate disasters, lowers household energy costs, creates millions of new jobs, and continues to hold polluters accountable to secure clean air and water for all. As the Vice President said at the international climate conference, COP28, she knows that meeting this global challenge will require global cooperation and she is committed to continuing and building upon the United States’ international climate leadership. She and Governor Walz will always fight for the freedom to breathe clean air, drink clean water, and live free from the pollution that fuels the climate crisis. ”

According to an online report from the Daily Mail, Republican House Speaker Johnson got a deal passed yesterday which will secure the funding of the Federal Govt for the next [3] three months. Can anyone confirm the report as true, given the report I saw is a product of the Daily Mail? I can't see that making for a happy day for Trump.

Yep it's true. Mini disaster for the GOP averted.

The below article from NBC says the Senate will vote on a continuing resolution this week.

Sounds like the Daily Mail jumped the gun. Again. That is why I think anything from the Daily Mail requires enough salt to season a whale.

As long as the "Election security" nonsense is off the table which it now is, I think it passes the Senate without much issue.

By making it 3 months , it pushes it to December when it will still be the current administration and congress.

The GOP had been trying to get a CR that pushed it to after January 20th in the hopes that they would have the clean sweep of control and get to pass something silly but this means they can't do that for now and also can't campaign on doing it either.

Yet again , it's another lose-lose result from the GOP led House.

I'd say it must kill Trump that the Dems are campaigning on joy. An emotion the man just cannot exude at all.
