no 33, but have played tennis since 6! It’s just a strange comment to say you feel he’d be hammered by them but can give zero analysis or reason for it. Each to their own I suppose.

Was out and didn't see any of it other than the last couple of points in the pub. I said Alcaraz would want to be on it for the final, sounds like he was other than from 40-0 in his final service game. Did not expect it to be that comfortable.

I could list plenty reasons/areas.. the big three on form were a class above. I’d also back Murray and an in-form Stan.

Go for it. Bear in mind Alcaraz is more than likely going to improve. He is nowhere near a male tennis players peak age.

Bud stick to the boxing. Alcaraz is another level. He made Djokovic look very ordinary which very few have ever been able to do age/injury be damned.

yes, a 37 year old Nole returning from knee surgery. Wake up, lad

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58,407 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Yes, I am not sold yet. A point I made. Right now I’d be very confident that a 21 year old Alcaraz gets hammered by the big three (in form).

Maybe a 22/23/24/25 years old Alcaraz will be even stronger. But who knows.

Wide awake bud. Maybe get the head checked with all the knocks over the years you've no clue what you're talking about! Not even sure what argument you're trying to make. Are you trying to argue that Alcaraz would not beat the big three in their prime? Complete hypothetical nonsense. Maybe he would maybe he wouldn't. You can only beat what's in front of you and he demolished Djokovic today. That is a fact. If you want to argue hypotheticals knock yourself out.

    And I'm out 🙄

Great tournament, enjoy the endless circular arguments, see ya'll for the US Open!

Year for year: I’d take 2003 Federer, a 2007 Nadal and a 2008 Nole to beat today’s Alcaraz 9/10 times on any surface. So best 21 year big three beat Alcaraz

I just don’t see any evidence from his play over the last few years both on tv and in person. He doesn’t have much weaknesses and his mentality is ridiculous. I can only see him improving. You have also changed your tune a bit, needs to be taken into account he’s at the start of his career.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 910 ✭✭✭ledwithhedwith

no he saying they would hammer him lol. But can’t point to any reason.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58,407 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Any reasons and you’d simply disagree.

Watch 2007/2008 SW19 finals. Fed and Nadal.

Fed: better BH, FH, court coverage, serve, variety, shot selection. Straight sets win..

Nadal: better court coverage, better FH, speed feet. He’d run Alcaraz ragged

    2003/2004 Fed same as above.

I stopped reading at fed better court coverage. You don’t follow tennis I’d imagine , that’s fine, I don’t follow boxing.🥊

And showed your lack of awareness. Federer’s court coverage was amazing, and lost on some because he did it without ever looking strained (unlike Nole and Nadal). To win points against Fed you had to kill him. He was that quick around the court.

genuinely no tennis commentator , player, observer would consider Federers court coverage to be better than Alcaraz’s. I don’t think Federer himself would try claim it. Use your eyes, do you watch him play? Or is it just old man dislikes change.

It won't be a surprise if we see another Alcaraz vs Djokovic final at the US Open as well.

What's the likelihood of Alcaraz boosting his ranking between now and Flushing Meadows? Would really like to see Sinner and Alcaraz kept apart and Djokovic have to get through both of them if he's to win another slam. I think Alcaraz will still be ranked 3 tomorrow even after winning the last two slams.

Not sure where to post this so mods if in the wrong spot please feel free to move.
I was lucky enough to get tickets in the ballot for Wimbledon ‘25. Have never been and know nothing about it really - but excited to go. Have tickets for court number 2 on the singles 3rd round gents and ladies. Just looking for some tips on attending. Not sure if because I have tickets I don’t need to queue to get in, am I just in court 2 or am I free to go to the outside courts etc. what time of day to arrive etc. All advice appreciated.

First of all, congrats on getting tickets! You'll have a fantastic time. I've been to Wimbledon twice so feel like I know the gist of things.

First things first, if you're traveling to the venue by tube get off at Southfields instead of Wimbledon as it's actually nearer to the venue itself. When you get off at Southfields you'll be following the crowds and stewards, it's about a twenty minute walk.

As you alluded to yourself having a ticket already means very little queuing. You'll be sent to a particular gate to queue, perhaps it might say where on your tickets or confirmation email. You'll wait with a group of about 50 people or so and you'll be let in to collect your tickets. It's all extremely straightforward and stress free, and all the staff there are extremely polite and helpful which makes the whole vibe even nicer.

If you're on court 2 then play starts at 11am, so I'd recommend getting there for around half 9, or maybe a little earlier. Give yourself some time to walk around the grounds and explore before things get crazy busy in the evening. It's a lovely place, and there's lots to see. You'll also be able to see players on the practice courts, if you're lucky you may even see a big name.

Your tickets are just for court 2, but court 3 or lower are open to anybody on site, so if there's any matches you'd like to see there then you can check them out too (though space could be tight).

As you know from watching on TV you can only leave your seat during changeovers, so be aware of the fact that if you do leave to eat/drink/use the toilet it could take 15/20 minutes to get back in. It'll be a great day, but also very long, so make sure you use your opportunities in between matches to eat some food, I remember being starving by the time it got to 1/2pm. And don't forget to have some Pimms! It's absolutely gorgeous.

I think I've covered as much as I can, feel free to ask anything else. If you'd like some other perspectives you can ask on The Tennis Thread 2025 here on the racquet sports forum. Enjoy your day when it comes!

That’s super thanks so much. One silly question - if I do leave court 2 to go to outside courts can I go back to court 2 later? I know I have a specific seat allocated to me - would someone else take it while I’m away and when I come back do I shift them or just take an empty seat?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,750 Mod ✭✭✭✭yerwanthere123

You can of course come back! Your ticket is for the entire day of court 2 play, from the first point to the last. It's possible someone could take your seat on the assumption you've left for the day, but just ask them to move and they'll move no bother. I had to ask someone to move a couple of times and there's never been any issues. On the off chance there is, there's plenty of security and stewards around who'll shift the person for you, if need be!
