    2017 😉

My cousin has a 2017 F10. G30 also appeared in 2017. So 8 years like I said. I swapped out of an F10 into one. It also had new rear bumper I suppose. It was a small increment of a change.

So the model change refresh is inline with the legacies or better.

Not every manufacturer updates as they go. The closest thing to that is the LCI that bmw do every 3/4 years. I remember the change from 131 to 132 in the F10. The change from 2007 in the E60 etc

    Here’s a 2017 F10 for sale currently.

Yeah, I'd be surprised if anyone bought it for how it looks, and changing the hubcaps doesn't fix that 🙂.

I think anyone concerned about appearances would have bought an EV6.

Tesla can be a accused of lots of things. But a lack of innovation that's inane.

I’m sure supplies strayed into 2017, but it was on death row, The g30 was unveiled in 2016. The point is Tesla have nothing to announce for the y. The position is even worse with the 3, fans fawn over the model 3 highland, but for most people it’s old hat.

it can be said with some certainty that sales of the 3 and y have peaked and Tesla don’t have an answer for this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,321 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

Tesla don’t announce that far in advance….

The Highland was announced and started deliveries a few weeks later….

You don’t know much about Tesla do you?

    People like what they like.
Some people fawn over Dacia Dusters or Skoda Octavia’s or the dreaded VW Golf! Every golf since the Mk5 was a slight incremental change. If this forum is anything to go by, people don’t like change. Hence the increments.

I’m not keen on the ev6 looks either. I prefer the VAG designs tbh.

Anyone aware of plans to install ev charging around arbour hill/stoneybatter area?

Wide open spaces suitable for it, heavily populated, national museum of ireland, collins barracks, arbour hill prison, a glut of any charging nearby, particularly no high speed in the area. Moved into the area and disappointing facilities.

Went to circle k fermoy yesterday to use their charger.

Tapped the Debit card, selected chademo and plugged leaf in. Charge lights start flashing. Voila. Walked away to take a leak.

Returned to see no charge occurring. Checked bank and no money debited.

Any idea what if anything I did incorrectly?

Possibly not a good connection to the charge port. This can happen with heavy cables that are off the ground when connected and the top of the plug comes away slightly from the charge port. In those cases, it's best to hold the plug in place while the charge session is starting. It should continue normally then and you can leave it. I had this problem on the new eCars chargers in Carrickmines.

Very often the chargers make a loud "think" noise when the contractor closes and charging actually starts. It's often good practice to wait until that happens before walking away, just to be sure

Often the fans spin up to a higher speed as well, that can be a way to know when charging has started

I always wait a couple of minutes to make sure the car is definitely charging, not an issue if you are using an app as you will get a notification if your charge stops.

Planned sites show a spanner. Heuston station is a good DC site. The council and ESB ecars don't plan any new AC chargers. This is plugshare app.

I'm charging at tesla Enfield for the first time today. Two question:

Are the chargers always so hard to remove? I even assumed the first one was broken/locked and moved to another, same issue. Found this thread and seems like it's just kind of the way it is?

    https://www.speakev.com/threads/struggling-with-the-ccs-cable-at-supercharger-stations.143861/

The other thing is tesla has charged my card €25, is that typical?

Found this thread and seems like it's just kind of the way it is?

A random thread from 5 years ago?

But to answer your question, no its not the way it is. I've never had issue releasing charging cables with Tesla superchargers, other than an occasional jiggle. Charging 4-5 times a week on average for more than 3 years, with at least twice a week at Enfield.

Do the chargers need to be unlocked from the app for a non Tesla before plugging in?

You were doing something wrong. Once all in place they are easy to remove. Car unlocked/charge port unlocked, charging stopped etc

    Should Just unplug.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,858 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

I’d say so yes. As they have to be stopped and unlocked in a Tesla.

I vaguely remember there's some way the superchargers detect when a Tesla is nearby and unlock

Assuming they're not using a Tesla then that mechanism doesn't exist, so I think you need to select the charger in the app first

Haven't used a supercharger before so I'm not sure of the process

I'm talking about taking the cable out from the charging stand, nothing to do with my car. I had the app set to charge from the appropriate charging point and it was telling me to plug it into my car

I mean it's a thread talking about the exact issue I was having, I'm not sure how that makes it random?

I tried on the very left one and the very right one. I did get it out of the one on the right.

I was chatting to a guy for a minute when coming back to the car and I asked him about it , he said he had the same issue til his friend told him to tilt it up first before pulling it out. So I guess I was just missing the proper knack to it

To answer my question around the €25, it originally charged me €25, but changed to the appropriate amount after the charging session

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,534 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

Yeah the €25 is fairly common, a lot of charging operators take a deposit to ensure you have funds before they allow charging to start

It usually gets refunded pretty quickly. A lot of operators charge more, for example BP Pulse in the UK take a £60 deposit which means tap and pay doesn't work for many Irish people, you need to had Google or Apple pay instead

Should be straight forward. Not locked in as such but you have to maneuver it out is a certain fashion.

You should see the €25 hold disappear tonight or tomorrow. It’s the same when using self service petrol stations. You can tell them the max and it holds it but only debits the actually amount you take.

I don’t use them much either. Infant, twice in 5 years. But I seem to remember they are always loose in the charger itself. You don’t have to do anything with a Tesla to initiate the charge. Just plug in.

I assumed the posted was talking about removing them from the car once finished charging.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,393 ✭✭✭MightyMunster

Had the same thing first time i used one back in 2020 and was sure I'd break it 😁you have to tilt it up before pulling out. Once you've done it right once or twice you'll just do it automatically.

They are probably relatively hard to move because they are short and liquid cooled so quite heavy compared to other chargers, the undocking/docking is just a wiggle exercise.

Their design is for Tesla EV use without cable touching the ground

Apologies if I came across harsh - not intended that way. Was just responding to the suggestion that it "seems like it's just kind of the way it is?" being based on a 5 year old thread. I thought if it was a common problem/complaint, I think you would readily find more recent complaints online, even here on Boards on one of the dedicated Tesla threads.

As I said, I don't recall this ever being an issue in those threads, but might be worth asking the question in the dedicated Supercharger thread.

Do all phev charge the battery a little after they park up?

I have noticed that if I exhaust the battery down to empty, drive on ICE for a while then park up, if I leave car and come back later, it could be at 3 or 4%.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,489 ✭✭✭Ivefoundgod

My tiguain doesn't anyway and even warns you when you turn it on that there is no charge left. Even at that thought it will switch to battery mode in stop/start traffic, i assume something like a mild hybrid would do but i've never had one of those.

I'm guessing the cells were balancing when you turned it off low when you got back the lowest power cell had been topped up by the others slightly
