If it is just a leaf, remove it.

It’s the whole top of the plant unfortunately

There was a blight warning a few days ago.

I’ve put it outside and given everything a blight spray.

Toms are flying along now…looking back at my post just over 12 days ago there is massive growth, even getting my first flowers. This is my first year growing so all new but like @10-10-20 pointed out you have to keep on top of the side shoots, as from the second picture below it can be confusing at to what is the main leader…🤔

Nice one! They really have come along! How many plants have you?

My first lot of tomatoes that I planted have finally stopped sulking and are starting to fly along now. Side shoots galore already and some flowers on the piccolos. I got the wires done for the new bed this morning. I'll plant that last 9 plants this evening when the kids are home from school.

I have about 24-28 plants…maybe too much! but the plan is to make some tomato sauce and store it as much as possible. Thats why over half of them are St Marzano. Looking at them I might have them packed together maybe too tight but we will see. Everyday is a school day

Well I'll have 22 plants think 9/10 varieties, only 1 technically saucing one, although I'll throw whatever in when I get to that point. So your not the only one going mad 😆. I have 3 more to go in but I had to take a break, the heat in the greenhouse 🥵

like many of the plants I grew from seed this year, the tomatoes are small due to the lack of warmth and sunshine. Hopefully, the weather will be better from now on.

Mine were the same, although the first lot that were planted into the bed in the greenhouse have finally started to put on some healthy growth and starting to look nice and good. I have some flowers on my piccolos already

I got the rest of the toms into the new bed today and threw in the peppers/chillis/basil/cucumber while I was at it. I have to find a couple jalapeno plants coz my seeds never germinated this year and once I do and get them in the greenhouse is fully planted up for 2024! Nice feeling!

I’ve noticed this on a few leaves in mine. Amy ideas?

This hot weather is being them on great….starting to put on some toms already. This I think is Brandywine which is a beefsteak type. Some of the plants are 4 to 5 foot high now. Think I might have planted some too close together but we will see how we get on.

This is a San Marzano starting to fruit

    Hi all,

I've a few tomato plants outside, plenty of fruit on them but the leaves have started to die and it looks like lack of water. But when googling it, maybe overwatered?

    Any thoughts appreciated.

    Thanks

is the san marzano for making tomato sauce? I have heard this and Roma are good for sauce and plan to try for next year. Are yours imdoor or outdoor and are you getting a good yield?

Yeah, the San Marzano are for sauce... a lot more flesh in them, but to be honest, they almost seem dry! They are only now starting to come ripe and used a few today for a pasta sauce.

Here is a picture from this morning... the smaller ones are Sun Gold, then the San Marzanos are the pear-shaped ones, and then that big red monster is a Beefsteak!! Just waiting another day. As you can see, I have loads of fruit, but they seem to be slow to ripen, but this is my first year at it, so it might be normal.

I have them in a polycarbonate tunnel 10m x 4m, so a big enough one... I am using the no-dig method (just some compost on the bare ground) and I have not once fertilized my tomatoes but I seem to have plenty so its working out I think

Looks like a nice crop and how often do you water.

Leaves do eventually die of and need to be removed , photos can also help to see whats happening.

Eco mental, I don't think it's that slow considering the weather and lack of sunlight, even if there are days of some warmth. 2022 was the first growing year in my big greenhouse. I planted the toms out the last week of April and harvested my first tomato the 3rd week of July. This year the toms were planted out around the same time and I harvested my first few ripe fruits yesterday. Although the variety first harvested in 2022 haven't started to redden up yet. The ones yesterday were from new varieties this year.

Every few days (2-3 days), since they are planted into the ground and not in raised beds it reatains the moisture a lot better. I went away for 4 days last week and I gave them a good soak before I left and after I got back there was no issue they didnt look stressed at all.

Quick update…I am kinda over run with tomatoes at this stage..totally not prepared for the preserving of them and might have planted too much? might have planted too many of these cherry toms as well even though they are very nice and make great soup. I have a load more San Marzanos that will be ripening over the next few weeks hopfully. Looking at it I think I will have toms right into October.

Kinda of left my tunnel get out of control a bit over the past few weeks, got COVID so that laid me up for a week and then I went on a weeks holidays so its got a bit wild with side shoots everywhere and weeds... I am almost looking forward to cleaning the tunnel out and starting from scratch.
