Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

"how early is too early for newstalk to run items about how early is too early for christmas stuff in shops" - today on lunchtime live!

"There are shops dotted around the country that sells chrustmas decorations all year Andrea!"

"Kids want things that costs hundreds of euros Andrea so we have to start early Andrea!"

"next week on lunchtime live, the scourge of moneylenders preying on people at Christmas time as parents are hard pressed to find the toys for their children"

    Every bloody year.

Andrea coming up complaining about the Gardai driving 40ft trucks to catch drivers on their mobile phones, I’m out!

They seem to have more luck with calls from foreign climes as opposed to calls from just down the road that drop like flies.

Facepalm. No wonder journalism is the state it is.

The meme - "you had one job" - springs to mind

08.48 ad break. Back from ads at 08.53. Then at 08.55 "that's our lot for today" cue five minutes of ads before the news at 09.00.

Final twelve minutes of the show consists of barely two minutes of content and a whopping ten minutes of ads.

Absolutely dreadful station at this stage.

    Glazers Out!

Off The Ball does that all the time. Sometimes they play the outro song for ages to fill the time. Infuriating.

I get that they need ad revenue to make the business work but Newstalk has always been the worst for this type of stuff over the years, nowadays it seems that an hour of broadcasting time on the station is getting close to featuring 50% advertising.

    Glazers Out!

Yeah the last 15 mins of the show is regularly 9-10 mins of ads

God almighty, digging up the "rewatching Friends" thing again. Ffs thought this was over and done with a year or two ago.

Oh, a journalist who doesn't like Oasis talking about how much they don't like Oasis.

I don't like Coldplay, but other people are entitled to like them and go to their gigs.

    Glazers Out!

Apart from Pat Kenny's show, is Newstalk now just the aural equivalent of the red tops? It even has the red branding! Pure clickbait/ragebait nonsense omnipresent throughout a lot of their shows.

It's really deteriorated over the last few years. Pat Kenny is the only presenter on the station with any sort of profile, the rest of them could be swapped out at any point and the listener wouldn't know the difference.

Moncrieff is the only original presenter left but he's long since become an insufferable bore who has at no point in his two decades come close to touching Livelines audience share.

Off the ball is a poor imitation of what it was before the original crew jumped ship, their Friday night quiz is car crash radio and the idea that anyone would pay a subscription to listen to their exclusive content is risible.

    Glazers Out!

Moncrieff I used to enjoy as a break from the merry go round of depressing current affairs but seems to have had a influx of more filler fluff items in the last few months, esp the intro with Henry "what do people think about things" vox popping.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,975 ✭✭✭leath_dub

Moncrieff wasn't part of the original lineup either. He replaced an existing afternoon show, hosted by Dyane Connor and some guy whose name I can't remember

I think the red top thing is a pretty solid observation. I think there was a very self aware shift a while back from Newstalk towards the social media "bit".

Every morning now I seems, without fail, Shane Colman or Dr Ciara give an "against the grain", calling a spade a spade opinion that is only stated to rattle the texter cages and get X/Instagram clicks.

according to their weird advert, they are your friend. The insane one you cant get away from perhaps.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,079 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

andrea gilligan has informed Pat it's 'love donegal day' today. Anyone mad enough to listen to her normally, would really want their head examined to listen today

Newstalk vox pops have been all downhill since that woman farted into the microphone when she was asked what she thought of Eamon Dunphy the guts of 20 years ago.

    Glazers Out!

    did she make that up?

When is "love Limerick day" love Louth Day" love Monaghan Day, love Cavan Day"????

Simon's on a loser here trying to defend the Dail hut and shelter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,008 ✭✭✭ShagNastii

The silliest take I've heard in a long time. Simon's contribution is generally decent enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,569 ✭✭✭✭whisky_galore

Not the greatest fan of Karl Dieter but he is absolutely spot on calling out the pathetic learned helplessness of those responsible for overspends. Ah shur tis grand culture.

yep and Kieran Cuddihy made an attempt to push back on that blaming "Covid, the Ukraine War, the cost of living crisis" yada yada yada. To which Karl Dieter immediately came back and called it for what it was, pathethic bullshit. If I hear the words Covid, Ukraine war and cost of living crisis again as an excuse for gross incompetence I'll scream! Along with "lessons will be learnt"…………they're driving the hard pressed taxpayer insane at this stage.

Does anyone get a very sinister and creepy impression from their "we're that friend" ad? It reminds me of the anti-smoking ad on tv where the fags are your man's mate who won't leave him alone and starts banging on the window

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,569 ✭✭✭✭whisky_galore

Breakfast announced earlier there were going to have a TD on who is against speed cameras. No surprises it's the bould Healy Rae yet again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,471 ✭✭✭✭kneemos

Obsessed with that lad. He gets way too much air time to play to the gallery.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,404 ✭✭✭Patrick2010

Any chance Ciara could let John Duggan do the sports news without needing to keep interrupting with her "clever" puns.

She's shockingly bad. She just cannot keep her mouth shut at all. Same when interviewing someone, she just keeps cutting across them.

She's horrendous with the stutter thing that she does when interviewing as well...."Do do do do we n n n n n need to to to"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,975 ✭✭✭leath_dub

On Newstalk Breakfast today: "Sweden are considering criminalising begging - is that something we should do in Ireland?"

That's Andrea Gilligan's show sorted for today then
