He was miles past the ball, elbows on the ground. Penalty all day

JJ confirmed to have done his ACL in the Dragons game unfortunately…. Cian and Bucks also out this week.

    Terrible news for Jj :(

Deegan staying on with Leinster is great news for them, but for him you'd have to wonder what his motivation is; in the prime of his career, a player of his quality shouldn't be holding bags for big games and only getting runs against Zebre or babysitting on tours to South Africa. At this point you'd have to think more international honours won't coming his way and 2 caps is a paltry return.

Just goes to show how well run leinster is when they are an attractive enough place for him to stay there and not make the bench for the big occasions rather than start at any of the other provinces.

If a ten wasn’t an absolute must before JJ’s injured, then one surely is now.

Deegan despite his excellent youth profile isn't in the picture for international squads and it doesn't matter where he moves he's not got the physical game for it. Decent player but I think the game moved past his akillset to something more physical, he's not better than Coombes or Prendergast who can't get in.

Long past time to go shopping for a 10

Harry Byrne would seem to make a lot of sense, whether he'd go for it or not though…

Makes the pathway for Sam Prendergast more linear at Leinster too.

Can't see Harry Byrne moving. He's getting plenty of game time (when fit) at Leinster and is in Irish teams. I just can't see what Connacht can offer him.

The promise of lots of first team rugby, and the chance to really nail down a 10 shirt, might appeal more to Sam Prendergast or Frawley, though the fact that both of them were in Irish teams/squads this year dilutes that appeal too a bit.

I would absolutely love if Frawley or Harry Byrne moved west but as said they both are getting good minutes at the moment. Would they get more in Connacht? Yes. I'd say Tector is realistic or maybe some southern hemisphere guy we have never heard of.

JUst read the squad update and Wilkins mentioned Tom Daly and Sean Naughton as possibilities to cover. Daly never really let the team down covering 10. He rates Naughton but is very inexperienced.

Ben Murphy - scrum half, and Temi Lasisi - prop.

    Both joining from Leinster

Haven't seen a huge amount of Lasisi for Leinster, but I've watched him a few times for Lansdowne and he's very athletic and works very hard. Keen to see if you guys try to keep him at THP or flip him back to LHP.

I think Ben Murphy is a super signing for Connacht and will do very well there.

I wonder where they see Murphy fitting in with Blade, Reilly & Devine already in the squad

Reading Wilkins' comments, it seems he may cover both rather than having 4 options for each side of the scrum. Also pretty much confirmed Burke and DRM are leaving, which isn't a surprise.

Murphy is a bit of an odd one as it leaves our depth chart at scrumhalf skewing a little bit young, but certainly not going to complain about signing any player of his quality. I wonder if we're going to essentially give up on Reilly and focus on developing Devine and Murphy. Harsh but unfortunately he isn't particularly young (by comparison) and doesn't have much experience either. He was unfortunate in that Marmion and Blade were in situ for his formative years and he wasn't given many minutes when he really needed them.

I haven't seen enough of Reilly to really have a view on him, but do think Murphy is a clever player with a pretty snappy pass. I love the looks of Devine - really hope he keeps on the trajectory he's shown so far as he could well be a medium term solution for Ireland.

That's really interesting on Lasisi potentially being asked to cover both sides of the scrum.

Murphy is an impressive signing from what I've seen of him. It's a pity for McDonald Id imagine he'll move on. I thought he'd done OK but Murphy is an upgrade.

Again though I'm not sure of the necessity of this signing for a couple of reasons. I guess it was probably wrapped up before they gave Devine a chance to show what he could do but part of the reason given why marmion was moved on was to create a pathway. If that's going to be filled in by external players that is frustrating. Murphy will do well for us but ultimately his end goal is to return to leinster. Devine could be our scrum half for 10 years possibly and if we aren't going to give him a proper chance to push on it's detrimental for the provinces future and the whole grass roots to green shirts philosophy.

Players moving between provinces is inevitable and makes sense for us and Leinster in most cases but where local players have demonstrated the ability to step up they should be backed rather than it being a trial run for a player returning to leinster.

Lasisi makes sense. Prop is an obvious area of concern in terms of depth so if Lasisi can offer us an option on both sides that's great but with little senior experience I'd expect it'll be year 2 or 3 before we can judge him.

I think Murphy has a very high ceiling, no problem with having him and Devine competing.

Two very average players sign for Connacht. That should have been the headline. Just what we need. And as for Harry Byrne signing for Connacht, well that would just have been another average player signing for Connacht

Reilly and McDonald will leave at the end of the season.

Why Leinster let such a high ceiling player (Murphy) go?

What are the props likely to be next season?:

LhP: Buckley, Dooley, Duggan, Ward, Michel,

They have Fiachna Barrett at THP in the Academy too, and have just signed Temi Lasisi from Leinster.

That's not a bad team considering.

Quite early for a team announcement too, I wonder if there are more signings coming today?

Oisin Michel in the academy too. Ward will likely be let go.

Was it not announced at midday as per usual? I like the team a lot, especially that we're giving Devine and Jennings the opportunity, while surrounding them with experience.
