It's just one interview. It's competency based, but you're going for an ICT role so your better examples should ideally relate to ICT situations. One of the competencies is 'specialist knowledge and expertise' so do expect some technical questions!

By the way, perhaps any idea what sort of questions these may be? I have industry experience, just nothing with Cyber.

I'm assuming your typical networking/security based questions is the best I can anticipate really :p

I'm currently under consideration for the Digital Business Engagement position in Dublin. Could you please provide details on the general responsibilities, work-from-home policies, and any additional information about the role?

@Ray666 my role is a mix of business analysis/requirements gathering and software testing. On site 2 days per week, WFH 3 days per week. WFH policies can vary by department, from 2 to 4 days at home.

    Hi All,

I had the interview for the EO position and haven't heard back. The interview was held at the end of Feb. Anyone heard back after the interviews.

    Appreciate the help.

    Many thanks.

The end of Feb? Ah, it will take a bit longer to hear. You should get an email alert through the public jobs website.

Hi, I have been placed in the CSO with this competition and I'm just wondering if anyone else has been placed with them? Just looking for info on the actual job and location? Any help at all is appreciated!

The CSO's main offices are in Cork, with another in Dublin (Rathmines).

When is the money (including lost growth) Michael Noonan took in the Pension Levy going to be paid back?

    Hi all,

Just jumped on this to see if anyone has any info on the Networks & Cybersecurity ICT section in the civil service?

What kind of work is involved and anyone know the departments who are most likely hire the cybersecurity candidates?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,037 ✭✭✭TaurenDruid

Hopefully, at this stage, all of them!

As to the work involved, that will depend on the employer. Some are more reliant on central services or outsourced services than others, so it could be anything and everything, from liaising with third parties' SIEM services, to server and appliance hardening, pushing out security solutions and AV to end users, patching, admin of enterprise security systems, loads more, and/or all of the above.

Hi everyone! My partner just had an interview for the ICT Specialist (EO) role that closed in March. Does anyone know what the latest interviewing stages are? Would there be a technical test next, a second interview etc?

Is there anyone else here who interviewed in this round?

Any info would be great, thanks!

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,037 ✭✭✭TaurenDruid

If it's like previous such competitions, then no tech test or second interviews. The interviews are pass/fail, essentially, and those who pass will go on to a panel based on interview scores. As vacancies arise, people will be advised and the vetting and/or security clearance process will kick off, along with checks of references.

was this for the applications closing end of April ? Was interview in person ? Any tricky questions ?

Hi, I got an OOM for this role in the low 20s today after a successful qualifying interview a couple of weeks ago. I mentioned in the interview that, regretfully, it would not be feasible for me to move out of Cork to Dublin again (though I got my first break in IT there) due to family ties.

My understanding is I may get an EOI from a Gov Dept interested. Following my acceptance, an interview is arranged and I may then get a request for Garda vetting if I am suitable. Is that the correct sequence? Any point in getting vetting out of the way now, to limit the upheaval during the summer if I am on vacation? I read the timelines are short....

    Thanks a mil

There is no additional interview (as far as I'm aware) - if you're on the panel, that's it. In fact, in my experience, getting info from PAS on the appointee's skills and experience is like trying to get blood from a stone! Departments/organisations don't get to flag EOIs unless they had people doing the interviewing or had staff being interviewed. They just get the next person on the panel, but could instead hold out for Bob or Jane who performed really well in the interview done by Mary from their ICT Unit, if that makes sense.

The Garda vetting from your end just consists of filling in a form and mailing it to a garda email address. No harm asking PAS if you can get the form now and send it off, but the danger is if it's too "old" you may need to do it again anyway.

I don't know how it works with staying on the panel if you're offered a position in Dublin and refuse in favour of Cork - that will be some arcane PAS regulation - maybe someone else can throw some light on that.

Thanks TaurenDruid. I'll take the "met the qualifying standard at interview" news with a grain of salt then. At least it wasn't an outright rejection I guess. :-/ All the best!

And Swords in Dublin afaik, with the Census being run out that office.

No tricky questions, questions were based on your CV & experiences..it was a zoom interview

Is everyone here discussing the Networks & Cybersecurity panel or was there another competition on recently?

I'm in the 50s - 60s myself for Networks, so I'm confused how the rest may still be having interviews months after an being placed. Must be another stream.

Apart from that, just hoping to get the call this year.. 😅

I previously turned down a Dublin position and was kept on the panel for vacancies outside of Dublin. I clarified this with PAS before I turned down the Dublin offer.

@chancer007 can you let us know here when you are contacted for a position? My bf got in the teens in the panel and wondering how long it would take to get to him. Hoping that because it is not for a specific department that it won't take too long
