France-west newspaper reports a gust of 210kph on the Brittany coast, 1.2 million homes without power and numerous orders to stay at home. Only emergency services allowed due to road blockages

Sryan is the man for the stats but Met Eireann says the lowest pressure we've ever had was 931.2 hPa in November 1838. Lowest in recent memory was 950 hPa in March 2008.

Probably wouldn't even have got a red warning if that hit us.

The highest amateur weather station I can find is this one (you may need to be an Ecowitt member to see it).

Its right on the coast near Brest.

Max sustained was 138kmh, with a max gust of 157kmh. Then the anemometer broke.

yes i was thinking the same myself, January 1990 the Brear storm i believe it was called at the time 916mbs (think i have the cutting from the indo in a diary somewhere!!) it blasted the outer Hebrides and an oil tanker that ran aground there had all its oil dispersed by the sheer ferocity of the wind.

On the Finistère we recorded a record on the episode and the station at 172 km/h in Ploudalmézeau.

Also a record for the Brest station with 155 km/h.

On the Côtes d'Armor, we recorded during the episode 158 km/h in Lannion (record of the station).

On the Manche department, 133 km/h were recorded in Sainte-Marie-du-Mont (record of the station) as well as 140 to 170 km/h on the capes and semaphores.

Brest population 2015 140k I can imagine damage is extensive there with 96mph gust.
