The spell was supposed to break down over the weekend but we somehow managed to squirm out of it for now. The 1st-2nd had wall-to-wall sunshine, the 3rd-5th cloudier but still plentiful sunshine, the 6th was cloudy but there was a surprise snowfall at night (was expecting showery rain) which was a fair trade-off and made it more enjoyable to sit in an outdoor hot pool, and almost unbroken sunshine again from the 7th until today, with today being particularly nice with no clouds. The first picture shows pink skies over a mostly frozen lake on Saturday, reminiscent of December 2022. It was a lot more vibrant than the picture suggests. The second picture is the northern lights overhead last night even with plenty of light pollution. I was unfortunately too busy to go to a darker spot where it would've been even better. The rest are from today.

Seen lightening in the distance in Oranmore, no rumbles as yet.

There is now 86.7mm in Sligo in November. Valentia and Newport are closing in on us around 70 or 80mm. With the weekend mainly dry here it may be next week before we breach 100mm.

There is a few brief dry spells now during the rest of November and perhaps a frosty one at the end.

Loving the updates from Iceland. Keep them coming.

I would like a good storm but with a southerly tracking jetstream it looks like any storms will just affect the southern half of the country or miss us completely. If we can't have a storm, a prolonged settled spell akin to what we has last December would be very welcome. With heights to the north east and a southerly tracking jetstream maybe we will get something colder eventually.

France and the South of England seem to be in the firing line with the current jet stream. One would think it may lead to a colder winter but who knows.

The trick is to always take your photos in landscape mode and never in portrait mode, if you intend to post your photo on Boards.

I have found that if you edit the original photo on your phone - even just a tiny change like crop off a tiny sliver at top/bottom/left/right - and re-save the photo, then it uploads the right way. No idea why.

    Lovely photo.

Much better brighter, calmer and drier day here in Kerry. Some local showers but a bit of a reprieve after the rough few days gone by. Very windy here for a time last night with big blustery showers of rain and hail. The place is squelching. Good dry day for most tomorrow until the next band of rain goes through overnight Saturday. After early rain Sunday looks to clear from SW, W as the day goes on.

Setting it right on the computer, clearing metadata (EXIF) and saving will do the same.

Ask and you shall receive, the northern lights tonight in Eastern Iceland. It was enjoyable viewing them and the starry sky while sitting in a hot bath. Unfortunately, I did not get too many photos because my phone shut down since the battery was low and it was -5C, not a good combination! Tomorrow's expected high is -2C, so it will be one of if not the coldest max temperature I've experienced (I missed almost all of the second cold spell in December 2010).

It was 4 degrees at the sidelines of the kids football match this morning, brrrr that was cold, even with the 50 layers, gloves and hat.

Very pleasant though later on when we were out walking.

So what are models looking like for the potential storm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,853 ✭✭✭.Donegal.

    Dense fog this evening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,153 ✭✭✭adocholiday

Still a big spread in the 12z runs but ECM and AROME going for orange level winds right across the country and isolated red level in places. GFS now showing some wind but nothing of note really. And the other models are going for varying strengths mostly affecting the SE and E. Looks a nasty system that moves through quite quickly.
