    that’s a mistake I think. It doesn’t appear as an option in the configurator either. Lapiz is an “R” only colour, never been an option on the GTI. (Although yes I know they’ve offered it on R Line too for a while).

    This new GTI is believe it or not a tad cheaper than the outgoing car. And a few bits that were optional are now standard, such as camera and winter pack. And it’s got 30-odd more bhp. Bargain 😝

    The Clubsport will still be the one to go for imo…

    I know this query has been answered loads of times before... but the search capability of the Boards website is a mess…

    What is the service interval for the DSG gearbox in a Mk7.5 PP GTI? There are so many conflicting results online.

    So the configurator for the new GTI model is up - you're looking at €60k+ for a new one with any options. That is a LOT for a golf. I've always wanted a GTI but just can't justify that kind of money. Might wait a few years and get a second hand but by then I'll be over 40 and it'll officially be my mid life crisis car 😆

    Anyone thinking of getting one?

    they’ve been that kind of money for a while now. The new model is actually slightly cheaper than the outgoing model, believe it or not. And it’s slightly better equipped and obviously has the bump up in power.

    Clubsport prices not announced yet but I expect it to start at around 63k, so easily pushing €70k with a few options

    My own CS is coming up on 3 years old, longest I’ve kept a car in a long time! I’ve been really happy with it and it’s been virtually hassle free. I hope to clear the finance on it soon and sit on it for another while. I can see myself being very tempted to go for another one next year but it will depend on how the numbers look! My own car is pretty much still as-new with very low Kms, so it’d be sinful to put a huge wedge of money along with it for a relatively minor upgrade on what I have…

    Love this. Wondering how you're getting on with it?

    I'm thinking of importing a 7 R Wagon in from Japan, looks like there's decent value. Can get a 15/16 with lowish mileage for about €15k into Ireland and then around €5k to VRT it.

    7 R Wagon - not too common at the auctions in Japan but can be got for cheaper than 15K landed in Dublin.

    Thanks. Absolutely loving it. Such a good all rounder.

    The turning circle isn't the best, the stereo has a few little glitches (mk7.5), but overall they're minor issues and the pros are endless.

    I had to replace the grab handles on the roof, passenger and driver side, that's common on the mk7.5.

    Bought a genuine parcel shelf and installed a good dash cam.

    Cleans up very well and gets the occasional compliment.

    I'm always thinking of my next car but can't think of a better all rounder at the moment. A good one at 20k on the road is a bargain imo.

    Had the rear pads replaced by Seat last week and I noticed the surface rust hasn't gone away. Are new pads tapered at the surface and not making full contact at the beginning?

    Yes pads are tapered but that disk looks toast

    I think it looks worse than it is, they didn't say it needed replacing and I can't feel the scoring with a fingernail which apparently is an indicator for how bad it is? I see mixed results online whether or not scored discs should be replaced. It's back in for a service in September if they change their mind!

    If you can't feel it with a fingernail then it's not scored and is fine but the pics look like it's heavily scored 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Well today marks the end of my Golf GTD MK8 and VW ownership after 8 years of being a loyal VW Golf owner, end of an era. Onto a 3 series now, I feel like a proper grown up now! :)

    320D the last of the diesels, was going to wait til next year until I found out the week I enquired was the week any last adjustments could be made to order slots, some timing hahah

    Anyone know what sort of labour I be looking at for swapping springs? Had to get the rear shocks replaced on the Golf and that was 3 hours labour, I was debating new springs on the Born as they're fairly inexpensive but if it's going into four digit territory I might not bother...

    It was €600 with Cupra. The Sachs OEM shocks are pricey. I was originally quoted for one side, it was only when the car was in with them they I was quoted the full price. Normally don't mind main dealer servicing costs, this one stung though.

    I've been struggling to get free time between the baby and work shifts getting moved around, had the Golf and Born booked in back to back so wasn't in a good position to take the car back. Had I have known the price in advance I would have just gotten any local indie to throw on the much cheaper Bilstein OE replacements as it's a simple enough job.

    Spoke to Dalton's about the springs, €675 for VWR springs and alignment. H&R and Eibach also available, need to have a look into what sort of drop I'm looking at. Not too bad.

    Yeah you can’t replace shocks individually otherwise it will fail the NCT for a suspension imbalance. I’l be honest I’ve never paid more than €100 in labour for a set of rear shocks on any VW group car so yeah €600 is very steep.

    Yeah, no sign of it on the configurator. It appeared on the UK one about a week ago. Typically enough, we lag behind, although I wouldn't be surprised if the dealers had access to a provisional price list if you asked them.

    I expect the CS will probably mirror what we saw before, in or around 4 - 4.5k premium over the standard GTI.

    Its a good engine. I think its a 4 cylinder so its fairly refined and its reliable. The 1.4 TSI will have a bit more power but the 1.2 TSI is adequate in most scenarios. I think it has a lifetime timing belt as well.

    that is same engine as used in Skoda Octavia I think. Had one and no issues with engine. It is quite nippy for town up to 80 km/h speeds but then it’s underpowered. You will have to be careful overtaking in it on N roads. Other downside it is very slow to heat in winter. Will not have warm air in cabin for close to 10 minutes . Otherwise mechanically it’s a good engine.

    Went to look at this today. Nice car and I was surprised how nippy the 1.2 engine is. The seller is not budging from the 17995 asking however.

    I'm torn between buying this and buying a mk8. I'm thinking of going to see this during the week:

    Granted it's nearly double the price of the mk7, but it has all the toys I want (harmon kardon, pan roof) and only 17000 kilometres from new.
