    Good post indeed.

The time to keep pushing the Dems to the left is in the senate/house races in 2026. They'll be expected to lose a few seats anyway, so a more vociferous workers campaign can be tolerated.

I think Harris and Walz are going after "The middle class" so much because they are the squeezed middle. They're very frustrated.

Americans also generally aggrandise their living and I would say a lot of working class people would be happy to describe themselves as middle class, while there would be more working class people seeing being middle class as an achievable ambition.

then lecture them not me - but I wouldn’t call them “opposition supporters” either - they’re simply exercising their right not to vote - one abstention is very unlikely to swing an election so really even talking about this is pointless, except of course for those who wish to antagonise other posters - come back to me when there’s a mass movement in America calling on all Harris supporters to abstain from voting for Harris- then i might listen - but one person abstaining? It’s fcking madness to even spend time making an issue of that and it’s completely illogical to call that person a Trump supporter when abstaining from voting for either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,781 ✭✭✭Flaneur OBrien

Huh? Where are you getting me lecturing you from?

I'm saying there'll be more than one abstention. There always is.

In fact, you've already pointed out the secret non-trump voter. There could easily be many of them that will just abstain as well.

I'll say it again, if you abstain in a two-horse race, you give your tacit support to WHOEVER wins as you didn't use the power of your vote to keep them out.

We have seen many Trump supporters do the whole 'both sides' false equivalences.
It is a social media tactic.

Why are you posting? You're just "antagonising" (your words not mine) other posters.

And taking a step back further, if you take your post to its logical conclusion it is madness posting here about a US election. You don't have a vote do you? Nor do I.

Why discuss any position, Trump supporter, abstainer, whatever. The position doesn't matter.

We're discussing the implications of the conduct, we can expect similar discussions to be happening on discussion boards with large cohorts of US voters too.

The turnout in the last election was high but still almost a third of voters didn't vote.

…..and therefore we as the ruling committee on this thread hereby hold the right to call anyone who doesn’t support Harris 100% - a Trump supporter even though we know it derails the thread, stops proper discussion and debate and generally pizzes a lot of people off/ gotcha !

They acknowledged that Trump is a rapist and a felon.

They aren't bothered enough about that to vote to keep him out of office.
Implicitly, they are ok with having such an individual as their President.

The fact of that is far worse than a label like 'Trump supporter'.

"some people say" but never a source. Where have we heard this type of play previously.

Trumps interview with Dr Phil is quite something.

Trump claims that God must have saved him from the shooter because “He wants me to save the world.”

A man who has broken almost every commandment and has never confessed a sin must be saved in order to deport all the foreigners and give the super wealthy nice tax cuts (saving the world).

Maybe Trump is the second coming?

Trump is a malignant narcissist with boundless self delusion. He will sell anyone out in order to further his own aims. This has been evident to anyone paying attention for years. The fact that around 70 million people are about to vote for this charlatan for a third time reflects so badly on America as a whole. For me anyway.

It does for me too- but you have to hand it to him - “God wants me to save the world” or “God has saved me for a purpose here on earth” - that’s fcking rocket fuel to his supporters - they go ballistically insane with delight - I wouldn’t expect anything less from Trump

While ignoring that there was a bipartisan bill on the border, agreed in committee… backed by unions… all set to pass until Trump ordered his lickspittles in the House to block it. Even though it had stuff in it Republicans are calling for.
Proof positive Trump just using it as a political football, so he could keep trying to stoke fears about a 'crisis'.

Anybody who claims to be concerned about the border while ignoring that has no credibility.

I've voted in every election since I have been eligible.

I only use my vote to support people who I believe represent me.

But name calling other posters is not helpful - I’d prefer to discuss the ins and outs and potential reasons in the last sentence of your post than go any further taking about abstainers as it’s going nowhere. Points are made on both sides and we’re not going to agree- I’m leaving it there- others can do what they like

You're discussing American politics. How exactly do you expect them to 'represent' you?

So putting yourself in the situation of an American voter:

Why can't a mixed race woman, with a career as a prosecutor and a DA, a law abiding citizen, a democrat (small d)… why can't she 'represent' you?

Calling someone a Trump supporter, in a thread discussing a two horse race between Harris and Trump… is name calling?

It is not name calling, it is teasing out their actual position.

Well unless we're agreed Trump's depravity is such his mere name is on the level of 'Nazi'.

The hilarious part is that if Trump fails to get re-elected, they'll never consider that God wanted him to lose. They'll never consider their own logic that God wanted Trump to win and even saved him from being assassinated, but the Dems are seemingly so powerful (more powerful than God) that they were somehow still able to beat God's own chosen selection for President.

'God' is just an excuse deployed by the evangelical Christians and their allies to justify all the relentlessly un-Christian policies, beliefs and people they actively advocate for.

That is a direct quote from the article I was presented with.

    This thread is fascinating,

Even if your NOT a Trump supporter but question anything about Kamala it seems your automatically chastised or answered with but but Trump is an X ,Y or Z

But yet we are led to believe its the Red side who are part of a cult in seeing no wrong with Donald, (there is plenty wrong with him)

When in actual reality both options are awful & shows exactly why the world is in such a state for so many , ,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,019 ✭✭✭✭duploelabs

The article you presented earlier also disproves that Harris was in charge of the border, you realise this right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,512 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

    Both are awful?

Says a lot you place Trump and Harris on the same level as 'awful'.

Trump is a racist, a rapist, a felon. He tried to steal the last election.

Nope. One option Trump is awful, whose conduct should have put them in prison or at very least disqualified them from ever holding public office again.

The other option Harris, nothing 'awful' about her. Just desperate attempts are finding any fault to make a false both sides equivalence. A microscope is applied to scrutinise her conduct.

If you rank her as awful as a rapist and a racist - that's entirely on you.

And that doesn't require anything remotely 'cult' like, just a rejection of false both sides equivalences.

It is a two horse race. It is not whataboutery mentioning Trump, it is about establishing standards.

For sure, but Harris is a former District Attorney and Attorney General whilst Trump is a convicted criminal, who has had multiple other allegations of wrongdoing and criminality made against him. I wouldn't quite buy the 'both sides' argument here.

I wonder how many Americans who claim to be devout Christian’s have actually read the bible, considering the right wing seem to paint Jesus as a gun-loving, foreigner-hating, liberal-bashing American. If the Jesus from the bible came back they’d hate him!

I’m gonna guess very few actually have and get their religious opinions from those obscenely rich evangelical ranters they see on TV.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,019 ✭✭✭✭duploelabs

In fairness, the 'centerists' here would be happy to criticise Harris on any policy yet be remarkably mute when it comes to levelling the same accusations against trump. If indeed they truly are undecided, they would be happy to use an even hand on both candidates, yet I'm still yet to see that happen here.

For example, many of them would become experts in geriatric medicine when assessing Biden's mental capabilities (also conveniently forgetting about his stammer) yet wouldn't use that expertise in assessing trump's foibles.

Harris' team (or herself) is idiotic in not doing an interview before this evenings scheduled sit down, does that make me a trump supporter, well I think you can look over my posting history to see otherwise

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,019 ✭✭✭✭duploelabs

You quoted (without citation) an interview as some kind of proof that she was in charge of the border, which it didn't

Depends on whether it’s Old Testament or New Testament I guess- Old Testament is a very violent unforgiving place
