If you absolutely need to be made aware of all messages when driving, get an Android Auto headunit. It won't keep pinging at you when ignore a message.

Otherwise, this thread should be titled "Stop dangerous distracting app"

I don't keep checking my phone in case I missed something. Nothing I have ever received is THAT urgent that me not seeing it immediately will have an impact.

If someone needs to call me urgently they will ring again if I miss them first time.

I think this boils down to you having a huge need to respond to everything on your phone without a certain amount of time?

If I missed a call or a message I'd just leave it till the next time I happen to pick up and look at my phone. I don't 'need to keep checking my phone'. I'll check it when I get to it.

Have you someone on their last legs or something? What's with the need to constantly be connected?

Why do you need this app?

You can’t be this tied to a phone can you?

it sounds like this "app" could be quite useful for people with ADHD

    oh look Squirrel !

"But android has a notification bar at the top that shows you when you missed a call or got a message."

BUT you still have to pick up and look at your phone - That's the point!

You don't with the app I recommend.

You can leave your phone on a table - go in and out of the room several times and never miss an alert without picking up your phone.

Except to actually acknowledge the app, you do, hence your complaint.

The app solves nothing here. Turn it off.

It is possible to use a mobile phone in such a way that it is never out of earshot. Mobile being the operative word in what we call mobile phones.

I give up - I guess you all like being slaves to your phones.

The app can reduce FOMO by 50% +

There's only one person who's a slave to a phone here OP and it's not us.

I think I hear your three minute notification alarm going off somewhere in your house, better find your phone before you miss something! 😁

You're the one with FOMO for a text message, so you're the one with the problem here.

Try not to crash in to one of us next time you try silence your look-at-me-immediately alarm on the roads.

My Garmin watch had a feature like this where it buzzed on your wrist wherever you got a notification/text whatever (you can disable apps you dont want to get notifications from).

That lasted about a day before it drove me mad and that was one wrist buzz.

OP airplane mode when driving is your answer. That app sounds like its bad for your mental health, how would you have survived before we had mobiles?!! Billions of us somehow managed!

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

"I have to pull over and read the text to silence the alert."

Maybe you don't have FOMO, but you're definitely a slave to that app, and you're then celebrating that app for how great it is!

Being a slave to your phone is having it beep every 3 minutes until you pick it up!!

I had a missed call from my mother today. I saw it 1.5 hours after she rang. No emergency. Just a chat. I hadn't looked at my phone for 1.5 hours. I don't know how that makes me more of a slave to my phone than you?!

The app can reduce FOMO by 50% +

Is this the tagline of the app?

What's the FOMO? What are you missing out on?

A text? The text will be there whenever you read it, so you won't have missed it.

A missed call? Your phone will show you the notification of the call and you can ring the person back whenever you happen to pick your phone, again not missing out on anything.

I really hope you're not a shill for this app because you're doing a terrible job of selling it's benefits!

I have a very similar problem. I've got an excellent app called fotmob that sends me a goal alert every time a premier league team score a goal.

The problem is that the alerts are distracting and dangerous when I'm driving and I nearly crash every weekend

Does anyone know who I could contact in the premier league to stop them playing games when I'm driving?

This is either the world's worst advert for an app, or someone who is seriously confused as to the usefullness of what is essentially an annoying alarm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,578 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

Receiving texts when driving is not dangerous. Reading texts when driving is, you shouldn't be doing that.

That app sounds completely ridiculous and unnecessary. People miss texts and called when away from their phone. People normally check notifications when they return to their phone. Incredibly simply.

Even if you insist on that app. It would take 2 seconds to set your phone to DND or disable notifications when driving.
    This is a non-issue.

@Eirman Has your car got Android Auto?

Surely you just need them to stop scoring goals?

Given it's soccer, I think are probably safe enough already…? :P

    I'll get me coat.

When James Cameron was on set and a mobile phone went off he had it stuck to the wall with a nail gun

Have you considered installing an app that sets off an alarm three minutes after one of your fotmob notifications so you can pull over to the side of the road to read the phone that you are not a slave to?

i can think of no greater way of making life miserable than an app which nags you when you haven't read a text.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 2,827 ✭✭✭nachouser

I wonder is there a market for a second app that goes off every two minutes to let you know that the first app is going off to let you know that you need to check your phone?

You answered your own question below.

I also have a large house with office upstairs & can hear my phone beep anywhere in the house if its not on me, I think to myself I'll check that when I'm ready like most normal people. Delete that app as its giving you anxiety.

Yunno I've always said that the upstairs in an Irish bungalow is criminally under utilised. Believe it or not I have actually seen some bungalows that dont even have an upstairs!

Also, you should try to get one of those landlines with the super long extension cords that reach all over the house like in Roseanne, way handier that having some little yoke in your pocket all the time.

Could also link it to your car so if you don't open the app to open the notifications you missed on the lock screen of your phone, it shuts the car off so you can pull over to read them.120kph or 12kph it won't give a ****. We could be on to big money here 🤣
