    Hi All,

    New to boards so apologies for joining in late, my house is located just up from the Rosslare Roundabout and is on the proposed motorway plan to be demolished to make way for a flyover the existing Rosslare Road. To say I'm exhausted and distraught over the delays is an understatement. I've contacted TD's, solicitors, planners etc to try get this moved on but nothing... everywhere I go I'm hit with blank expressions and sorry we can't do anything it has to go through the process, the lack of willingness to get this project completed is amazing it's like they want to just keep it at the planning stages, we have had so many surveys done around our property it's laughable at this stage and the cost of doing all these must be crazy. The silence from Wex Coco our TDs and councillors says it all I've contacted them all and nothing. Sorry guys rant over....it's a good read going through your posts thanks for that..

    Mate, they always move at this speed. We have a long process in this country. There is no point in asking TDs, councillors or solicitors, they have no idea because it isn’t them that’s building it. Transport Infrastructure Ireland is the one building it, only they know.

    And consultant fees for a road likely aren’t high compared to the cost of building the road.

    Have they got that level of detail already re flyovers etc?

    Yes they had the plans finished and ready to submit to an bord pleanala until Eamon Ryan decided to put a stop to it until a active travel route was included we have a map of the outline of the flyover going over our home..

    are these public documents then? So we can see the level of detail?

    Sure it’s not a proposed flyover over your home?


    Probably am wrong but just seems very early to have detailed drawings when the last major drawing published seem to be the preferred route selection and the 300 metre corridor

    That statement is exactly the reason I went to all those people we all just accept this is the way it is...It was to stop people from being left in limbo for years nearly 15yrs in our case. This should not be allowed to happen in the UK the have 7yrs from the announcement date of a project to complete it after that date a stop is put on the project and it isn't revisited that should apply here to so I'll keep at them to change the way these projects are handled...

    It wouldn't have been unreasonable to expect the remaining N11 to be prioritised if they've spent €230m on a post Brexit terminal at Rosslare.

    Although perhaps net volumes have not changed significantly, merely been a shift from UK→Rosslare to Europe→Rosslare.

    Having a nosey through the traffic volumes, the HGV percentage at the Rosslare sensor is unsurprisingly a couple of percent higher than the national average.

    One other interesting thing from those sensors is that the volumes at the Oilgate sensor (18k) are quite high compared to other roads in the region (not exceeded on the M/N11 until beyond Gorey) and is substantially higher than most parts of Cork-Limerick (11k).

    I'd be curious if there is any other single carriage road in the country that has a higher ADT than Ferrycarrig - Oilgate.

    Volumes at ports are too small to be relevant if you’re talking about capacity limits. A modern RO-RO ferry can carry 550 cars, and about 1200 lane-metres of cargo (about 50 trucks with 40 ft trailers). You would need one such boat docking every hour, all through the day and night to exceed the capacity of a single carriageway road. My guess is that there’s currently about 1500~2000 AADT due to the ferries, the rest of the Rosslare count is locals (the counter is in the village, not the port)

    The planned 2+2 approach road was chosen for safety, not capacity: car drivers do exceptionally stupid and dangerous things around HGVs at the best of time, without adding the stress of the long trips that ferry passengers are taking.

    The reason Oilgate is so high is that there’s no other crossing of the Slaney anywhere near here - the majority is local and regional traffic, and a lot of it is taking a huge detour just to cross the river.

    Oilgate is really the only place that is critically bad at present, and it’s really such a shame that this was left as the only un-bypassed settlement north of the Slaney, but the rest of N11/N25 is functioning pretty well.
