    I've voted Green a lot of times in the past 20 years but now seriously regret voting for them in the last GE. They went on a complete power trip and are completely anti rural with their policies. Eamon Ryan, even though he's no longer leader, wants us to commute to Dublin by bicycle.

    If he wanted to do something practical, he should have started twin tracking the Bray to Greystones rail line.

    It's as much to do with the requirement of an online service station. This hadn't been envisaged when the scheme started. Rural pols like a bit of green bashing.

    I'm curious what policies did you vote for when you voted green and what has changed since then? did the green party ever say they were pro motorway?

    I don't actually think anyone wants you to commute from Wexford to Dublin by Bicycle, you sound hysterical.

    If the intention is to build a motorway the whole way, then that would have added a lot of unnecessary time, cost and effort.

    that is the plan as far as I know, but I think it’s way off as there’s a lot of far worse roads in the country. That whole route was upgraded in the late 80s and 90s as wide two lane and outside of rush hour and ferry arrivals isn’t that busy below Wexford town. Far worse roads in the country that had minimal upgrades need attention first

    What are the other roads in the country that are in more need of an upgrade? Not looking for an argument, genuinely curious. Eg. some parts of Cork to Limerick has way less traffic (11,200) than Oylegate to Wexford (17,528).

    Also, big wide road doesn't necessarily mean safe. The extra width can encourage more dangerous driving practices and there are multiple right turns across oncoming traffic still permitted.

    By the time planning goes in or is approved and works are about to start, the legislative requirements will of changed again and we'll be back to square one. It is literally that slow.

    September 2024 update:

    The Project is in Phase 3 – Design and Environmental Evaluation.

    Additional Traffic survey report is completed.

    Archaeological Geophysical Surveys draft factual report is completed.

    Real Estate Consultancy are under assessment.

    The design of the Project is progressing, including additional tasks in relation to the Service Area requirements and Active Travel.

    Preparation of Environmental, Planning, Design and other reports are ongoing.

    Meeting with the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) in relation to the Connecting Europe Facilitates (CEF) funding was held in August

    Project teams are preparing proposal for the change of the scope of agreement due to additional project tasks in relation to the Active Travel and Service Areas.

    I see Verona Murphy is been taped as one of the Indos that may support the government and i would say this road would be one off her asks especially with her trucking background.

    Phase 4 is not due to start till 2026. What if this is her ask what could be done to speed up the process?

    Being from Ramsgrange, I suspect the remaining N25 between Glenmore and Waterford would be more of a vote winner from her constituents even though the road itself is in Kilkenny.

    A motorway is going to take time in fairness. Choose a route, archeological and land surveys,contact all the landowners and implement CPO's. Nevermind construction that will probably take years.

    November 2024 update

    The Project is in Phase 3 – Design and Environmental Evaluation.

    Real Estate Consultancy Service tenders are pending approval from TII before being awarded.

    Project design is advancing, with additional tasks addressing Service Area requirements and Active Travel provisions.

    The Traffic Model is being updated to incorporate revised 2024 traffic surveys, including sensitivity analysis of the Variable Demand Model.

    Consultations with Iarnród Éireann regarding the railway protection structure at the River Slaney Bridge crossing are ongoing.

    Preparation of Environmental, Planning, Design and other reports are ongoing.

    Progress report has been submitted to the European Climate, Infrastructure, and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) and is awaiting approval.

    I assume the issue is the intention to build motorway? Type 2 DC would be fine here and could be progressed much fast. There is also the possibility that after feckin' about for several years with this, that it gets rejected and the process has to start again.

    The earlier communications suggested M/N11 would be Type 1 DC (“motorway”) for the remainder of its length: bypassing Oilgate, across the Slaney estuary and south to the point where it meets N25, east of Barntown. While the road will probably be Type 1, I think actual motorway restrictions would not begin until Oilgate: a second estuary crossing is too useful to restrict it to motorway-only traffic.

    The new sections of N25 will most likely be Type 2 DC ("2+2") throughout. That's for safety reasons, rather than capacity: there's a lot of hairy overtaking here, as car passengers try to get past the HGV traffic to and from the ferry port.

    I think it'll be motorway until it meets the N25. TII (and NRA back when it was that) don't like isolated sections of motorway, so I don't think any of the N25 part will have blue signs.

    My guess so is motorway to the N25 junction, Type 1 Dual Carriageway until the southern end of the Wexford bypass, then 2+2 from there.

    TII don't seem to mind short stub sections of motorway like the N25 would be here (see M2, M17, M20). A potential M25 here would be more of an M11 extension with an N25 TOTSO. Although there's no real reason why the road from Wexford Town to Rosslare Port couldn't just be M11.

    It seems they don't like isolated sections as in sections not connected to the main motorway network (e.g. the Waterford bypass which would have an N9 section between a potential M25 and the N9, an M22 which would have a N40 section between it and the N8). The N25 in Cork iirc had no alternative route between Dunkettle and J2 Little Island which made it unworkable, and the N8 ending 400m north of Dunkettle was an issue too.

    The Waterford bypass doesn't meet the geometric criteria to be a motorway, except at 100 km/h, so there's no point in putting blue signs on it just to have a line on a map.

    The active travel route for cyclists and pedestrians is apparently holding up progress.
