Have just signed on to Jobseekers Benefit. What other extras can I get?

Unfortunately most of the additional benefits are not payable to folks like you, who contributed to the system and lost their jobs. To get most payments (eg christmas bonus) you have to be on long term, not contribution based payments, like JSA.

Should be able to get some tax back - probably not too much if you were only recently unemployed

You get nothing extra, being a Benefit payment your getting a little back from your contributions.

There are No allowances paid with Jobseekers Benefit that I'm aware of, I suspect OP being facetious

You can apply for tax back, as you were being taxed on the basis that you would work 12 months of the year.

Jokers aside,the real shame in the system is that the longer you're on it and the less you have worked, the more you get.

For some 100,000 people it's a bona fide career choice.

Yes but it may not be much. The longer you wait, the higher it goes.

Your tax credits will keep accumulating till the end of the year. Wait till the new year to claim it back.
