So how will they know if you’ve purchased the privilege to carry on your 10kg bag?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,287 ✭✭✭Yggr of Asgard

When you check-in it will show on your boarding pass so they could check at the gate if you forked over 9.99 for the privilege to carry a bag on if your fare/status does not include it.

I have two free flights via the Aerclub BOI Credit Card booked for 2nd July. I guess I might as well just check in the 10kg bags as well as the 20KG ones instead of bringing them to the gate right?

They seem to have no interest in policing this from what I can see.

Has anyone ever been able to cancel a BOI credit card flight and get the flights credited back to their account?

Recently had this problem, I asked for a flight (price/availability) on my vouchers, they sent me an itinerary and a price but it was so long that the hotel prices had risen and so I didn't want to take it.

When I tried for another set of dates they told me the flight voucher was used - after a lot of too and fro they would not back down, even though I did not pay for the flight nor was i given a simple price before they sent an itinerary they consider it used, no discussion.

In future I will ask for 2 flights just to ensure that they cannot book an itinerary!

I have used benefits with Aer Lingus down the years in the same way and, if I don't pay for the flight option (taxes etc) when they reverted then my entitlement carried on to be used in future.

Well, they want to implement this new priority boarding and hand bag policy over the next 2 weeks, so we will see if they will actually now restrict the priority lane to those who earned status or paid for Business/AerSpace.

I mean other Airlines (both low cost and main line) manage to do this, so surly a hybird like EI will be able to do something so simple (yeah, I know, I am still hopefull that all of this is a precursor to them joining OneWorld).

I don't think you can. IIRC correctly it's in the Ts & Cs that you can't change your mind / flights.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,280 ✭✭✭Rowley Birkin QC

Through a status-match promotion through my job, I'm now Platinum with KLM and Air France through Concierge status with Aer Lingus. I'm thinking about a trip to Japan / Australia in the new year. I also haven't been on an A380 yet and would like to have a go.

Any thoughts on KLM vs. Air France lounges / on board experiences / anything else I'm not considering?

    Thanks!

Thanks for the input. Just seeing now that AF retired all their A380s. If I went BA to Tokyo and give my AL frequent flyer number do I also get tier points or does it have to be a codeshare flight?

Any sign of status matching or shared benefits between BA and AL coming down the tracks?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,926 ✭✭✭pureza

It doesnt have to be a codeshare

    BA flights will credit

If you want to try the A380,you could do what I did last week and fly it on BA to Sin and then do a short regional to wherever

You can lounge hop at Sin between the BA,QR and QF lounges

Your business class ticket will give you access to the Qatar business lounge with a table service fine dining restaurant and copious quantities of Singapore slings

Placed an order with one retailer and received an email almost straightaway saying I've collected x amount of points, however placed a separate order with another retailer and I haven't received any email/points. I used the estore link and meet the terms and conditions outlined. Strange or can it take this long sometimes (over a week)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,287 ✭✭✭Yggr of Asgard

Some retailers are part of the "speedy awarding" program, and you get it within 5 days, while others can take up to 35 days. Travel purchases can taken even longer with month.

If you log on to your estore account and go on "pending transactions" you should see the transaction listed there.

If it's not there after a week, there is a form in the help center for missing avios, if you can find the transaction in the list there you can claim it that way. If the transaction is not on the list and you can't even find it in the "recent transactions" then it might not be tracked correctly. But it takes in my experience at least 1 week to show up in the missing avios form.

Thanks. I don't see it under pending transactions, just the other order that went through successfully. I'll give it another few days before contacting them.

I've booked a return flight to the States next month that consists of Aer Lingus flights to/from Newark and a United Airlines connection to Florida on the Aer Lingus booking. Do you know if I get tier credits for each of the 4 legs of the journey or are the connecting flights treated as one journey for tier credit purposes.

To the best of my knowledge, you may earn avios on united, the amount depending on ticket class but not tier credits

Others here may correct me on that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,179 ✭✭✭✭Stark

Yeah looking at their T&C's I think you're right unfortunately. Seems it's only BA operated flights where you've any chance of getting tier credits.

Another reason to choose Air France over KLM

Flew BA on Friday and tier points and Avios were credited to my AerClub account today - was sceptical of how it work but fair play.

Need to book a BA flight today from LCY to Glasgow. Do I just add my Aerclub number in the loyalty scheme window?

    Thanks!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,003 ✭✭✭Van.Bosch

yeah, that’s all I did although I booked through a corporate travel tool through work.

If you are a Revolut User you might want to check out RevPoints in the App, the RevPoints can be converted into EI Avios in a 1:1 rate.

Depending on your Revolut Plan you can earn from 1 Avios per 10 € up to 1 Avios per 1€ on the Ultra Plan.

However, if you are on a standard plan (free) you will need to enable a spare change rule which might not be wise as you actually purchase 50 Points per 1€. You will need to make very clear calculations there if it's worth it.

But if you are on a paid plan, check it out, it's a good way to earn some additional Avios.

Does anybody know if you get Tier Credits for flights operated by Privilege Style?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,926 ✭✭✭pureza

Can confirm, just transferred 1700 rev points to my BAEC account and it was instant, got 1700 avios

I'm on ultra, which imho pays for itself with a top of class multitrip travel insurance, free nord vpn (now also with a 5gb free esim of its own) ,the 3gb esim meaning 8 gigs outdide the eu free

    FT subscription and other things

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,287 ✭✭✭Yggr of Asgard

If you booked it as EI flight and then it turns out to be operated by Privilege Style you will get tier credits.

There are a few DUB-ACE-DUB flights in the next week or so where Privilege Style will jump in.

This works with Avios and just by using Revolut you can collect Rev points and convert them to Avois

If you are on ultra with them (which pays for itself imho),this is now the first decent avios earning card in the Republic of Ireland earning at 10 times the rate of the BoI aer club card

Its already been discussed upthread alright, and over on the Rev thread in the personal finance forum
