She’s the final nail in Labour’s coffin. Doubt they’ll get one seat in the next election.

Shane going on and on about our "international obligations", no we don't have to take in every waif and stray because we can't look after them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 7,749 ✭✭✭Allinall

    Not what he said.

He is correct. We do have international obligations.

A tent on the street in driving rain is a real improvement in their circumstances..

Andrea Gilligan with a travel expert on advertising bargain staycation deals. Highly irresponsible promoting a hotel in Mayo as a great location for families. For those unaware the the Breaffy resort has been used to house refugees and economic migrants. Not where you would like to relax for the Easter break.

Anyway the cat is out of the bag, loads of availability in Ireland over Easter but very little abroad. Basically majority of people have little interest in holidaying in Ireland anymore. Go abroad, at least you have a chance with the weather and not getting ripped off either.. This is only the beginning for Irish hospitality, reap what you sew.

Afraid you’ll catch TB off the ‘Fugees?

    Or is that badgers?

The Labour party are by no means representative of a left-leaning viewpoint.

More than that, they are electorally irrelevant. Their two most prominent (i.e. loudest) representatives, Ms Bacik and "A Yawn" O'Riordan are extremely likely to lose their seats in the upcoming GE.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,232 ✭✭✭hamburgham

Correct. They represent the public sector, the most cosseted group of workers in the country.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61 ✭✭Ralph_GM

Anyone who uses the international obligations line should think very carefully what they are actually saying.

Saying we HAVE to accept everyone is essentially saying we no longer have control over our borders. This is going to lead to anti EU sentiment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,232 ✭✭✭✭whisky_galore

I don't think Labour represent anyone but chasing the same sort of people as FG and Greens, i.e. well-off, urban, "progressive" types.

You're free to apply for a public sector job if it's so cushy.

    They are cushy.

I have family members in them and they're always telling me they do nothing. Promotions every 2nd year or sooner too it seems. 'the higher you go, the less you do' is what they say.

Another pal of mine joined the civil service. First thing he was told is if you want to ask questions, go to the persons desk. Don't send it through emails. I assume this is to do with freedom of information. Flexitime on top of I think their 30 days holidays.

'Free to apply' is a weak line. I could join the civil service, though the quality of worker is generally poor. Anyone not good enough to progress in private sector is desperate to get in the public service. Another lad I know, pricking about with horses for years, not sure how he was trying to make money. Joins the guards and is on the pigs back, no pun intended.

Same sh1te that jealous people use about teachers and other jobs they wouldn't dream of doing themselves.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61 ✭✭Ralph_GM

I'd 100% be a teacher if I knew back then what I know now.

Teachers are put on a pedestal. All we hear is "teachers have it so hard". Should have listened to my teacher relation talking to a family friend who wanted to move into teaching.

Friend: 'Yeah I plan on taking lessons in irish and doing the exams. Is teaching as bad as they say it is, all evening correcting homework and doing up plans?"

Teacher: 'No, you put in as much work as you want. If you want, you can leave school at 3. It's up to you if you want to spend your evenings doing it. All your plans are done once and then you're just taking them from that each year'

The same teacher then is saying how tough and long hours teaching is whenever unions or teachers get criticised.

Everyone is NOT accepted asylum can be refused and people can and are deported.

As for the "anti-EU sentiment" that only draws out people who were gombeens to begin with. Without the EU Ireland would be in serious trouble. Soft power in the EU is one of the few strengths Ireland has geopolitically. And anyone who does not see that well they have a clear agenda, that the "EU" is used as lightening rod for.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

'Without the EU, Ireland would be in serious trouble'

You're acting like there's not tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of people already living horrible lives. They are already in 'serious trouble'

The ones who talk of this 'serious trouble' are lads working for MNCs on big money in their own houses. Ireland is a great country if you work for a MNC and own a house. Otherwise, it's ****.

What is the story with the random celeb gossip/entertainment slot that appears to be thrown in throughout the day recently?

Sounds like a slightly toned down bit off Spin fm.

I was wondering about that myself. I heard it this morning during a break in the Pat Kenny show

It's actually pretty much the same as that thing they throw in on movies on ITV4. I think it's called FYI or something.

Ha, yeah, FYI Daily. Quite irritating wedged in the middle of movies.

Anton shoving it on to Jack Chambers re road safety.

I'm sure some of the too cool for school anti hi vis set will be grinding their teeth at the recommendation to wear so-called "builders vests" in low light and darkness.

Had the misfortune to switch on Newstalk just now and have listened to a Radio drama for the last 20 minutes. It's so bad I can't turn it off....

    What is this?

Funded by the Broadcasting Commission from the tv licence it said at the end. It was absolute steaming poop.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,232 ✭✭✭✭whisky_galore

BH monday filler, along with all the "Best Of" shows.

Ciara making excuses for dumb parents giving their kids smartphones, "they're not digital natives" come off it. Anyone born from 80s onwards is well able to use a smartphone and likely a laptop or pc as well.

Say it as it is, they're stupid, lazy and want to be their kid's friends, not their actual parents. But yeah give your kid a smartphone that gives access to nonces and porn because you want them to shut up, top parenting.

Jokers had a nice extra long weekend with their day off on Good Friday.

Fantastic gig for them, when you factor in the twenty minutes of advertising in every hour of broadcasting on Newstalk the amount of work these presenters actually do is minuscule.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,021 ✭✭✭Random sample

Ciara kelly mentioned in an interview with anton Savage that she is self employed. Are all newstalk presenters on self employed contracts? It seems off to me.

I would say it's normal in that business. They might want to drop them or change their slots.
