Lottie has been on 2fm for years and was still awful.

The downsizing is on and pointless furniture is being skipped.

Apparently he is on holidays next week, and Vogue Williams is filling in.

I presume it will be one of the Q102 DJs on this side of the water. That's grand, I will be able to listen to them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,517 ✭✭✭Tork

Vogue Williams? Have the listeners not suffered enough?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 297 ✭✭nonetheless

If Vogue still living in Dublin, they will probably do the simulcast from Q102.

Oh I hadn't thought of that. Ah well.

They could top it all off by pairing up Vogue and Lottie. The Dynamic Duo🙄

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 297 ✭✭nonetheless

What is absolutely crazy is that the folks that work at Virgin Radio UK actually have no idea as to who Vogue Williams is and they also didn't know who Tubridy was.

"People in there really detest anyone being treated badly."

    What it actually meant to say was;

"RTÉ 'Celebrities'/Talent in there really detest RTÉ 'Celebrities'/Talent being treated badly."

‘Why bother going to college, doing all the donkey work, when all you have to do is have a few followers on TikTok. It’s despicable and totally demoralising.’"

And is this statement in that article really trying to infer that Lottie 'did all the donkey work, studied in college etc..' but is now losing out to someone who didn't do all of that, but is simply more 'popular' online..?

Are they genuinely trying to say that Lottie is in RTÉ on the back of her own hard graft, and it's nothing to do with her father being one of it's biggest stars? (despite him dying of a drug overdose, and as it turned out had been an addict for years, running up massive debts due to his addiction).

If only Tubridy was so lucky. Apparently it was all a big misunderstanding about Lottie and the gig was only for five weeks.

Sounds like backtracking to me... Wonder if Kayleigh Trappe will be filling the slot now, looked definit in the article a couple of days ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,521 ✭✭✭jmcc

RTE may have learned from how the Tubridy payments scandal was handled. The five week thing seems odd but if they are going for a kind of try-out on the programme then they may go through a number of presenters to see which one plays best. RTE Radio 1 did something similar with the 09:00 slot when it had to replace Tubridy.

Lottie is in the news saying she knew it was 5 weeks all along.

Presumably they'll ultimately pick who they think is best.

At least we still have 0 weeks of Tubs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,831 ✭✭✭GSF

sounds like Lottie has problems counting to 5

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 297 ✭✭nonetheless

Tubridy in flying form this AM - heading to Taylor Swift and sure she may even tailor the setlist especially for the A lister and include hits such as Don't Blame Me, Look What You Made Me Do, Would've Could've Should've, Me, I Hate It Here, Guilty As Sin? Anti Hero, Snow On The Beach, We Are Never Getting Back Together or maybe even So Long, London. I'm sure Ryan will report back to listeners and say that it was a joy!!

Another Paul McCartney reference and movies that bombed at the box office but are later accepted as classics. Referenced a Beatles movie but couldn't remember it's director and then went into spluttering engine mode. Another link destroyed and left in pieces on the floor at the top of the tower.

Of course he's going to Taylor Swift. If opening crisp packets became unmissable mass appeal moments, he would be photographed with bags of Tayto on the daily….

I really hope Tubs makes an appearance on stage at Russell Crowe's musical interlude in July, a bit like James Corden singing live with Cold Play. He could even belt out 'Nothing compares to you' - It's a little known fact that he was a great friend of Sinead O' Connor's of course.

He’s a week late - Taylor Swift played London last weekend

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,883 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

I can imagine him now Shane Ross like, dodging and weaving himself into any and every photo being taken of an actual celebrity at the gig….

but the best part would be if/when any of those photo's were published.. they'd be captioned "Gordon Ramsey & 'an enthusiastic fan'" at the Taylor Swift gig or

Ryan taking a well deserved rest next week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 744 ✭✭✭TheBMG

despite the fact he’s a washed up has been surviving on bread and water in some dodgy sink estate in South London (as some would have us believe here) he still seems to carry enough clout with Irish music promoters that he’s getting a freebie to the biggest gig of the Summer.

Maybe, just maybe Ryan is doing fine for himself.

Or maybe he dipped into his considerable savings and paid £1000 for a ticket, just so he had content to chat about on his radio show, and to be seen at the biggest concert event of the year?

I know for a fact that Swifts music wouldn't be his kind of music, well not on what he's been telling us for years anyway. So he's going to this concert as it'll be a photo op for InstaTubs, plain and simple.

"The one and only Vogue Williams"…thank goodness there's only one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 297 ✭✭nonetheless

I think Gordon would be going to see Taylor in her native land and I would be of the feeling that for Gordon, Tubridy (Who?) would be the last person he would wish to be snapped with for the press!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,517 ✭✭✭Tork

I have only ever seen Tubs's defenders going on about pot noodles and sink estates. Funny that…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,521 ✭✭✭jmcc

At least she has more of a connection to the UK than Tubridy and won't be rabbiting on about Dublin and Galway. Hope she does well. It might be a shock for Tubridy if she replaces him permanently.

    Regards…jmcc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 297 ✭✭nonetheless

It is highly unlikely Tubridy was handed any free tickets as its widely known that in fact even VIPs like Lottie, Doireann and most of Irish "media" weren't awarded any freebie tix - those halcyon days are long gone. Besides, we all know that people like Scott Williams and Dave Kelly keep rolls of the things in their top drawers! Tubridy can join the queue along with all the "other" local and regional radio presenters who eternally request such concessions in lieu of low wages.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 744 ✭✭✭TheBMG

He paid for his own tickets in the same way he was paying Virgin Radio for the exposure.

Lads, he’s on the guest list. He ain’t gonna be in the q (no pun intended) with the proles. Expect him to post cringe from the gig as he gets down to the sick beat of “Shake it Off”.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 744 ✭✭✭TheBMG

I know several radio/tv presenters who are guests of MCD this weekend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,916 ✭✭✭podgeandrodge

Who the fúk are Virgin targeting with this nonsense - surely not UK listeners?

Edit I see JMCC saying she has a UK connection. Can't stand her myself!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 593 ✭✭✭supereurope

She's married to reality show alumnus Spencer Matthews so she's fairly well known in the UK. She definitely has a higher profile there than Tubs did when he went over.

I wonder if Virgin might be treating this as a possible audition to replace Tubs?

Well then, much as I dislike her, I wish her the very best of luck in a potential replacement for Tubs!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,991 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

She won a Bear Grylls celebrity reality show on ITV. Was a few years ago now but she has way more credits / profile building events in the media than Tubs.

Didn't she also do Channel 4's ill-fated celebrity show The Jump?

And don't forget, she's related to William and Kate by marriage (Spencer's brother is married to Pippa Middleton.)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,521 ✭✭✭jmcc

It is also the end of Q2 2024 in a few days. It would be an interesting switch if Vogue Williams completely replaces Tubridy at Virgin Radio. She does have a UK media profile whereas Tubridy had none.

I was speaking with a friend earlier who was surprised Tubridy hadn’t scored a big tv gig in UK and the Derry Girls moment popped into my head.

Great chat show hosts usually cut their teeth in standup comedy. A quick wit and an ability to diffuse tension are essential on the stage and our friend Ryan is in such short supply of these skills that it effectively rules him out of ever being a successful light entertainment presenter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 297 ✭✭nonetheless

Just on any speculation regarding Vogue taking up his slot on Virgin/Q102, make no mistake Tubridy will be back after his 2 weeks holidays.

Apparently NewsUK CEO Rebekah Brooks is the woman who made PD Mike Cass cry with the news that Ryan Tubridy would be joining Virgin Radio UK, so the only identifier that will really determine Tubridy's fate are listenership figures.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,991 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

Has Rebekah (still can't spell Rebecca) Brooks not inflicted enough pain on the UK public… she gets around.

Although, I can only imagine the carnage had the Tubridy scandal broken at the BBC while she was at a tabloid…

With Gay Byrne, Pat Kenny and Patrick Kielty, the LLS was and is about the guests. The Tubridy LLS seemed to be more about Tubridy than the guests.

There was an incident where Gay Byrne rang a woman who had just won the LLS contest prize and it turned out that her daughter had sent in the entry and she had died a few days before. Gay Byrne handled it with tact, grace and empathy. There was a massive difference in talent between Gay Byrne and Tubridy.

The ‘why did she die?’ incident? He got there in the end but took him a minute.

yeah it's on youtube. Well handled by Gay Byrne and Tubridy would have made a monkey's arse out of it no doubt, but I feel like I've heard about how great Byrne handled it one too many times, equally valid would have been to say "I'm desperately sorry for your loss, this sort of thing shouldn't ever happen, everyone here wishes you and your family the best" and leave it at that instead of engaging her when there was no guarantee she would want that. A lot of people are very private you know.

I liked Gay Byrne, but he was only alright and nothing incredibly special as he's been made out, there are rumours of him having had a bad side also. There's a story that one of his neighbours invited him to a housewarming party and as a response he sent them back an invoice for his appearance!

I don't know if there's anyone Tub's could hand the reins to for his holiday break, that would make him look good by comparison, but Vogue isn't that person. She does have a natural charm and will probably connect with listeners far better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,190 ✭✭✭yagan

I don't get her thing, it's something like "girly woman, nice things, freshly washed baby's bum etc..", but she has an online brand that tubs doesn't.

It won't do her brand any harm.

    Wait, what?

Aside from Brooks being Tubs boss. What is the realtionship between the two?

Guys, it's a teeny weeny bit unfair to criticise Ryan for going to a Taylor Swift concert. Come on…

he has just made 2 references to Ireland, Irish people, Its odd that he presents as if he is still broadcasting to an Irish audience.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,831 ✭✭✭GSF

he doesn’t give a flying duck about the U.K. audience figures. Never has since day one and no sign of any adaptation to the audience. It’s what makes the whole Virgin deal so bizarre

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,517 ✭✭✭Tork

What's weirder is that nobody in Virgin seems to have taken him aside for a word. Aside from him being technically poor at his job, it's hard to see how any non Irish listener would want to tune in. It's like being told this is a club you're not welcome in. This is the sort of thing that could damage Virgin's audience figures significantly.

The other, more damning angle is that he is incapable of adjusting. That's particularly weird because most people instinctively adjust their conversations depending on who they're talking to. Was he as parochial as this when he was on RTE?
