If the last 3 official MSAs are anything to go by, we could be waiting until Paddy Kielty's drawing his pension, before this opens...

Personally think there should be services every 25km on the motorway network but an changes shouldn't be allowed delay the projects. They should be amended in tandem with the current process.

I think 40kms would be a sensible compromise. I personally agree with you, but the costs involved would be huge, it would probably put off both the retailers and TII.

Do you really need a service station every fifteen minutes? The M11 is remarkably empty most of the time anyway.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,044 ✭✭✭prunudo

Yes, certainly from a truck driving point of view. There is still a serious lack of service areas to allow the required breaks.

But not every stop needs to be a full service area. In France and other countries, every second or more stops are serviced by only a Toi Toi, but provide the necessary space for truckers and motorists to stop.

Yes, every stop doesn't need to have costa, bk, subway and convenience store, but it should be serviced with toilet and clean water, also needs to be well lit and have safe parking, not a layby 8m from traffic.

not a layby 8m from traffic.

Ah, the autostrada solution for trucker's rests.

At sundown, when they're nearly all full, 3 trucks can almost fit in each one.

'Almost' means that the nose of Truck 1 and the asre of Truck 3 sticks out into the hard shoulder.

Might improve the signage approaching the Oilgate roundabout. The barrier is alway in bits and I notice track marks on the roundabout today where a car has gone across it.

Aside from the service station, this appears to be going ahead fairly well. I had no idea they were at the ground investigation and archaeological stage.

    Are detailed plans up yet?

Fingers crossed the archaeological investigation doesn't unearth a long boat or something.

Has there been any updates, or is there any more information available? Looking at a property that is near to the preferred option (2-3 fields away) but not directly affected by it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 305 ✭✭geographica

Well the preferred corridor is published and it’ll be within that area, what updates do you need?

The next update can’t be too far away
