A number of transmitters will have breaks to radio signals starting 30 April. The Fermoy one says 30 May, which must be a typo.

Hey, hoping I could pick your brains.

Parents house. We've two TVs working off one aerial on the chimney.

One always works perfectly, the other has a reoccurring issue with RTE1 where the quality of the picture will be very poor.

Got an engineer out to test the cables and he said there are nothing wrong with them and we changed the aerial.

Our last option is to change the TV but kinda slow to do that because it's a pretty new smart LG tv.

Started having issues the other day again after a long time trouble free. Retuned and can't find RTE1 and I think Virgin Media 1 now at all but perfect on the other tv.

Anyone have suggestions of what could impact just a few of the channels only on one tv and only intermittently?

Ran a signal test. Getting only 22% and the quality is bouncing all over the place. Does RTE1 require a stronger signal?

    Thanks in advance

Edit - from what I can tell online, our local tower would be MULLAGHANISH 39km away

Check out this old thread — how do you split your aerial into 2 rooms ?

Do you use a distribution system or simply a splitter?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 349 ✭✭rounders

Thanks I'll have a read and a root around to figure out how we split.

    I think it's just a normal splitter

Turns out the person my parents got to fit the aerial was a cowboy. He just twisted the three cables around each other and wrapped them in electrical tape.

Got a proper splitter today and put it in a waterproof box. 80% signal on both TV's!

Glad you got it sorted — hope the box is really water proof !

  • All TV and radio services from the Castlebar relay have been off air for the last 15 minutes.

EDIT: engineering works at the site today between 10am and 5 pm.

Look in the Satellite forum. Thread there about Rewind TV, which is on the same transponder as the Now channels.

Seem to have lost Sky Arts.

Sky Arts has moved from 12070H to 12148H on HD devices.
On SD devices it has been removed as 12148H is a DVB-S2 mux.

It doesn't look like there's any transmitter issues from the 2rn website.

For Forth Mountain, mux1 is on ch33 and mux2 is on ch36.

    https://ukfree.tv/transmitters/tv/Forth_Mountain

Are you in any of the areas of interference on the left of the transmitter map? Suir Valley transmits on the same frequencies, and ch36 is at the top end of a group A aerial, if that's what you have.

Are all the neighbours aerials in the same direction, or are any of them using Mount Leinster instead?

Have a look at the signal readings. There could be some signal on Mux 2, but not enough for a picture. And even with the Mux 1 picture being fine, that could be just above the threshold. Will also be useful for a Before and After comparison if you change things. And looking at the readings is a good way to optimise the aerial position.

The link won't stay current. Work on big transmitters Mullaghanish and Maghera in the wee small hours. Small transmitters during the day. And ongoing work on Truskmore affecting radio.

    https://2rn.ie/service-updates/

Due to essential engineering work, our Mullaghanish transmitter will be subject to an outage of up to 7 hours 30 minutes between 22:30 Tuesday 3rd and 06:00 Wednesday 4th September 2024. This work will affect all Saorview services from this transmitter site. 2rn apologise for any inconvenience caused by this necessary work.

Due to essential engineering work, our Maghera transmitter will be subject to an outage of up to 6 hours between 00:05 and 06:00 on Thursday 5th September 2024. This work will affect Saorview services from this transmitter site. 2rn apologise for any inconvenience caused by this necessary work.

Im still confused or are you talking about ITV3 HD on satellite?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,990 ✭✭✭✭The Cush

I expect UTV, ITV 4 and ITV Be old frequency will be switched off soon too, new frequency 11386 V 27500 has been active since late August

    And France 24 to 11426 V 29500

Cheers. It's not hard to get confused with posts about satellite channels appearing in the terrestrial forum.

Seem to have lost pretty much all my channels (antenna). Started little over a week ago where the signal started getting pretty choppy. Thought it was the weather which was unusual in itself as never happened before and the weather wasn't that bad, but just kept getting worse even during the day. Tried retuning all the channels but even though they're mostly all listed, pretty much nothing coming through on them.

I just ran a check on my TV and it says Signal Strength 100%, but Signal Quality 0%.

Haven't changed anything myself which would have caused it. Is it likely to be the aerial outside just giving up the ghost?

Also, I've checked another TV at another TV point so I've ruled out issues with the TV or that socket. Antenna approx. 20 years old.

I assume there is an amplifier of some sort in the setup considering there's at least 2 TVs fed from that aerial.

    Can you describe your installation?

The only time I've seen readings like that was when a signal was overloaded.
