Thanks for the info, much appreciated. I am kind of set on the Enyaq, it will be my first EV and I will be charging at home. I need the bigger car for 3 kids and all the storage I can get. I will try keep an eye out for an 80 then as you say it will be better in the long run.

I’m on the hunt for an 80 Sportline. Am I right in thinking I could have a chance of finding a 232/241 demo model or low mileage for less than 50k?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,956 ✭✭✭joe1303l

Doubtful, €52K+ maybe but 80 is now discontinued for the 85 so not many 80’s to choose from. Less than €50K would easily get you a 231 with average km’s

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 597 ✭✭✭space2ground1

Is the 85 the same model but with the new manufacturer battery? Just wondering is there an advantage to waiting for an 85.

Same battery but upgraded motor that’s more efficient, slightly better range & newer software etc.

Would you really pay that premium over an id4?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 597 ✭✭✭space2ground1

Bootspace is a big factor for us and I love the extras on the Enyaq sportline. Which ID4 spec do you think comes closest to that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,858 ✭✭✭poker--addict

ID4 feels a smaller car to me?

    😎

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,956 ✭✭✭joe1303l

Bootspace is the only difference in terms of space, it’s fractionally more efficient also due to the body shape/drag coefficient

ID4 is the backup plan anyway. I’d try and get a high spec 241 version (pro plus?) and get the tow hitch put on for a small camping trailer or bike rack.

How would the resident Enyaq experts here rate the value on this one?

Just seems to be a bit overpriced.

I would need to use the longer range on an Enyaq for maybe 3 weeks of the year and I’m really starting to wonder if a sportline 60 would be better for me to get it into the budget window.

Not enyaq related, but I've the bigger battery Etron 55 and I don't think I've ever done a journey that the 55 could handle that the shorter range, and a fair bit cheaper, 50 model couldn't handle also.

There's a small window of journeys where that would be the case. Either both cars will make it home with no public charge or neither will make it home based on my driving, yours may be different but decide if it's worth the extra outlay.

    Probably not.

Definitely seems too close to the price of a new one. Way more choice of used 60’s for sale but they obviously have a limited market. Don’t underestimate the drop in range during cold weather and/or motorway speeds. EV-Database.org will give relevant estimates of range for 60 & 80 in all circumstances.

I’m weighing up the very few times I would need the extended range compared to the cost of an 80 over a 60. I’ll hold fire for a while anyway but for €52k+ for an 80, I could get a 60 for 6-8k less. Thats a lot of coffee and fast charge on the motorway paid for on the few times a year I’d need it.

If you’re happy that it’s no hassle to manage with the smaller battery, go for it. Make sure to test drive a 60 first though if you haven’t already. They are heavy cars and as it has less power (-27bhp) than the 80 and way less than the 85.

I’ve noticed the Enyaq numbers falling online over the past couple of weeks. Murphy’s law! I wonder have I missed the burst of used cars from the 242 garage clear out. Hopefully good things come to those who wait.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,956 ✭✭✭joe1303l

They never sold in big numbers hence the lack of used choice. Before Skoda jacked up the prices, order backlogs from the factory killed sales until early 2023. By then Tesla and VW went slashing prices making Enyaqs overpriced and sale’s totally dried up. Current EV resale values aren’t encouraging existing Enyaq owners to trade them in either. Usedcarsni.com might be worth a look if you don’t have a car to trade in.

Unfortunately I do. An ID4 Pro Plus with a tow bar for a camping trailer is plan B. I’m looking for an EV with 77kwh battery and 550-600l boot capacity under 50k. Feels like the holy grail!

the ID4 is better value than the enyaq.

    Model y maybe?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 597 ✭✭✭space2ground1

I’d definitely go ID4 first. Best spec I assume for a family is the Pro Plus?

I have time on my side anyway.. I’ll hopefully grab an 80 sportline Enyaq with a sunroof. That’s the dream 😁 Dream big, budget small though 😆

You might be lucky. Myself I'd let The Krauts get through a couple more generations of EVs before giving them a try.

Have a 2 year old Enyaq 60 with 85,000 kms on it. Drove today from Ballincollig in Cork to Ionity Kill North in Naas leaving house with 100%. This is a distance of 233kms. Got to Ionity with 14% left and had cruise control set to 110km/hr all the way. Sunny day and about 18C. Normally would drive a little faster but wasnt in a hurry and wanted to test the car. Averaged 18.7kWh/100km as per dash readout. Car had charged overnight on Flogas .12c per kW on night rate. Works out at €5.98 for this trip or close to circa €25 per 1000 kms on motorway trips, even less with regional and city driving. Car still performing very well even with some obvious degradation in battery after 2 years. That's my tuppence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,676 ✭✭✭Buddy Bubs

Have you noticed degradation in 2 years?

I've 2 VAG cars, both 2 years old, cupra born which I reckon has exact same battery as you and an Etron which I would have thought was closely related.

Etron was bought used I only have it a few months but cupra is at about 35k KMs and I haven't noticed any loss in range from the day I bought it brand new

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,956 ✭✭✭joe1303l

Cheap motoring, shame the trade in values are so poor for what they cost new. Do you think you’ll keep it past 160K Km’s/battery warranty expiry ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 127 ✭✭Bannerman1969

I've noticed no degradation. Obviously the battery must have degraded some what but day to day no difference since new. That is why I drove so conservatly today from Cork just to check how that car was going. Very happy with it. No issues in 2 years bar the flap and wing mirror lights. Trade in values don't effect me as I'll hold onto it for a few years yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 127 ✭✭Bannerman1969

I will I think. Mileage is going up fast but the cost to change is very high. I put a deposit on the car in Nov 2021 and received it in July 22. Paid €38k new so they are gone up massively since then. Think I got great value Yeah, think I'll keep it and get full value from it.

Part exchange / deposit of €14,868 + (36x€709) =€40,392 with no final payment. Saving of €8,000 off rrp ???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,956 ✭✭✭joe1303l

Not quite. I think €5,231 of the “discount” is made up of the €3500 SEAI Grant and a VRT rebate. Hence the real discount is probably less than €3K. You do get 0% Finance which gives some added value if you have to borrow money to buy a new car. Spec seems improved on these now too based on the 85+ model quoted. The 85+ models have leather seats, matrix lights, electric tailgate and 20” alloys. Most buyers will want to add metallic paint at €776.

And probably a heat pump and glass roof, which adds the 4K back pretty quickly.

0% finance just on HP as well - may not suit everyone.

No value in heatpump at €1200 in terms of payback which is why virtually no customers add it. Pan roof is nice to have but it wouldn’t bother me not to have one. This current offer certainly brings the Enyaq closer to competing with its ID.4 cousin. Since the VW price cuts, there has been a huge gap between them to the detriment of 2024 EV sales.
