Anyone interviewing for the EO Software development stream in the coming weeks?

  • Registered Users Posts: 72 ✭✭One_Armed_Dwarf

I have an interview in the Networks and Cyber Security stream in a few weeks. Has anyone interviewed for this stream?

Just wondering if it is mainly technical or EO level questions or a mix of both? The message I received on public jobs states that this is the main interview, so that would suggest there is no further rounds of interview?

Latest EO Software Stream interview results released today.

Is the order of merit based on all candidates who applied in the country or based on all the candidates that applied in a particular county?

    Anyone know?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4 niallo67

I'd assume the oom is the country as there was no county listed in the interview results, but unsure. I can't remember if the application asked for a location preference, it said on the spec that most jobs would become available in the Dubin area. I wonder what are the chances of being placed in the west of Ireland? Does anyone no if this panel is only to fill positions within An Garda Siochana or could you be offered something in other organizations?

If you're interested in going to AGS they have some sort of cyber forensics, cyber security EO job up now on www.publicjobs.ie

I'd say it's multiple depts if it was AGS only they would have advertised it that way. Also every dept in Dublin is crying out for IT staff so I imagine that they'll want to take from the panel. No idea with the west. You'd probably be better going for mobility if you need to move west as they didnt say the counties.

Does anyone know how many software dev positions will be available in this current panel, and is OOM 34 is good enough to be considered for the next stage?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5 asteroidunderground

It all depends on how many positions are available really, it can be a bit of a lottery. I’m on the panel (top 10) for this current panel too. Does anyone happen to know what departments you could be assigned to or are you given a choice?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,934 ✭✭✭Daith

You're not given a choice. It's whatever department asks for someone from the panel and whatever position you're in or if people higher than you refuse or don't take up an offer.

I have an upcoming Zoom interview for the ‘Networks and Cyber Security ICT Specialist Competition’ on April 6th. There has already been 4 days of interviews on March 16th, 23rd, 24th & 28th so I'm just wondering if anyone has done the interview recently and how they found it?

I’m wondering has anyone been contacted on the most recent panel regarding the ICT Software Development stream? I’ve yet to have hear anything myself.

Has anyone from the Dublin Stream had their start date yet?

Did anyone get any correspondence from PAS?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4 niallo67

Yes, I received an offer for a position based in Dublin a few weeks back. I am based in Galway so I declined.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5 Winsvins

Any idea till what OOM it has been processed/offered?

  • Registered Users Posts: 165 ✭✭jimjangles

Hey I'm in the 30s order of merit EO Software Developer stream. Got the email asking for documentation. Told me what department etc in the email. I don't know how long vetting and all that takes. They say in the email that it isn't an actual offer and depends on documentation. Anyway fingers crossed. Hope that's some help to people anyway. I suppose it might depend on location etc. aswell.

Hi, have interview coming up for Ict operations and infrastructure. Anyone gone through this, would love to hear what kind of questions asked in the interview and how is the job going? What's the day to day like? Cheers.

The day to day will really depend on what department. It can really vary.

Anyone interviewing for the Software Developer – ICT Specialist at Executive Officer Level in the Civil Service in the coming week/s?

I have interview late next week and just wondering about the format (e.g. how long is it?)

From reading the info booklet and old posts in this thread seems like it will be competency based questions (rather than technical) and possibly 30 - 40mins?

The booklet also says "Although the majority of vacancies arising over the lifetime of the panel will be located in the wider Dublin

area, a limited number of vacancies may also arise in some regional locations". Does anyone know if there are vacancies in Cork?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5 asteroidunderground

I had an interview in February for the January competition for the same role pretty much (Haven’t actually started said role mind you) The interview if I can recall is around 30 minutes, mostly focused around competency based questions (Google S.T.A.R method). The answers ideally need to be structured/approached in this way. There were a couple technical questions also towards the end. In regards to vacancies outside Dublin, I wouldn’t be too sure myself nor would I imagine most people here. It’s kind of a lottery nearly it seems.

What kind of technical questions do they ask? Could you give an example?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5 Winsvins

It depends what you had included in the questions prior to the interview..I mentioned I had done a project of developing a webpage. So the technical questions were asked around that.

    1)what all tools were used?

2)was anything used to make the webpage scalable for all devices?and how?

3)what type of testing was done?

    Etc

Be well versed with the projects you did..in short

Anyone any ideas when we might hear back?

  • Registered Users Posts: 110 ✭✭jozywales

    Hi codingbish,

I was wondering the same thing myself. Had my interview on 4th Aug but haven't heard anything since.

I just sent an email to them asking when we might hear back. I'll let you know if they reply.

They replied: "Unfortunately, at this moment in time, we do not have a specific date of when results will be issued to candidates however keep an eye on your public jobs message board as they will be sent there in due course.

Yes, candidates will be placed on an Order of Merit and any location queriers would be dealt with at the clearance stage."
