Well well well, who'd have thunk!

Sinner's tail is well up now, what did they give him in that time out??!!

I'm switching to Alcaraz v Paul..... it's a lot closer than I was expecting!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,304 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Ooh, first set to Paul...... ho hum!!

Playing lights out tennis in fairness to him, in the games I've seen anyway.

And Sinner heading for a 5th.

    What to be watching??

There goes Sinner. Alcaraz the only one who can stop a banjaxed Djokovic from winning this I'd say, the draw has worked out great for Djoko.

Looking like that alright! De Minaur next for him.

Alcaraz looking better against Paul than he was.

Big hold for Alcaraz eventually to go 4-2 up.

A lot of empty seats considering it's quarter final stages. At the ladies anyway. Men's seems to be full

Interesting take. I'd have thought that it's more like, "with Sinner out and Djokovic older and not 100%, it'll be straightforward for Alcaraz to retain his title."

Changeover between matches, it's full again.

A fairly ding-dong battle, Paolini fairly romped the first set but Navarro giving it socks in the second

You'd think, but Alcaraz has a tendency to let his level drop for a set here and there. He should definitely be beating a 37 year old half fit Djokovic, but I really wouldn't put anything past Djokovic either. He has 24 slams for a reason. I can't see him being tested on his way to the final.

I look away for 2 mins to watch Alcaraz take the win, and now she's 5-1 down! 🙄

Ah well, her time will come (I hope).

    Meantime, forza Paolini!!

Given the two matches today, I'd expect her to make mincemeat of Vekic.

I think the issue is more the lack of talent than the draw working out for Djoko.

Wimbledon has been dominated by Djokovic, Federer and Nadal for the best part of 2 decades. I'll give a nod to Murray!

While there are some really good players they just never seem reach the elite standard of the 3 above. Probably because they'd meet one of them in the early rounds and get unceremoniously squished. So never get the experience of quarter finals and definitely not semi finals!

Alcarez is coming in strong again this year and hopefully he'll hold onto the title. Once he doesn't injure himself he's definitely someone who I think will dominate for the coming years.

With Sinner losing, Alcaraz win win this fairly handy. Djokovic not at Alcaraz's level any more, and the rest of the field brutal

De Minaur withdraws injured, Djoko through to the SF's

    Whats people's opinion on McEnroe

As an occasional viewer I thought he seemed a bit useless in commentary but hen he goes against the grain and defends Djokovic

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,363 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

Lol, tell me the draw hasn't been kind to Djokovic now. Won't have played anyone inside the top 10 before the final and has a nice rest now before the semi. Alcaraz would want to be on it for the final, I wouldn't take Djokovic lightly at all.

I think he spoke a lot of sense defending Novak (I’m not a fan of him). There seems to be a bit of a bromance between McEnroe & Kyrios (in the wars atm re Andrew Castle comments).

Very kind draw as you say plus fresh to play Musetti or Fritz for place in the final. Alcaraz will likely have a tough enough battle in his legs if he is to get past Medvedev.

    Novak has been blessed

    Free Palestine 🇵🇸

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,719 ✭✭✭✭josip

And we in turn have been blessed to have Novak 😃

But let's not get ahead of ourselves talking about an Alcaraz - Djokovic final. Musetti and Fritz deserve plenty of respect. Fritz already has Zverevs scalp and is more than capable of adding Djokovics to it.

Musetti looking more likely winner now up a break in 5th set

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,363 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

Fritz has form for not being able to beat a legend of the game who is playing on one leg at Wimbledon too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,387 ✭✭✭Princess Calla

Wtf happened to Fritz in that final set?

    Good match!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,304 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Hmmm, Paolini/Vekic is not going the way I'd expected or hoped.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,304 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Whythe hell do BBC insist on chopping and changing between channels for the one match/ court??

I've to go out soon, recording the two ladies semis is going to be a nightmare - I set both BBCs to record basically all day yesterday, and still managed to miss the entire Rybakina/Svitolina match 😡

Same. It’s a dose. Also ash barty is class at commentary.

Isn't she! Fantastic addition to the team. I love Johanna Konta as well, if someone would only tell her the difference between exacerbate and exasperate - it makes me twitch every single time 😫
