Your original one, or the resubmitted one you mentioned this morning?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,691 ✭✭✭michellie

I got two emails this evening, but there was nothing there when I logged on, just the original SOL from this morning, the resubmitted SOL hasn't come through yet, I'm just assuming it takes another 10 days

My SOL was in my ROS account on Tues. Got the e mail at 5pm today. Not sure if the email has anything to do with when the payment arrives not holding my breath it says 3 to 5 working days which could lean into next week.

If you submit your claim including a copy of the Medical Insurance renewal through a My Enquiries a caseworker will update your revenue record to include the correct Medical Insurance Relief on your record to resolve this issue for you - you shouldn’t have to do this but I can’t think of any other resolution to your issue

Was anyone claiming for the €750 rent tax credit? Got my SOL email this evening and there's a refund due for an overpayment but it's not for 750 and it shows as 500 for Rent Tax credit on the letter? Do we reckon this will e a separate payment or does it not come into affect till next year's SOL?

Have a lot riding on this 750 so I'll definitely e chasing it up if I don't get it but is anyone else in the same boat?

It’s not €750 till next year. You claimed for 2023 which is still €500 unfortunately

The max Rent Tax Credit for 2022 & 2023 for a single person was €500, the government announced an increase to the Rent Tax Credit for 2024 in the max amount of €750 for a single person.

2023 was €500 so if you're only applying now you'll get the €500 lump sum for last year. If you apply for the €750 now it'll appear as a tax credit split over each month, or if you wait until January 2025 you can claim as a lump sum for the €750.

You can’t (or shouldn’t) claim the max relief of €750 until you have a minimum of €3,750 in rent paid - you cannot claim tax relief for an expense you haven’t yet incurred.

Apologies, yes. The rent would need to be paid first, what I should've written was after the rent is paid you can claim and it will be applied as a tax credit for the remainder of 2024, or you can wait for January 2025 and claim it as a lump sum.

Hi all, wondering if anyone has any experience with a similar situation or any idea why it might have occurred. I viewed my preliminary SOL on Jan 1st and it stated that I overpaid by €350. Did my tax return, just confirmed what Rev already had on record, didn’t claim anything else or change anything. Got my SOL back today and it says I’ve UNDERPAID by 9 cent. I understand the preliminary SOL is not the final figure but I’m confused as to how they could be so different? And of course now I can’t review my prelim SOL as I no longer have access to it.

I did the return on the first for a number of people. 2 said there was an overpayment of 200 and 700 and both just received their 500 rent credit. One person where nothing was stated had an underpayment of 1200 so instead of getting the 500 rent credit ended up owing 700. So basically the preliminary seems to have meant nothing!

I had maternity benefit and illness benefits payments in 2023 so was waiting until 15th to see my preliminary end of year statement but oddly my husband can see it already. We are jointly assessed and all my benefits are there all correct from dep social welfare in the statement. He has the option to view it and complete income tax return but I’m still getting message to say I can’t until the 15th

How do I declare CGT? I have put it in as additional income on my return.

I have already paid the tax through the ROS last year but I'm sure Revenue would like to see where I came up with the calculation?

Still no SOL there for me, submitted the 2nd.

I'm guessing I may fall into the category that GSBellew mentioned, where my employer hasn’t yet confirmed the 2023 tax figures (unless there’s another issue).

I guess I’ll wait patiently until next week at this stage!

Right think I've made a balls up.

This time last year I received the 500 rent credit into my account.

    This year I've.

-gone into manage tax 2024 and applied for tax credit of 750(which I believe will be spread across the next 12 months and ad 60 odd to my pay checks each month rather than receiving lump sum next year)

-I've applied for tax return....Still waiting on sol....no rush on this...

My question? .....can I still apply for the 500 for the year just gone in a lump sum??

If you didn’t add it as a credit earlier this year then yes you can.

What section? I can't seem to see the option anymore

I believe you’ll need to wait for your SOL and then you can amend your tax return.

Do I have to amend the 2024 750 one to 500 for 2023?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25 spurs1988

Hi. I did my tax return for a number of people I work with on the 1st. They have all received the SOls yesterday. I haven't got anything yet so that would rule out the previous comment of having to wait for company to send in there end of year files. Just wondering did anyone fill out on the 1st and still no receive anything? Thanks again for any feedback

When you go online you'll see an option for "manage your tax 2020 to 2023" or something very similar. Just below the option "manage your tax 2024".

Click on that and for 2023 click on amend. You can add your rent tax credit for 2023 if you haven't already added it. You'll get a new statement of liability showing the new balance either over or underpaid for the year.

When you enter the amount you pay in rent the amount of tax relief due for that year will automatically calculate. For 2023 it'll be 20% up to the max which is 500. For 2024 it'll be 20% up to the Max of 750.

That's only to amend my tax return .....not the rent credit

The rent credit is part of your tax return.

If you haven't claimed it for 2023 you can enter it now by amending your tax for 2023 and adding the rent tax credit.

If you have already claimed it then the amount for 2023 would be capped at 500 no matter what figure you had entered as rent paid so you don't need to change it.

If you are trying to amend it and the system won't allow you to change it you will need to wait until your statement of liability has been issued and then go back in and amend your tax for 2023.

If you go into your tax return submitted for 2023 you should be able to see the amount you have submitted and the max tax credit allowed or add it if it's not already there.
